James E. King
CUMBERLAND, Md. - James E. King, 55, a resident of Delvin Manor and formerly of Sharpsburg died Wednesday, May 5, 2000, at Cumberland Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 11, 1945, in Keyser, W.Va., he was the son of the late Herman M. and Rayma Maxine Leatherman King.
He was a 1963 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School.
He was employed by Corning Glass in Greencastle; and later by Maryland Ribbon in Hagerstown. He then worked for Eastern Products in Hagerstown as a machinist.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by a daughter, Karen J. Hartle of Sharpsburg; two sons, David W. King of The Colony, Texas and Timothy E. King of Dallas; six sisters, Judith Ann Norris of Little Orleans, Md., Rita M. Anderson of Low Moor, Va. and Shirley L. Eichelberger of Hagerstown, Sandra D. Stoner of Greencastle, Paula R. Lehman of Waynesboro, Pa. and Tamya R. Shaw of Columbia, Md.; a brother, Gerald E. King of Chambersburg; a close friend, Patsy L. Norris of Flintstone, Md.; two grandsons; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St. in Greencastle. The Rev. Gayle L. Ruble Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Eleanor J. Gallo
Eleanor J. Gallo, 83, of 11224 Greenmount Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home.
Born Jan. 6, 1917, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Elliot and Elsie M. Eyler Harbaugh.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Gallo.
She retired as a knitter from Interwoven Stocking Mill, and previously worked for Victor Hoisery.
She is survived by a daughter, Donna M. Cole of Hagerstown; a sister, Effie Minnick of Hagerstown; a brother, Ralph Harbaugh of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Bernadine Ingram, Louella Carty and Ethel Hurd.
Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St. in Hagerstown. The Rev. J. Norman Mayer will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

FREDERICK, Md. - Mary Helen Williams Underwood, 48, of Frederick, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at Homewood at Crumland Farms in Frederick.
Born May 12, 1951, in Front Royal, Va., she was the daughter of Annie V. Mahoney Williams Walters of Strasburg, Va., and the late Noah S. Williams.
She was a member of Calvary Apostolic Church of Gaithersburg, Md., and had taught Sunday school.
She was involved with Multiple Sclerosis Society of Strasburg and Westminster, Md.
She is survived by her husband, James Alfred Underwood Sr.; two daughters, Victoria S. Hudak of Frederick and Melissa M. Dowler of Hagerstown; two stepsons, James A. Underwood Jr. of Walkersville, Md. and Larry V. Underwood of Frederick; a sister, Brucie Jenkins of Browntown, Va.; four brothers, Arnold D. Williams of Bentonville, Va., Bradley Williams of Chester Gap, Va., Bossie Williams of Front Royal and John L. Walters of Bentonville; three grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Tabitha M. Mahoney; a sister, Bertha Williams; and a brother, Andrew Williams.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick. The Rev. John Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery in Frederick.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

SMITHSBURG - Thomas F. Draper, 77, of 23619 Foxville Road, who died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, is survived by a son, Jerry L. Draper of Smithsburg.
Abagail K. Benedict
Abagail Kristine Benedict, two weeks, of 128 1/2 S. Locust St., Hagerstown, died Sunday, April 30, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 18, 2000, in Hagerstown, she was the infant daughter of Bruce E. and Lisa Michele Payne Benedict.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sisters, Ashley N. Benedict and Amanda D. Benedict, both of Hagerstown; five brothers, Bruce E. Benedict Jr., Brandon S. Benedict, Kyle M. Benedict, Andrew T. Benedict and Joshua M. Benedict, all of Hagerstown; maternal grandmother, Linda Payne of Hagerstown; and paternal grandmother, Nancy G. Courtney of Hagerstown.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Austin Benedict; maternal grandfather, Lester R. Payne; and paternal grandfather, Richard N. Benedict.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. The Rev. David Sword will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Roger T. Droneburg
FREDERICK, Md. - Roger Truman Droneburg, 93, of 907 Motter Place, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at Citizens Nursing Home.
Born Dec. 16, 1906, in New Market, Md., he was the son of the late William Baxter and Neva Kreglow Droneburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Winpigler Droneburg, in 1994.
He retired from Ever-Ready Co. in Frederick after working more than 40 years as a die setter.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
He was a member of United Fire Co.; and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 371 of Frederick.
He is survived by two sons, Jack Droneburg and Gene Droneburg, both of Frederick; a daughter, Nancy Corun of Boonsboro; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Inza Bishop; and a brother, Gordon Droneburg.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St. in Frederick. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery in Frederick.

Herbert R. Johnston
HANCOCK - Herbert R. Johnston, 81, of West Main Street, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Born Nov. 6, 1918, in Hancock, he was the son of the late William Bradley and Bertha Pearl Culp Johnston.
His first wife, Audrey Layton Johnston, died in 1975.
He was a graduate of Hancock High School.
He retired from Londontown Corp. in Hancock in 1988, and had been employed by R.S. Dillon Orchards in Hancock.
He was coach and manager of the London Fog softball team.
He is survived by his wife, Goldie M. Younker Johnston of Hancock; one stepdaughter, Betty L. Henson of Hancock; two sisters, Ruth Mackereth of Baltimore, and Virginia Simmons of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one step granddaughter and one step great-grandson; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Johnston and Marvin Johnston.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. Robert D. Smith Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Piney Plains United Methodist cemetery in Little Orleans, Md.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will open at 2 p.m.
