Richard J. Keckler Sr.
Richard James Keckler Sr., 71, of 323 Linganore Ave., Hagerstown, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, at his home.
Born Feb. 21, 1929, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of Helen Blanche Benchoff Keckler of Waynesboro, Pa., and the late Ralph Elvin Keckler.
His wife, Nancy Ellen Keckler, died Jan. 23, 1999.
He retired from Mack Trucks Inc.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and Wee Brothers Sunday School Class.
He is survived by a daughter, Sondra K. Messner of Keedysville, three sons, Richard J. Keckler Jr., of Ogden, Utah, Donald L. Keckler of Media, Pa., and Charles E. Keckler of Hagerstown; three sisters, Helen Shoemaker of Greencastle, Pa., Betty Crouse of Lancaster, Pa., and Ruth Wagaman of Waynesboro; two brothers, Robert Keckler of Clear Spring and Ralph Keckler of Waynesboro; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Revs. Charles D. Zitzman and Thomas E. Young Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Maxine M. Caldwell
HANCOCK - Maxine M. Caldwell, 70, of Washington Street, died Monday, May 1, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born July 7, 1929, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Lula Broadwater Caldwell.
She was retired from Londontown Corp. in Hancock after 15 years and was employed by Town Cleaners, Hancock, for 29 years.
She was a Protestant.
She is survived by a sister, Lois B. Caldwell of Hancock.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Munson and Alta Breakall and two brothers, John Caldwell and Eugene Caldwell.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. Burial will be in Warfordsburg Presbyterian Cemetery, Warfordsburg, Pa.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open from noon to 9 p.m.
Kennard M. Smith Sr.
CASCADE - Kennard Merhel Smith Sr., 82, of 14627 Pennersville Road, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, at Western Maryland Hospital Center in Hagerstown.
Born April 14, 1918, in Cascade, he was the son of the late Roy O. and Nellie Williard Smith.
He was employed by Landis Tool Co. in Waynesboro for 30 years, and by D.L. George in Rouzerville, Pa., for 5 years.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of People's Gospel Tabernacle in Hagerstown.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Mary Crider Smith; two daughters, Vanassa Pryor of Cascade and Ann Boston of Pen Mar; seven sons, Kennard M. Smith Jr. of Kansas, Paul Smith, Gerald Smith and Steve Smith, all of Florida, Lamont Smith of Tennessee, Gene Smith of Thurmont, Md., and Tommy Smith of Fort Washington, Md.; one stepdaughter, Sue Day of Chambersburg, Pa.; three stepsons, Lloyd Shockey of Hagerstown, Earl Shockey and Robert Shockey, both of Waynesboro; two sisters, Inez Winfield of Smithsburg, and Elizabeth Linton of Hagerstown; 61 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Myrtle Smith, Edna Smith, Mildred Lewis, Ethel Shuey and Ruth Stottlemyer; and two brothers, Donald Smith and Carmel Smith.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at People's Gospel Tabernacle, 543 Security Road, Hagerstown. Pastor Russell H. Huffman will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel cemetery in Cascade.
The family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Melvin L. Shelleman Sr.
Melvin Louis Shelleman Sr., 88, of 126 E. North Ave., Hagerstown, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home in Hagerstown.
Born March 3, 1912, in Hanover, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles C. and Lottie Mae Crommer Shelleman.
He was owner of Shelleman Electrical Services, retiring in 1981. He owned and operated the Smoke Shop on Franklin Street in Hagerstown.
He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.
He was a member of Hagerstown Lodge 217 A.F.&A.M., Ali Ghan Shrine of Cumberland, Forest 95 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, St. Bernards Commandry 9, AARP and a former member of Hagerstown Moose Lodge 212.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Pearl Summer Shelleman of Hagerstown; two daughters, Janice Marie Yancey of York, Pa., and Diana Lee Atfield of Hagerstown; a son, Charles W. Shelleman of Marlowe, W.Va.; a brother, Roger D. Shelleman of Hagerstown; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Joann Shelleman; and a son, Melvin L. Shelleman Jr.
There will be no viewing.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Bessie M. Morgan
TEXAS CITY, Texas - Bessie Mildred "Mickey" Valentine Morgan, 79, of Texas City, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, in Texas City.
Born Sept. 22, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Huber and Laura Bessie Baker Valentine.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Willis Morgan.
She retired from Fairchild Aircraft as a quality control inspector; and was administrative director of Southern Academy of Teaching.
She was a member of First Christian Church, Hagerstown; and Eveready Sunday School Class, Over-the-Hill Gang, and Christian Women's Fellowship, all of Texas City.
She was a member of UAW 842, Texas City.
She is survived by three sons, The Rev. Wes Morgan of Texas City, James Richard Morgan of Hagerstown and Joseph Alan Morgan of Ephrata, Pa.; a daughter, Mary Rosalie Crumrine of Hagerstown; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Roy William Morgan; two brothers, William Frank Valentine and Roy Robert Valentine; and a sister, Esther Rosalie Whitlow.
Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at First Christian Church, Hagerstown. The Revs. Fred M. Harris, Wes Morgan and Chris Hobgood will officiate. A reception will follow in Fellowship Hall.

Robert P. Snowberger
DELTONA, Fla. - Robert P. Snowberger, 79, of Deltona, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at his home.
Born in Ringgold, Md., he was the son of the late John H. and Naomi Pryor Snowberger.
He retired from Frick Co. of Waynesboro, Pa.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of Ringgold Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Cantner Snowberger; three daughters, Patricia Warrenfeltz of Murrells Inlet, S.C., Kay Sheiss of Frederick, Md., and Fay E. Slowe of Deltona; a sister, E. Louise Cantner of Ringgold; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family in Ringgold.
