LEWIS F. WELCH SR.
Lewis Franklin Welch Sr., 71, Kitzmiller, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Dec. 16, 1936, in Shaw, W.Va., he was a son of the late Hazel M. (Huffman) and Charles R. Welch.
Mr. Welch was a retired heavy equipment operator with Buffalo Coal Company and was a Navy veteran.
He is survived by one son, Lewis F. Welch Jr. and wife Shannon, Kitzmiller; two daughters, Janice White and husband Josh, Elkins, W.Va., and Jessica Welch, Kitzmiller; one grandson, Isaiah White; and was expecting the birth a granddaughter, Amber M. Welch.
Friends were received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, today, Thursday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 1, at the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Joyce Anderson officiating.
Interment will follow in Kalbaugh Cemetery, Elk Garden, W.Va., where military honors will be accorded.
GILBERT S. CROWE
Gilbert Sylvester Crowe, 87, Lonaconing, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, in Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore.
Born April 28, 1920, in Klondike, he was a son of the late Emma C. (Wilhelm) and Edward Crowe. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lois Josephine Resh; one brother, Ellis Crowe; and one sister, Mary Engle.
Mr. Crowe was a steelworker for Armco Steel, Baltimore, and he retired in 1982. He was of the Catholic faith and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.
He is survived by three brothers, Edward Crowe, Lonaconing, and Glenn and Ronald Crowe, both of Ohio; and five sisters, Ida Morgan and Mabel Horn, both of Baltimore, Faye Garlitz and Betty Garlitz, both of Ohio, and Emma Walker, Lonaconing.
Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, on Friday, Feb. 1, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann’s Mission, Avilton, on Saturday at 11 a.m., with Father Jim Hannon officiating.
Interment will be in Grantsville Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be accorded by Grantsville Post 214, American Legion.

GEORGE H. BEEMAN
George H. Beeman, 76, Boynton, Pa., died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, at Somerset Hospital, Somerset, Pa.
Born April 16, 1931, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Rebecca Beeman.
He was a retired truck driver for Sanner Brothers and Action Mining with Terry Pletcher, Rockwood, Pa. He was also a member of the Church of the Brethren.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary (Hileman) Beeman; two sons, Gary and Vernon Beeman, both of Boynton; four daughters, Judy Durst, Linda Beeman, and Sharon Tuck, all of Salisbury, Pa., and Vicky Beeman, Boynton; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, today, Thursday, 2 to 4 p.m. and will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening, where a service will be conducted tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 1, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. David E. Fetter officiating.
Interment will be in Grantsville Cemetery.
FLOYD E. GROVE
Floyd Elmer Grove, 91, Friendsville, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at his residence.
Born Nov. 12, 1916, in Guard, he was a son of the late Lloyd J. and Mary E. (Beckett) Grove. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Thelma J. (Frazee) Grove, April 23, 2007.
Mr. Grove was a heavy equipment operator for Kaiser Refractories. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during WWII. He was a member of Accident American Legion Post 208, and attended Mill Run Mercy Chapel.
He is survived by two sons, F. Allen Grove and wife Anna Mae, Fort Hill, Pa., and Terry R. Grove and wife Donna J., Friendsville; one sister, Elsie Glass, Addison, Pa.; four grandchildren, Beth Ann Grove, Terry Grove and wife Kara, Joshua Grove and wife Melinda, and Jamie Grove; and four great-grandchildren, Grant Grove, Kate Grove, Jackson Grove, and Katherine Grove.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Friendsville, where a service was conducted on Saturday, March 29, with the Rev. Daymond Schmuck officiating.
Interment was held in the Addison Cemetery.

JANICE M. LOUGHRIE
Janice Mae (Arnold) Loughrie, 77, formerly of Grantsville, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, in Berksheim, Leesport, Pa.
Born Oct. 23, 1930, in Preston County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Lucille (Lemaster) Arnold. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold G. Loughrie; and one daughter, Nancy Gorman.
She was a retired customer service representative for First United Bank and Trust, Grantsville, and was a member of Maple Spring Church of the Brethren, Aurora, W.Va.
She is survived by two daughters, Jeanette Finkel, Womelsdorf, Pa., and Valerie Stevens, Shepherdstown, W.Va.; two brothers, Bernard Arnold, Aurora, and Ernest Edward Arnold, Thomas, W.Va.; one sister, Carolyn Thrasher, Newnan, Ga.; and seven grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where a service was conducted on Saturday, March 29, with the Rev. Donald Matthews officiating.
Interment was held in the Stemple Ridge Cemetery, Aurora.

GAVIN M. HARVEY
Gavin Michael Harvey, six months, Oakland, died Thursday, March 27, 2008, at his home as the result of spinal muscular atrophy.
Born on Sept. 26, 2007, in Cumberland, he was a son of Richard M. "Mike" Harvey II and Beth A. (Maroney) Harvey, Oakland.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, John and Linda Maroney, Oakland; his paternal grandmother, Mary Jo Wolters, Cumberland; paternal step-grandfather Bernard C. Wolters Cumberland; and paternal grandfather Richard M. Harvey I, Cumberland; and one brother, Bryson D. Harvey, at home.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland.

PATRICIA A. SMITH
Patricia A. Smith, 57, Oakland, died Saturday, March 29, 2008, at the Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born on March 25, 1951, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Terrence and Mary E. (Gravenstein) Carolan.
She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Cumberland, and worked as a caterer for Margie’s Catering, Cumberland.
She is survived by her husband, Larry P. Smith.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Oakland, on Tuesday, April 1, with Fr. Don Parson as celebrant.

FRED SWARTZENTRUBER
Fred Swartzentruber, 90, Belleville, Pa., died Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Valley View Haven, Belleville.
Born March 28, 1918, in Oakland, he was a son of the late Simon and Daisy (Yoder) Swartzentruber. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Claude and Owen Swartzentruber; one sister, Lena Yoder; and one great-grandson, Owen Garrett Martin.
He first worked in Ohio in the Swiss cheese making business before moving his family to Reedsville, Pa., where he became employed at Central Pa. Milk Marketing Cooperative and worked there for 25 years.
He was a member of the Mountain View Mennonite Chapel, the adult Sunday school class, a charter member of the Kidron Fire Company, Kidron, Ohio, and a past board member of the Belleville Mennonite School. He enjoyed doing volunteer work at Valley View Village, hunting, being outdoors, and making maple syrup with his grandchildren.
Since his retirement, he and his wife Orpha have enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S., as well as in other countries. Fred believed that life is a lifelong learning experience.
He is survived by his wife, Orpha, whom he married Nov. 20, 1941; three sons, Ernest Swartzentruber and wife Rachel, Belleville, Herman Swartzentruber, Lewistown, Pa., and Alvin Swartzentruber and wife Elaine, Danville, Pa.; two daughters, Bernadine Schwartzentrtuber and husband Nelson, Lowville, N.Y., and Gertrude Ann "Trudy" Hartzler and husband Joseph T., Belleville; two brothers, Henry Swartzentruber and wife Saloma, Oakland, and Lewis Swartzentruber, Alymer, Ontario, Canada.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and in-laws Rachel Swartzentruber and John C. Yoder, both of Oakland, and Edna Swartzentruber, Hamptonville, N.C.
Friends were received at Valley View Haven Chapel.
A service was held at Mountain View Mennonite Chapel, Reedsville, on Tuesday, April 1, with Pastor Lester Diller, Rev. Galen Sharp, and great-grandson Marshall Nafziger officiating.
Interment followed at the Locust Grove Mennonite Cemetery.
