David Webb Herlocker

David Webb Herlocker, 67, of Westminster, died unexpectedly but peacefully at his home on Friday, March 21, 2008.
Born October 30, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois, he is the son of Donald Herlocker and the late Betty Comfort Herlocker. He was raised in Peoria, Illinois.
He was a 1962 graduate of Knox College and graduated from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in 1966 with a doctorate in inorganic chemistry.
In 1966, he began a long career teaching chemistry at Western Maryland College, now McDaniel College. He served as the Chemistry Department chair department chair for many years. He retired in 2006 and was named an emeritus faculty member. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the American Chemical Society, and other professional organizations.
He began running in the mid 1970s and was a member of the Westminster and York Road Runner Clubs. He was an organizer of many road races in and around Westminster, including the Main Street Mile. After an accident in 1995 left him unable to run, he continued to walk daily with friends. He was a recognizable figure at many races with his loyal canine companion, Badie.
He was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church and served on the church council and scholarship committee. He was active in Ardent Folk, a ministry providing meals to those in need.
He was a member of the parent organizing committee which founded the Westminster Montessori School in 1974. He helped to develop and implement the school's chemistry curriculum. Since his retirement he has volunteered weekly in their science classes.
An avid sports fan, he followed the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and the McDaniel women's basketball and volleyball teams. He was a 27-year member of a book club and a lover of history and trivia.
Remembering him are children and partners Caryn Herlocker Meade and Adam Meade of Raleigh, NC and Daniel Herlocker and Ellen Keelan of Brattleboro, VT; father Donald Herlocker of Canton, IL; brother and sister-in-law William and Hilda Herlocker of Kildeer, IL; sister and brother-in-law Linda and Peter Speck of Wanganui New Zealand; grandchildren Evan and Georgia Meade; former wife and friend Helen Herlocker; and numerous friends.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25 at Grace Lutheran Church, 21 Carroll St, Westminster with his pastors Rev. Kevin and Martha Clementson officiating.
Inurnment of ashes will be in Grace Lutheran Church Columbarium.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church in support of the Ardent Folk social ministry.
Benjamin Alden Sochrin
Born in Baltimore on Oct. 29, 1987
Departed on Jul. 23, 2008 and resided in Westminster, MD.
Benjamin Alden Sochrin, 20, of Westminster, died Wednesday July 23, 2008 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. Born October 29, 1987 in Baltimore he was the son of Jay and Toni Sochrin of Westminster.
He graduated in 2005 from Francis Scott Key High School and the Carroll County Career and Technology Center. He was currently attending Carroll Community College and working as a Mechanical Designer at Evapco. Prior to that he worked at Westminster Lawn Service and for Dean Camlin and Associates. He was a member of St. Benjamin's (Krider's) Lutheran Church and the Uniontown Bible Church Youth Ministry Group.
He enjoyed riding his Buell Harley Davidson Motorcycle, snow boarding, traveling, family and friends and was a social butterfly. He was also an organ donor.
Besides his parents he is survived by one brother Jason Sochrin, serving in the Army stationed in Iraq, one sister Katie Sochrin of Westminster, maternal grandparents Verna and Robert Hirschmann of Ellicott City. Also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
He was predeceased by paternal grandparents Myra and Leon Sochrin.
A celebration of life service will be held for family and friends on Monday, July 28, 2008 10 a.m. at St. Benjamin's (Krider's) Lutheran Church, 700 Krider's cemetery Rd., Westminster with his pastor Rev. David Schafer officiating. Interment in Krider's Cemetery.
Immediately following the burial the family will receive friends for a luncheon at the Pleasant Valley Community Fire Hall, 2030 South Pleasant Valley Rd., Westminster, MD 21158 from noon until 3 p.m.

Helen Larue Frizzell
Born in New Windsor on Jul. 8, 1924
Departed on Aug. 18, 2010 and resided in Frizzellburg, MD.
Helen Larue "Becky" Frizzell, 86, of Frizzellburg, died Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Carroll Hospital Center. Born July 8, 1924 in New Windsor, she was the daughter of the late Evelyn Jones Bond and Harry Bond. She was the wife of the late Harry Newell "Newts" Frizzell.
Before retiring she worked at Westminster Shoe. She was a member of Frizzellburg Bible Church, VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Westminster, Rescue Mission, American Legion Post No. 31 and Purple Heart.
Survived by sister June Bond Jones of Westminster, an aunt Virginia Sparrow of Westminster and friends Barbara Sanner and Shirley Barrick, both of Westminster. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband she was predeceased by a son Harry Frizzell, Jr.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, Aug. 23 at 11 a.m. at St. James United Methodist Church Cemetery, 2900 Marston Rd., New Windsor, MD 21776 with Rev. Andrew Reisberg officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Frizzellburg Bible Church, 1905 Frizzellburg Rd., Westminster, MD 21158.

Evelyn May Kauffman
Born in Woodbine on Jun. 19, 1927
Departed on Aug. 25, 2010 and resided in Westminster, MD.
Evelyn May Kauffman, 83, of Westminster died Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Transitions Health Care in Sykesville. Bore June 19, 1927 in Woodbine, she was the daughter of the late Charles S. Pickett and Elizabeth Wetzel Pickett. She was the wife of Edgar Theodore Kauffman who died September 19, 1986.
Before retiring she worked in the cafeteria at Springfield Hospital. She was a member of the Women of the Moose Chapter #897. She enjoyed bowling.
She is survived by sister and brother-in-law Rose M. and Melvin T. Hush of Sykesville. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister Dorothy L. Hooper and brothers George E. and Charles S. Pickett.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m at the Fletcher Funeral Home, 254 East Main Street, Westminster.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 A.M at the funeral home with Rev. Richard Shamer officiating. Interment will follow in St. James United Methodist Church cemetery in Dennings.

Virginia Butler
Born in Baltimore on Jan. 29, 1915
Departed on Aug. 25, 2010 and resided in Westminster, MD.
Mrs. Butler was born on January 29, 1915 in Baltimore to Walter and Anna Bierman and raised in the Govans and Belair/Edison areas of that city. She graduated from Eastern High School in 1934 and married
Paul H. Bauer on April 3, 1937. They were a devoted couple who shared 46 years of marriage and raised one daughter. On May 28, 2001, at the age of 86, she married
long time friend Charles Butler. He predeceased her.
Mrs. Butler's infectious laugh, generosity and kindness endeared her to many throughout her life. She was always more concerned for others than for herself. And, she loved to ballroom dance.
Mrs. Butler is remembered with love by her daughter and son in law, Jan (Janet) and Dave Flora of Westminster, grandchildren Jeffrey Carter and Krista Kist, grandchildren in law, Kim Carter and Ed Kist, her three great granddaughters, Anna, Grace and Julie Carter and great grandson, Connor Kist. She is also remembered by her three nieces, a nephew, three step daughters and their families.
Her brothers, Melvin and Walter Bierman, predeceased her. At her request, interment will be private. There will be visitation from 4 – 7 p.m. on Monday, August 30 at Fletcher Funeral Home, 245 E. Main St., Westminster and a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 31, at the Westminster Church of the Brethren, 1 Park Place, Westminster with The Reverend Glenn McCrickard and The Reverend Doctor Jeffrey Carter officiating.

Robert Wayne Mitchell
Born in Sherman, TX on Oct. 27, 1950
Departed on Aug. 27, 2010 and resided in Gettysburg, PA.
Robert Wayne Mitchell, 59, of Gettysburg, Pa., died Friday, August 27, 2010 at York Hospital. Born Oct. 27, 1950 in Sherman, TX, he was the son of the late Richie Wayne Mitchell and Louise Dinst Richardson of Westminster and stepfather John R. Richardson
He owned and operated Mitchell's Gunning Supplies and Rebuilding Service along with Corvette Restoration. He served in the National Guard of Maryland for 6 years and was a 1968 graduate of Westminster High School. He was a member of the Gettysburg Eagles, Life Member of the AMVETS and was of the Methodist faith.
Besides his mother, he is survived by brother and sister-in-law Max and Terry Mitchell of Manchester, sisters and brother-in-laws Roxanne and Frank Blackburn of Hanover, Pa., and Pamela and Tracy Dwyer of Westminster. Also survived by 2 nephews and 1 niece.
He was predeceased by grandparents Robert and Helen Dinst and Tilly and John Mitchell.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
