Emma O. Levie
Emma Olivia Levie, 89, a resident of Ravenwood Lutheran Village, Hagerstown and formerly of 660 Northern Ave., died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born July 25, 1910, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Charles Franklin and Hattie May Strole.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sterling Louis Levie, in 1999.
She was a volunteer at Washington County Hospital.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
She is survived by two sons, Sterling L. Levie Jr. of Holmdel, N.J., and Michael M. Levie of Endwell, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris and Janet.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 15 Randolph Ave. in Hagerstown. The Revs. Robert C. Lehman and Wayne Schwanke will officiate. Entombment will be in Cedar Lawn Park Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown, and Monday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the services at the church.
Bessie G. Dailey
WILLIAMSPORT - Bessie Grace Dailey, 97, of 16607 Tammany Lane, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at her home.
Born April 21, 1903, in Stroudsburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles Wesley and Blanche Marion Smith Dailey.
She was a graduate of Stroudsburg High School and a 1923 graduate of Washington Sanitarium and Hospital in Tacoma Park, Md.
She retired in 1965 from Columbia Hospital for Women in Washington, D.C., as a registered nurse and OB supervisor.
She was a member of Hagerstown Seventh-day Adventist Church.
She is survived by two nieces, Helen Brown of Adamsville, Pa., and L. Elaine Masson of Baltimore; a nephew, James W. Arrington of Williamsport; great-nieces; and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Vida Blanche Arrington, Marion Ardella Hartle and Leah Elizabeth Linnell, and a brother, Robert Smith Dailey.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St. in Williamsport. Pastor James R. Hoffer will officiate. Burial will be in Stroudsburg cemetery at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends Monday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open at 9 a.m.
Harold L. Cline
Harold L. "Bill" Cline, 79, of 1140 Jefferson Blvd., Hagerstown, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at his home.
Born Jan. 31, 1921, in Garfield, Md., he was the son of the late John W. and Mae Hauver Cline.
He was a 1939 graduate of Middletown High School.
He was a farmer for 55 years, and was employed with Fairchild Aircraft and Charlton Brothers Transportation, both in Hagerstown.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps.
He was a member of South Mountain Rod and Gun Club in Smithsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Emma Jane Cline; six daughters, Delores Krasowski, Barbara Ann Cline, Loretta L. Moser and Mickey L. Myers, all of Hagerstown, Gloria Jean Jacques of Smithsburg and Mae M. Unger of Great Cacapon, W.Va.; five sons, Jerry A. Cline, Terry L. Cline, Victor L. Cline and Lance E. Cline, all of Hagerstown, and Wayne D. Cline of Falling Waters, W.Va.; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Harold L. Cline Jr., a sister and two brothers.
Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg. Pastor Jay M. Fritz will officiate. Interment will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
John E. Browning
John Earl Browning, 92, of 201 Garlinger Ave., Hagerstown, died Friday, May 12, 2000, at Williamsport Nursing Home in Williamsport.
Born May 10, 1908, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Banner Benjamin and Helen Billmyer Browning.
He was a 1930 graduate of North Hagerstown High School, where he was a member of the high school state championship soccer team. He later played professional soccer for a period of time.
He retired in 1975 from Maryland Motors in Hagerstown after 35 years as store manager.
He was a Baptist.
He was a member of Western Maryland Sportsmans Club and National Rifle Association.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine Mary Karn Browning; two daughters, Patricia L. Luipersbeck of Hagerstown and Linda L. Perry of Frederick, Md.; two sisters, Virginia Mozingo of Chambersburg, Pa., and Mary Showe of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Elwood Browning and Banner Benjamin Browning Jr.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Tim Lester will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Carl E. Mitchell
WILLIAMSPORT - Carl E. "John" Mitchell, 67, of 10905 Bower Ave., died Friday, May 12, 2000, at his home.
Born Nov. 11, 1932, in Williamsport, he was the son of Walter David Mitchell of Pasadena, Md., and the late Rosalie Jeanette Zimmerman Mitchell.
He retired from the U.S. Army in 1974, and then worked for Maryland Metals in Hagerstown.
He was a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War, serving as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army.
He was a Protestant.
He was a member of American Legion Post 202 of Williamsport, Volunteer Fire Co. of Halfway and AARP.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Shirley L. Mellott Mitchell, whom he married
Feb. 25, 1954; a daughter, Sandra Kelly of Williamsport; three sons, Jeffrey Mitchell, Robert Mitchell and James Mitchell, all of Hagerstown; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Dolores Rider, and a brother, Jack Mitchell.
Private services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport.
There will be no viewing; however, the family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St. in Williamsport, which will be open at 9 a.m.
The family requests the omission of flowers.
