Christine Mary Reed
OCEAN PINES – Christine Mary Reed, 42, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2006 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.
Born in New York, she was the daughter of Philip and Ann Virginia Reed. Also surviving are two brothers, Joseph Reed and his wife Janet of Michigan and Daniel Reed and his wife Cheri of Maryland; three sisters, Susan Rich and her husband Roy, Kathryn Ferrusi and her husband Ralph and Sally Deorio and her husband Vincent, all of New York; aunts and uncle, Mary and Robert Gale and Mary Alice Kiggins; and five nieces and three nephews.
Reed was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Ocean Pines and the Benedictine School in Ridgley, Md. where she was a leader in group home activities. She was very artistic, loved music and had a flair for color. She enjoyed numerous arts and crafts, patiently weaving multi-colored potholders and knitted scarves as family gifts for holidays and special occasions.

William Allen Puckett
OCEAN CITY – William Allen Puckett, 71, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006 at John’s Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Steve Jonas and Alice Kathryn Jonas and father of the late William Allen Puckett Jr. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Lee Puckett, and a son, Stephen C. Puckett, and his wife, Lori of Ashburn, Va., and their children, Ellie Layne Puckett and Marley Kay Puckett.
Puckett was an Army veteran and a member of the Ocean City VFW, Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge and the Sinepuxent American Legion Post #166.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin. Viewing for friends and family from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. before the service. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society c/o Gerri Harrison, 337 Winter Quarters Dr., Pocomoke City, Md. 21851.
Randy-Lee Edward Welton
BERLIN – Randy-Lee Edward Welton, 15, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006.
Born in Salisbury, he was the son of Roger V. Welton Sr. and Melanie Higgs Welton. Besides his parents, he is survived by his two brothers, Roger V. Welton Jr. and Reed Welton; a sister, Rachel Welton; grandparents, Bette and Charles Orr and Vernon Welton; and aunts and uncles, Cheri and Douglas Phelan, Russell Welton, Richard and Elizabeth Welton, Annette Higgs and Steven Vukovan.
Welton was a student at Stephen Decatur High School. He was known for his quick smile and kindness. It did not matter whether he had known someone for years or days, he always made the person feel like a friend. People were drawn to him. He could be goofy as he could be serious, a real magnetic personality. He was a talented artist, skilled in guitar, painting and drawing. His creative spirit was boundless, a true poet at heart. He could make the saddest person smile and will be sorely missed by all.
A funeral service was held. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his honor to the Community Church of Ocean Pines, 11227 Racetrack Rd., Ocean Pines, Md. 21811; note in memo section, Crisis Ministry Randy Welton Memorial.
Sadie L. Simpson
OCEAN CITY – Sadie L. Simpson, 78, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006.
Born in Berlin, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Anna B. Hadder. She was preceded in death by her husband Jones Lyle Simpson in 1998. She is survived by her sons, Charles Wayne Simpson Sr. of Princess Anne, Theodore Cooper and his wife Diane of Bishopville; four grandchildren, CharlesWayne Simpson Jr. and his wife Michelle, Kimberly Simpson Kirby and her husband Pastor Timothy Kirby, Rodney Cooper and Theodore Cooper; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Simpson was a caregiver, operating Sadie’s Happy House.
A funeral service was held. Pastor Timothy Kirby presided.
Linda M. Dash
OCEAN CITY – Linda M. Dash, 49, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2006 at her home. She is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Robbins of Ocean City, and a brother, Mitch Whitney and his wife Teresita of Baltimore City.
Dash loved the holidays and she loved to decorate.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.
John Emory Crompton
BERLIN – John Emory Crompton, Sr. widower of Helen Haines Crompton, entered into eternal rest on Friday, Oct. 6, 2006 at a nursing home in South Carolina.
He was born on May 26, 1908 in Wilmington, Del. to the late John Elmer Crompton and Nancy Sayers Crompton. Crompton retired from Congoleum Corporation of Marcus Hook, Pa. in 1973, after 23 years of service. In 1974, John and wife, Helen retired to Ocean City, where they were active in Ocean City Seniors and were members of Atlantic United Methodist Church.
He was a self-employed painter. He moved to Mount Pleasant, S.C. in 2000 to be near his family. Like Will Rogers, John, “never met a man he didn’t like.” He made friends easily wherever he was. People were attracted to him because of his friendliness and great sense of humor. He loved horse racing, dancing and corresponding with family and friends
He was preceded in death by brothers, Clifford Crompton, Thomas Burton, Willard Lee Burton and sisters, Marie Crompton Cathcart and Tedi Burton Holsworth.
He will be sadly missed by all, especially his beloved family, son, Donald E. Crompton and his wife Carolyn, of Wilmington, Del.; daughters, Sandra C. Narcisso and her husband Bill, Joanne Crompton and partner, Michael Trusiak, and son, John E. Crompton, Jr. and his wife Suzanne, all of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; brother, David Burton of Norfolk, Va.; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law.
The funeral service was held in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park where family and friends may call at 1 p.m. Burial will be in the adjoining memorial park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity International, 121 Habitat Street, Americus, Ga. 31709-3498.

Bonnie L. Gohl
SELBYVILLE – Bonnie L. Gohl, 55, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007 after courageously battling cervical cancer.
Born in Atlantic City, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Alfred F. and Helen L. Morse Gohl, Jr. She is survived by her son, Jason A. Overturf of Ocean City; a sister, Janice Baker of Selbyville; and a nephew, Christopher Clifton of New Castle, Del. She also leaves behind her three wonderful cats, Taylor, Millie and Chester, who always brought her much comfort.
Gohl was the office administrator for Coldwell Banker Realtors in Ocean City and was a certified dog groomer and kennel attendant for the Heavenly Hound Hotel in Selbyville.
A memorial service will be held at Hastings Funeral Home in Selbyville Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007 at noon. Memorial donations may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 201A West Dupont Hwy. Millsboro, Del. 19966 or take yourself or a loved one to have a pap test as soon as possible.
Betty H. Wood
BERLIN – Betty H. Wood, 86, formerly of Schenectady, N.Y. and Valley Forge, Pa., died Monday, Feb. 12, 2007 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.
Born in North Wilkesboro, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Sargent D. and Agnes Duffield. Her husband, Norman H. Wood, preceded her in death in 1995. She is survived by her daughters, Betsy A. Schalk of Clifton Park, N.Y. and Donna J. Knapp of Brockport, N.Y.; a sister, J. McNeil Sargent of San Diego, Calif.; and a granddaughter, Rachel Knapp.
Wood had been a teacher at the Drake Business College in Newark, N.J. and had also been a secretary for the Schenectady School System. She was a member of the Community Church at Ocean Pines and was very active in her church. She was an avid bridge player and an avid tennis player and was “known for being great at the net.” She enjoyed needlepoint and was an awesome cook.

Marie E. Jones
OCEAN CITY – Marie E. Jones of Ocean City died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.
Born in Baltimore, she was a daughter of the late John J. and Marie Planicka Zitnik. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances E. Martin.
She attended Eastern High School in Baltimore and the University of Maryland for two years. She moved to the Washington area and became involved in politics as well as her career. She had many accomplishments in her career, among them are legal secretary of Montgomery County, special agent for Prudential Insurance Company, member of the American Red Cross, president of the Women’s Democratic Club, state chairman of the Young Democratic Club, and she is listed in Who's Who of American Women, fourth edition.
She married
Norman Jones in 1964 and moved to Ocean City. She became involved in real estate and was a licensed Realtor, associate broker and a member of the Million Dollar Club. In 1982, she retired from real estate to assist her husband in Norman R. Jones Surveys Inc. and Jones Apartment Rentals.
She was also a member of First Presbyterian Church of Ocean City, and held the office of deacon.
Jones is survived by her husband, Norman R. Jones; two daughters, Sharon Mumford and Dianna Rayne and her husband, Edgar; one son, Russell Jones and his wife, Debbie; a sister, Dorothy Pokorny Delp and her husband, Jimmy; a nephew, Arthur Pokorny and his wife, Janet; a niece, Janice Gueydan and husband, Jon; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Ocean City, 1301 Philadelphia Ave. in Ocean City, where family will receive friends one hour prior. The Rev. Alex Ayers will officiate.

Mary Jo “Jody” Blake
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Mary Jo “Jody” Blake, 71, of Bloomington died Thursday at Bloomington Hospital.
Born Sept. 5, 1935, in Monroe County, she was the daughter of Olaf “Kiko” Knight and Edith (Eads) Knight.
She retired from RCA in 1996. Survivors include two sons, Cal Blake (Victoria) of Gatlinburg, Tenn. and Brian Blake (Ginny) of Ellettsville; one daughter, Laura “Jerri” Johnston (Earle “Skip”) of Ocean City; two brothers, Frank Knight of Bloomington and Bobby Knight of Lake Panasoffkee, Fla.; two sisters, Bernedine Hodson of Camby and Judy Gold of North Vernon; grandchildren, Cal and Beth Blake and Elisha Snyder, all of Bloomington, Angela Asmussen of Trappe, Md., Gabriel Temple of Nashville, and Levi and Bradley Blake of Ellettsville; great-grandchildren, Aleah, Cale, Alexa, Stevie and Dakota; two step-grandsons, Bob Gredy Jr. and Zach Gredy of Nashville; and one step-granddaughter, Alisha Mathis of Nashville. She was preceded in death by her parents.
There will be no services or visitation.
