Marilyn Annabell Smith, 57, of 201 Taylor St., Hagerstown, who died Sunday, May 28, 2000, is survived by four sons, Clarence V. Smith, Walter C. Smith, Michael A. Garner and Jerry L. Smith, all of Hagerstown.
Edward M. Shackelford
De BARY, Fla. - Edward M. "Buddy" Shackelford, 68, of De Bary, and formerly of Akron, Ohio, died Tuesday, May 23, 2000.
He was born in Hagerstown.
He retired from General Tire and Rubber Co. in 1985 after 28 years. He worked for Springfield schools as a bus driver for 18 years, retiring in 1986.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of VFW Post 8093.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Dunlop; a daughter, Terri Engel of Uniontown, Ohio; two sons, Mark Shackelford of Norton, Ohio and Darin Shackelford of Springfield Township, Ohio; four stepsons, David Dunlop, Dale Dunlop, Daryl Dunlop and Daniel Dunlop; two sisters, Lilly Grayson and Laura Stockslager, both of Sharpsburg; a brother, Albert Shackelford of Munroe Falls, Ohio; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, David Scott; five sisters, Pearl Frye, Viola Cassell, Kate Jone, Isabelle Dushing and Sarah Mauck; and five brothers, Robert Shackelford, William Shackelford, Clarence Shackelford, John Shackelford and Charley Shackelford.
Services were held Saturday, May 27, at 11 a.m. at Akron Springfield Assembly of God Church in Akron, Ohio. Pastor Mark Engel officiated. Burial with military services was held in Hillside Memorial Park.
The family received friends Friday, May 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale St. in Uniontown; and Saturday at 10 a.m. at the church.
Clifton H. Grove
BRIDGEVILLE, Del. - Clifton Harry Grove, 77, of Bridgeville, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000.
Born Jan. 19, 1923, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Harry and Ada Grove.
He was a member of Seaford Pipefitters and Welders Union 782.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth O. Grove; a stepdaughter, Norma Jean Wells of Greenville, N.C.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services and burial will be private.
Visitation was Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. at Fleischauer Funeral Home in Greenwood, Del.

Della P. Massey
SALISBURY, Md. - Della Powell Massey, 80, of Salisbury, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at Western Maryland Hospital Center in Hagerstown.
Born Feb. 20, 1920, in Powellville, Md., she was the daughter of the late John R. and Mary W. Brittingham Powell.
She and her husband owned and operated Strabane Manor produce and poultry farm in Willards, Md., for 50 years.
She attended Christ United Methodist Church in Salisbury, and Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in Willards.
She was a member of Happy Timers; and AARP.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Edwin Joseph Massey; a son, L. Bruce Massey of Hagerstown; three brothers, John R. Powell Jr. of Fruitland, Md., Billy Powell of Pittsville, Md. and Brownie Powell of Salisbury; nieces; nephews; great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lemuel P. Dryden and Polly P. Burton; and two brothers, W. Wilson Powell and Elton A. Powell.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Bounds Funeral Home, East Main Street in Salisbury. The Rev. Thomas W. Hurley will officiate. Burial will follow in Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Knud J. Helsing
WILLIAMSPORT - Dr. Knud Jensen Helsing, 88, of 16505 Virginia Ave. in Williamsport, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at his home.
Born May 1, 1912, in Center Junction, Iowa, he was the son of the late Oswald and Anna Christensen Helsing.
He received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Antioch College in 1939; and a Sc.D. degree in epidemiology from Johns Hopkins University in 1980.
He was employed by Westinghouse Corp., where his work resulted in numerous patents. He was director of engineering at Victor Products. He was employed most recently by Washington County Johns Hopkins Research Center, where, since 1970, he directed studies such as Clue I and II, among others. He taught epidemiology classes at Johns Hopkins University, and mentored graduate students. He retired in 1986. He was author or co-author of professional journal articles.
He was a member of Presbyterian Church in Hagerstown, served a deacon and an elder, and on committees.
He was a member and frequent speaker at The Torch Club; member of Samuel D. Sherwood Lodge; Melha Temple; Hagerstown Shrine Club; Massachusetts Professional Engineers; Hagerstown Professional Engineers; and Delta Omega Alpha Chapter of The Honorary Public Health Society.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Miriam Fairley Helsing; two daughters, Deborah Williams of Downers Grove, Ill. and Jane Helsing Eichenwald of Minneapolis, Minn.; a son, Steven Helsing of McAllen, Texas; six grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gunnar Helsing and Helge Helsing.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Presbyterian Church. The Rev. John W. Ailstock will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown.

Helen M. Warrenfeltz
PLEASANT WALK, Md. - Helen M. Warrenfeltz, 87, of Pleasant Walk, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.
Born Sept. 12, 1912, in Middlepoint, Md., she was the daughter of the late Levin T. and Trixie V. Delauter Lewis.
Her husband, Don B. Warrenfeltz, died in 1976.
She was a member of Grossnickle Church of the Brethren in Myersville, Md., and attended Broadfording Bible Brethren Church and Mountain View Baptist Church, both in Hagerstown.
She is survived by a daughter, Dolores H. Dillman of Myersville; a son, Richard A. Warrenfeltz of Myersville; a sister, Zelda Grossnickle of Myersville; a brother, Lawrence L. Lewis of Myersville; nine grandchildren; five great-granddaughters; six great-grandsons; two step-great-granddaughters; a step-great-grandson; and a step-great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Cecilia Flook, and three brothers, James Lewis, Wilbur Lewis and Clarence Lewis.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville. The Rev. Bill Clark, the Rev. William Garland, the Rev. William Freed and the Rev. William Wyand will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Walk United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Herbert L. Garver
CLEAR SPRING - Herbert "Lane" Garver, 81, of 13320 Gruber Road, formerly of 243 Landis Ave., Waynesboro, Pa., died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Nov. 20, 1918, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Samuel L. and Nellie Speck Garver.
His wife, Gloria M. Miller Garver, whom he married
Aug. 6, 1945, died Jan. 18, 1997.
He was a 1936 graduate of Waynesboro High School.
He was employed as a machinist at Landis Machine Co. in Waynesboro for more than 40 years, retiring in 1980.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro.
He was a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15, B.P.O. Elks Lodge 731 and Pen Mar Dance Club, all of Waynesboro.
He is survived by a daughter, Diane L. Wolfensberger of Clear Spring; one son, Larry S. Garver of Waynesboro; a sister, A. Lucille Long of Bradenton, Fla.; a brother, Joseph Garver of Williamsport; and three grandsons.
Memorial services will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 S. Church St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Richard A. Seaks will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
There will be no public viewing.
