Bettie M. Turnock
WILLIAMSPORT - Bettie McFarland Turnock, 82, of 15505 Falling Waters Road, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.
Born April 12, 1918, in Ambler, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Wesley and Elizabeth Greer McFarland.
Her husband, the Rev. J. Edmund Turnock, died in 1998.
She graduated from West Chester State Teachers College and attended New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.
She was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Nazarene, taught Senior Sunday school and assisted her husband's pastoral ministries.
She is survived by a son, The Rev. John James Turnock of Williamsport; a brother, Wesley McFarland of Ambler; two granddaughters, Tiffany Turnock and Bethany Turnock, both of Williamsport, and a grandson, Jeremy Turnock of Williamsport.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Taylor.
Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Hagerstown Church of the Nazarene, Hagerstown. The Rev. Richard A. Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
The family will receive friends today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.

Robert T. Miller
Robert Townsend Miller, 74, of Hagerstown, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at his home.
Born Oct. 15, 1925, in Plainfield, N.J., he was the son of the late Oscar William and Grace Taylor Miller.
His wife, Lois Jean Varner Miller, died in 1997.
He graduated from Bloomfield College, Bloomfield, N.J., with a bachelor of science degree in math.
He was employed by Mack Trucks Inc. for 32 years, retiring in 1989.
A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, he served during World War II.
He was a member of Christ's Reformed Church.
He was a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge 378; AMVETS Post 10; American Legion Dixon Troxell Post 211 and Moose Lodge 2435, both of Funkstown; and Eagles Inc. of Waynesboro, Pa.
He is survived by five daughters, Susan Price of Carlisle, Pa., Carol Marcum and Linda Murray, both of Hagerstown, Cathy Rice of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Robyn Miller of Catonsville, Md.; six grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Christ's Reformed Church, Hagerstown. The Rev. Don R. Stevenson will officiate.
There will be no viewing or visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ's Reformed Church, Facilities Renovation Project, 130 W. Franklin St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Robert P. Boward
Robert Perry Boward, 72, of 212 Rockwillow Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at his home.
Born Sept. 8, 1927, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Margery Divens Triplett of Hagerstown and the late Robert Perry Boward Sr.
He was employed by Fairchild Aircraft from 1945 to 1962; and by Mack Trucks, retiring in 1988.
He served in the U.S. Army in Japan and Korea from 1950 to 1952.
He was a member of Evangel Baptist Church.
He was a member of VFW Post 1936; and Moc Pup Tent 7.
He was president of West End Little League and Hub City Basketball League; manager of fast pitch teams from the 1950's to 1970's. He was involved in the formation of Superior Youth League.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 37 years, Betty J. Boward; a stepson, Danny Lee Garling of Hagerstown; two sisters, Margaret Holliday of Miami and Jane Webb of Hagerstown; a brother, Kenneth Boward of Port Richey, Fla.; five stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Evangel Baptist Church, 17922 Broadfording Road in Hagerstown. The Revs. Ernest Thompson and Dale R. Carver will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

Evelyn P. Rodgers
Evelyn Pauline Rodgers, 86, of 1041 Glenwood Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Williamsport Nursing Home in Williamsport.
Born Dec. 27, 1913, in Franklin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry Bert and Ruth I. Moats Miller.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ordean J. Rodgers, in 1971.
She was a 1932 graduate of Waynesboro High School.
She retired from Ross Garment Co. in Hagerstown in 1978 after 20 years as a seamstress.
She was a member of Hagerstown Presbyterian Church.
She was a member of Hagerstown Senior Citizens; International Ladies Garment Workers Union in New York; and a former member of Waynesboro BPO Elks.
She is survived by two sons, Robert D. Rodgers Sr. of Funkstown and Donald E. Rodgers of Hagerstown; a sister, H. Larue Lehr of Felton, Pa.; two brothers, Glenn O. Miller of Warnersville, Pa. and Clark W. Miller of Greencastle, Pa.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Jay Fretz will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven cemetery in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
H. Jane Martin
H. Jane Martin, 87, of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born June 11, 1912, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late W. Edgar and Laura Startzman Martin.
She graduated from Hagerstown High School. She received a bachelor of science degree in education in 1931 from Maryland State Normal School at Towson. She received a master of arts in the teaching of English in 1939 from Johns Hopkins University; and was a 1946 graduate of Teachers College at Columbia University; and in 1957 took post-graduate study at Teachers College, Columbia Television Workshop in Hagerstown.
She taught at Lincoln School in Halfway, Surrey School, South Potomac Jr. High, and was a studio teacher at the TV Center from 1957 to 1976.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, taught Sunday school, served two terms on the church council and was church historian.
She was a member of Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society; Chi Chapter Pi Lambda Theta; Hopkins Chapter of the National Honor Society for women and later a member at large; Gamma Chapter Delta Kappa Gamma Society serving one term as vice president; Pi Chapter Delta Kappa Gamma Society serving one term as vice president; and local, state and national teachers' associations.
She was a speaker at workshops on TV instruction sponsored by Ontario Teachers Federation in August 1951; a member of Washington County Museum of Fine Arts and Friends of Western Maryland Room; and Washington County Historical Society.
She was a member of Historical Preservation Council and co-author of three tours of historic districts in Hagerstown; a member of Washington County Genealogy Society; U.S. English Inc.; Gettysburg Historical Society; and a member, past regent and historian of Conococheague Chapter of NSDAR.
She was a Washington County "Unsung Hero" in the Maryland You Are Beautiful program in 1988.
She is survived by a brother, Robert S. Martin of Hagerstown; and three nieces.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Edgar T. Martin.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 141 S. Potomac St. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Edward H. Heim will officiate. Burial will be in Grace U.C.C. Church cemetery in Taneytown, Md.
