Jean C. Costa
OCEAN PINES - Jean C. Costa, 71, died Monday, March 15, 2004.
Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Helen Chessler. She is survived by her husband, Salvatore J. Costa; a daughter, Sandra J. Crea of Erie, Pa; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A surviving brother, Robert Chessler, lives in Charles County.
She and Mr. Costa moved here from Baltimore and made a home in Ocean Pines in 1982. An active member of the Exercise Club in Ocean Pines, Jean was also an avid reader and needleworker. She had assisted Harvey Lynch in his soft crab business at George Island Landing.

Ruth Virginia Townsend
NEWARK - Ruth Virginia Williams Townsend, 86, died Wednesday March 17, 2004 at the Snow Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with her loving daughter and sister at her side.
Born in Pittsville, she was the daughter of the late Isaac Samuel Williams and Cora May Hastings Williams.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer Bassett Townsend, in 1978 and a great-grandson Aaron Lee Hall in 2001. She is survived by a daughter, Joanne T. Hall and her husband Claude Hall of Snow Hill, and Douglas Lee Hall and his wife Stephanie of Snow Hill; three great-grandchildren, Sydney, Kelsey and Lauren Hall all of Snow Hill; and a sister, Hilda Williams Taylor of Salisbury.
Mrs. Townsend was a graduate of Pittsville High School in 1935 and a graduate of Peninsula General Hospital School of Nursing in 1939. She had worked as a registered nurse, school bus driver and had been the co-owner and operator with her husband of Townsend's Market in Newark.
She was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Church Women's Society and had been a caregiver to many friends and family throughout her years.

Edith Ellen Farlow Messick
HEBRON - Edith Ellen Farlow Messick, 79, died Saturday, March 13, 2004.
Born in Salisbury, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Edith Livingston Farlow.
Mrs. Messick was a graduate of Wicomico High School and Salisbury State Teachers College. On July 7, 1947 she married
Russell L. Messick. She was a member of the Springhill Post 237 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed substitute teaching for Wicomico County Schools for many years, gardening and doll and bear collecting. She will be sadly missed by her friends and family.
Mrs. Messick is survived by her husband of 56 years, Russell L. Messick; her children, Carmen L. Cantrell of Kentucky, Kent L. Messick and his wife Sarah of China, Troy L. Messick and his wife Sally Ann of Ocean City; her grandchildren, Ryan Cantrell and his wife Amy of North Carolina, Heather Cantrell of Kentucky and Bradley, Graham and Brice
Messick of Ocean City; great-grandchildren Tyler and Zachary; and several nieces and nephews.
She also leaves behind a special friend, Wayne Breeding, and faithful caregivers, Rosalie Chamberlin, Nikki Clark and Margaret Donald. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Lottie Farlow Agnew and Gertrude Farlow Hotten.
Interment was held at Springhill Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21802.
Leon Peter Wlazlowski
BERLIN - Leon Peter Wlazlowski, 68, died Saturday, March 20, 2004.
Born in New Jersey, he was the son of the late Z. Frank Wlazlowski and Pauline Teems Wlazlowski.
Mr. Wlazlowski was a firefighter for the Elizabeth Fire Department in New Jersey. He is survived by his loving wife, Maureen; a son Leo and his wife Liz of N.J.; three daughters, Kathy Collins and her husband Gary of North Carolina, Cyndi Roholff and her husband Gary of New Jersey, Ellen Sliwicki and her husband John of New Jersey; three brothers, Edward of California, Ronald and his wife Lynn of New Jersey. and Frankie of New Jersey; two sisters, Malvena Quinn of New Jersey and Clara and her husband Tom of New Jersey.; seven grandchildren, Valerie, Erica, Thomas, Sean, Garrett, Joseph and Stephanie; and a step-mother, Charlotte Wlazlowski.

Tony L. Karageorge
OCEAN CITY - Tony L. Karageorge, 85, died Friday, March 19, 2004.
Born in Richwood, VA., he was the son of the late Louis and Theodora Nicoladis Karageorge.
Mr. Karageorge had worked for Acco Cleaners in Baltimore for 17 years. He was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Ocean City, member of 32nd Degree Mason-Blue Lodge in Baltimore, Shriner-Boumi Temple Shrine and the Scottish Rite.
Mr. Karageorge is survived by his wife, Stamatia Karageorge; two sons, Louis Karageorge of Chester, Md. and John Karageorge of Ocean City; a daughter, Dori Eisenacher of Rosedale, Md.; and three grandchildren.
Interment was held at Maryland Veterans Cemetery.

Walter F. Myers Jr.
OCEAN PINES - Walter "Russ" F. Myers, Jr., 58, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Walter Franklin Myers, Sr. and Regina Stroble Myers. He is survived by his wife Geraldine Myers; two sons Michael Myers and Paul Myers, both of Bel Air, Md; two sisters, Margaret Seeback of Perry Hall, Md and Mary Frances Stone and her husband Russ of Forest Hill, Md.; an aunt and uncle Dolores and William Stroble; numerous nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog Murphy.
Mr. Myers had retired as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Towson. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Ocean City and was an avid fisherman and golfer.

Kathleen Theresa Spencer
OCEAN CITY - Kathleen Theresa Spencer, 73, died Friday, July 30, 2004 at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.
Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Charles Darrell and Catherine Foehrkolb Darrell. She was preceded in death by her husband George Alan Spencer in 1992.
She is survived by two sons, David Buono and his wife Marian of Hanover, Pa. and Frank Michael Buono, Sr. and his wife Sharon of Baltimore; two daughters, Kathleen Cecelia Faria of Alexandria, Va. and Deborah Ann Jones of Louisville, Ky.; seven grandchildren, David Buono, Jr, Michael Buono, Michelle Buono, Nicholas Faria, Brandon Jones, Frank Buono, Jr. and Tricia Brown; two great-grandchildren, Rachel Marie Buono and Chet Melvin Brown II; two brothers, Dr. John Darrell of Randallstown, Md. and Donald Darrell of Crofton, Md.; one niece; and three nephews.
Mrs. Spencer had been a jewelry salesperson at Liljenquist and Beckstead in Ocean City and had been a member of the Marlin Club.
Interment was held in Sunset Memorial Park in Berlin.
Evelyn Jane Boughan
OCEAN PINES - Evelyn Jane Boughan, 85, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.
Born in Fruitland, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Texina Givans Dennis. She was preceded in death by her husband James Boughan in 1987. She is survived by her three children, Janice Hastings McTernan of Ocean Pines, Judy Hastings Schaub and her husband John of Sykesville, Md. and H. James Hastings and his wife Johnni of Raleigh, N.C.; five grandchildren, John McTernan, Jr. of Delmar, Del., Gerald McTernan of El Paso, Texas, James McTernan of Berlin, Page H. Lohmeier of Bowie, Md. and Janice H. Elliott of Lynchburg, Va.; three great-grandchildren, Megan McTernan, Kristen McTernan and Brittany McTernan; five nephews; and one niece.
Mrs. Boughan had retired in 1980 after a career with the investigative department of the Maryland Income Tax Division. She had been a volunteer at Atlantic General Hospital.

Edward B. Heyden Jr.
OCEAN PINES - Edward B. Heyden Jr., 80, died on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004.
Born in Orange, N.J., he was the son of the late Edward B. and Florence Weston Heyden. He is survived by his wife, Lois Comrie Heyden; three sons, Dr. Edward Heyden III and his wife Robin Pittman of Hallandale, Fla., Richard Heyden and his wife Mary Frances of Prescott, Ariz., Michael C. Heyden and his wife Michele of Wilmington, Del.; two daughters, Mary Ellen Warren and her husband Warren of Wilmington, Del. and Nancy Meredith of Ocean Pines, Md.; two sisters, Gale Templeton of New York City, N.Y. and Joyce Hintz of Westfield, N.J.; five grandchildren, Carolyn Heyden, Richard Appel, Stacey McMinds, Samantha Meredith and Michael Heyden, Jr.; and one great-grandchild, Marissa McMinds.
Mr. Heyden attended Texas Christian University prior to enlisting in the Army Air Corps. He served in the Pacific as a flight engineer on B-29's. He was awarded the Air Medal. He graduated from Rutgers University. He then taught academics and coached football and basketball at high schools in New York and was guidance counselor in South Hampton High School and Mt. Pleasant High School in Brandywine School District, Wilmington, Del. He was president of Delaware Personnel and Guidance Assoc. Counselor of the year award in 1968.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church and interment was in Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Millsboro, Del. Donations may be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21801 or the American Heart Assoc., 415 Charles St. Baltimore, Md. 21201.

Patricia Jeanette Rozell
BERLIN - Patricia Jeanette Rozell, 67, died at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin on Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004.
Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Robert Ward Gosnell and Anna Cecelia Lamont Gosnell. She was a homemaker and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Berlin. Her husband, Robert Ray Rozell predeceased her in 2002.
She is survived by a son, Thomas James Rozell of Roxanna, Del.; four daughters, Elizabeth A. Wallace of Eden, Md., Anna Marie Jarman of Ocean City, Patty Jane Glenn of Berlin and Linda Annette Payne of Bishopville; two sisters, Roberta Kounse of Illinois and Catherine Willey of Berlin; a sister-in-law, Alice Kakareka of Moscow, Pa; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
No public services will be held. Private family services will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, West St., Berlin, Md. 21811.
