Annie Michael
Annie Michael, 73, of 1019 Matthew Court, Hagerstown, died Sunday, May 21, 2000, at her home.
Born March 13, 1927, in Sykesville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Annie Michael.
She was associated with Washington County Human Development Council since 1986.
She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
She also was a member of Happy Go Lucky Bowling League and was in the Senior Program at Washington County Human Development Council.
She is survived by friends.
Services will be Thursday at 9 a.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Rev. David B. Kaplan will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Judy A. Moler
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Judy Ann Moler, 73, of Annapolis, and formerly of Charles Town, W.Va., died Saturday, May 20, 2000, at her home.
Born Sept. 2, 1926, in Florence, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Bruno and Maria Selica Paffi Morelli.
She was a homemaker.
She was of the Catholic faith.
She is survived by a son, Bruce Phillip Moler of Charles Town; two sisters, Andreina Fonteont of Mississippi and Marchella VanAldenne of Oregon; a brother, Marcello Morelli of Florence; five grandchildren; two-stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Sheila Wilt; and a sister, Rita Pellman.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home in Ranson, W.Va. The Rev. Dwane Casteel will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill cemetery in Charles Town.
Frances V. Moats
Frances Viola Moats, 73, of 112 Summer St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at Western Maryland Hospital Center.
Born Oct. 14, 1926, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late George Phillip Sr. and Agnes Viola Kendle Socks.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther James Moats Jr., on Jan. 10, 2000.
She was employed by Maryland Maid Kitchens for 10 years.
She is survived by two sons, Daniel E. Moats and Robert W. Socks, both of Hagerstown; two sisters, Geraldine Zeigler of Funkstown and Nancy Stroupe of Hagerstown; three brothers, George P. Socks Jr. of Fairplay, James E. Socks of Clear Spring and Raymond L. Socks of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and stepgrandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Thelma A. Mullineaux
BOONSBORO - Thelma A. Mullineaux, 90, of Reeders Memorial Home, and formerly of 17910 Bowie Mill Road in Derwood, Md., died Sunday, May 21, 2000, at the home.
Born March 11, 1910, in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Celia Turner Souder.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard Hedges Mull; and by her second husband, Leslie E. Mullineaux.
She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Redland, Md., and was involved in activities.
She is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline J. Wines of Hagerstown; a stepdaughter, Deborah Johnson of New Market, Md.; three brothers, Paul Souder of Buffalo, N.Y., Byron Souder of Rockville, Md. and Warren Souder of Garden Grove, Kan.; two grandsons; two stepgrandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sisters and brothers, Ivy Wilcox, Mae Dove, Ruby Cardoza, Virgil Souder, Winnie Larouche, Shirley Loomis, Armin Souder, Edith Falk and Wayne Souder; and a granddaughter.
Services will be Thursday at noon at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Redland. The Revs. Karis Graham and Craig Moorman will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday at 11 a.m. at the church.

Elvin D. Betts
HALFWAY - Elvin D. Betts, 84, of Halfway, died Monday, May 22, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Sept. 15, 1915, in Halfway, he was the son of the late Howard Raymond and Maude Catherine Houser Betts.
He was a 1933 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
He was employed by Bohman and Warne as a service technician, retiring in 1981.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a prisoner of war.
He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Williamsport, and served on the council.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hilda E. Griffin Betts; two daughters, Sandra B. Helm of Naples, Fla. and Judi A. Schultz of Titusville, Fla.; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Swope.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 35 W. Potomac St. in Williamsport. The Rev. W. Gregory Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport, with military services by Morris Frock Post 42 of Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St. in Williamsport, which will open at 9 a.m.
The family requests the omission of flowers.

Burton R. Hoffman
DeSOTO, Texas - Burton Richard Hoffman, 70, of 1436 Pinnacle Peak, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Monday, May 22, 2000, at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.
Born May 2, 1930, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Irwin F. Sr. and Mary Maisack Hoffman.
He was a 1948 graduate of Hagerstown High School. He attended Strayer College; and graduated in 1987 from Christ for the Nations Institute in Dallas and from Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas. In 1988, he earned a bachelor's degree in Pastoral Ministry and Evangelism.
He was president and owner of Hoffman Agency Inc. insurance company and real estate and auctioning firm. He was a former employee of Hamilton Pontiac, Cadillac, Nissan. He was employed by Circuit City Stores in Texas.
A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a licensed minister and member of Faith Chapel in Hagerstown. He attended Cross Roads of Life Assembly of God Church in Duncanville, Texas.
He was elected to Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
He was first elected a Washington County Commissioner in 1962 and served four terms.
He was a member of the Legislative Committee for the Maryland Association of County Officials, and was president in 1979. He was instrumental in developing the Washington County Parks Program.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, J. Patsy Ellen Hoffman; a son, Matthew Richard Hoffman of DeSoto; a sister, M. Phyllis Day of Savannah, Ga.; a brother, Irwin F. Hoffman Jr. of Chambersburg, Pa.; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North in Hagerstown. The Revs. Terry King and Larry Gamby will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
