Ruth J. Elliott
Ruth Joann Litton Elliott, 67, of 11 W. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 10, 1933, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late David W. Sr. and Mildred Ruth Lowe Litton.
She was employed with Adult Care of Washington County in Hagerstown.
She was a member of Mt. Zion Mennonite Church near Boonsboro.
She is survived by a daughter, Judy A. Elliott of Hagerstown; three sons, W. Gene Elliott and Roger M. Elliott, both of Hagerstown and Charles W. Elliott Sr. of Maugansville; a sister, M. Irene Litton of Carey, N.C.; three brothers, David W. Litton Jr. of Mercersburg, Pa., Arthur T. Litton of Clear Spring and Walter R. Litton of Arkansas, four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Russell W. Elliott.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Larry Lehman will officiate. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Adin H. Horst
Adin H. Horst, 91, a resident of Mennonite Old People's Home, 13436 Maugansville Road, Hagerstown, and formerly of near Leitersburg, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at the home.
Born Jan. 15, 1909, near Leitersburg, he was the son of the late Abraham G. and Susie Baer Horst.
He was a retired farmer.
He was a member of Miller's Mennonite Church, near Leitersburg.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Shank Horst Horst, whom he married
Aug. 21, 1930, a resident of Mennonite Old People's Home; four daughters, Lydia R. Rudolph of Greencastle, Pa., Iva M. Strite and Rhoda M. Martin, both of Hagerstown, and Anna C. Strite of Clear Spring; five sons, Laban A. Horst and Mervin C. Horst, both of Waynesboro, Pa., I. Chester Horst of Greencastle, Pa., Allen G. Horst of Alturas, Calif., and Enos L. Horst of Selinsgrove, Pa.; two sisters, Elva M. Horst and Mabel I. Horst, both of Maugansville; a brother, Lesher B. Horst of Hagerstown; 63 grandchildren; 200 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister and a brother.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Miller's Mennonite Church near Leitersburg. The Miller's Mennonite Church Ministry will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the church.
The family requests that flowers be omitted.

Lucile J. Mertz
Lucile Julia Mertz, 81, of 222 Alexander St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 14, 1918, in Highfield, Md., she was the daughter of the late Oscar M. Sr. and Nellie Stuller Smith.
She retired from Stoners Country Kitchen and previously was employed with Fairchild Cafeteria.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, The Willing Workers Sunday School class, The United Woman and The Golden Membership Club.
She was a member of West End Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Crist Preston Mertz Jr.; two daughters, Connie E. Hardy and Rosalie M. Ridenour, both of Hagerstown; a son, Donald L. Mertz Sr. of Hagerstown; three sisters, Violet Toms, Mildred Detrow and Margaret Crawford, all of Hagerstown; a brother, Oscar M. Smith Jr. of Boonsboro; eight grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Isabelle Smith.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Revs. Robert S. Barton and Susan Hallager will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

John A. Harshman
MIDDLETOWN, Md. - John A. "Jack" Harshman, 77, of Roy Shafer Road, and formerly of W. Water Street, Smithsburg, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa.
Born Dec. 15, 1922, in Beaver Creek, Md., he was the son of the late William and Phoebe Ford Harshman.
He retired in 1986 from C&P Telephone after 35 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II at the 15th General Hospital.
He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Chewsville, for 55 years serving as Sunday School teacher, treasurer and choir member.
He was a member of American Legion Post 10 Boonsboro, serving as chaplain, a member of Pioneers of C&P Telephone Company, volunteer for Commission on Aging for Washington County, served on Smithsburg Special Appeal Board, and Washington County Housing Association. He was a past member of Smithsburg Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Virginia Shaver Harshman; two sons, Kent A. Harshman of Palmyra, Pa., and Lynn A. Harshman of Middletown; a sister, Jean Harshman Meredith of Boonsboro; six grandchildren; a nephew; one great-niece and a great-nephew.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. The Rev. John W. Schildt will officiate. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery, Thurmont, Md.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Chris J. Trantules
Chris J. Trantules, 79, of 1037 Pennsylvania Ave., died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born June 8, 1920, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late John and Athena Sharkey Trantules.
He was a self-employed taxi driver. He previously owned and operated the Pine Room, the American Restaurant and the RainBow Room, all in Hagerstown.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served in World War II and in the African Theatre.
He was a member of Moose International, Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion and B.P.O. Eagles, Air 694.
He is survived by his wife, Belva L. Fishack Trantules; a daughter, Catherine Weaver of Hagerstown; a son, John Trantules of Bel Air, Md., and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Niki Czajka.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dennis Buck will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday 30 minutes prior to the services.
