Eleanor L. Hershberger
SMITHSBURG - Eleanor L. Hershberger, 74, of Crystal Falls Drive, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Oct. 10, 1925, in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of the late Mamie Rinker.
She retired from Johns Hopkins Hospital after 20 years of service.
She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 1936, Ladies Auxiliary AMVETS Post 10, Ladies Auxiliary Eagles Post 694, Ladies Auxiliary Elks 378 and Hagerstown Optimist Club, all of Hagerstown, Ladies Auxiliary Cascade Legion Post 239, Ladies Auxiliary Brunswick Moose Club and Cavetown Homemakers.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond H. Hershberger Jr.; three sons, Mike McMillan of Randallstown, Md., Fred McMillan of Cumberland and Ted McMillan of Baltimore; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Wertz.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. The Rev. Mark C. Mooney will officiate. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Jesse C. Smith
SMITHSBURG - Jesse C. Smith, 80, of Greensburg Road, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 24, 1919, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late John M. and Mary E. Culler Smith.
He was a 1938 graduate of Waynesboro High School.
He was employed by Mack Trucks, Hagerstown, retiring in 1982.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II.
He was a member of Waynesboro Bible Church.
He is survived by his wife, Fauvette W. "Peg" Toms Smith; a daughter, Linda K. Smith of Smithsburg; a son, Danny L. Smith of Smithsburg and a brother, Percy F. Smith of Putnam, Conn.
He was preceded in death by a son, John Morris Smith; two sisters, M. Elizabeth Smith and Joanna Parker; four brothers, James Smith, Mervin Smith, William Smith and John Smith.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Black Rock Bible Church, 9646 Crystal Falls Drive, Hagerstown. The Revs. Robert L. Fitz and Paul W. Heefner will officiate. Burial will be in Ringgold Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.

Audrey R. Albright
Audrey Ruth Albright, 77, of Colton Villa Nursing Home, and formerly of 11 W. Baltimore St., Potomac Towers, died Monday, June 5, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 6, 1923, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Ruth E. Rector Reynold.
She was a 1942 graduate of Hagerstown High School and attended Hagerstown Business College.
She was employed by Western Maryland Railroad as a railway clerk for 40 years, retiring 17 years ago.
She was a member of American Legion Morris Frock Post 42 Auxiliary and AARP. She was a past member of the Treble Clef Club.
She is survived by one brother, J. Thomas Reynold of DeBary, Fla.; one niece; and two great-nieces.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Edward H. Heim will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.

Frances L. Corwell
CLEAR SPRING - Frances Louise Corwell, 81, of 11836 Big Spring Road, died Sunday, June 4, 2000 at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 2, 1919, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Michael Ford and Sally Beachley Gower.
She was a 1937 graduate of Williamsport High School, and a 1941 graduate of Frostburg State Teachers College.
She taught at Pecktonville School, Wilson School in Conococheague, Williamsport Elementary School and retired from Clear Spring Elementary School.
She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Clear Spring.
She was a member of Maryland State Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Roy Jack Corwell; one daughter, Emily Louise Knode of Clear Spring; one son, Keith Gower Corwell of Hagerstown; two grandsons; eight nephews, and one niece.
She was preceded in death by one son, Roy Charles Corwell; one sister, Margaret Coakley; and one brother, William L. Gower.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. R. Terrence Foor will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul cemetery in Clear Spring.
The family will receive friends today at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m.

Jack D. Shufelt
Jack D. Shufelt, 76, of 1745 Edgewood Hill Circle, Hagerstown, died Monday, June 5, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 11, 1924, in Richmond, Va., he was the son of the late Clarence Jacob and Corrine Noel Callenberger Shufelt.
He was employed in the automotive business for 50 years, retiring from Younger Toyota, Mercedes in 1997.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
He was past commander Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion; past exalted ruler of B.P.O. Elks Lodge 778, Martinsburg, W.Va.; passe cheff de gare of 40 & 8; a member of Potomac Fish and Game Club and V.F.W. Post 1936.
He was president of the Tri-State Duckpin Bowling Association and vice president of the National Duckpin Bowling Congress and a member of the board of directors. He was inducted into the Washington County Sports Hall of Fame and the National Duckpin Congress Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Catherine R. Shufelt; a daughter, Carol S. McCardell of Falling Waters, W.Va.; a granddaughter, Denise H. Fagan of Boston; and a grandson, Thomas L. McCardell of Frederick, Md.
Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Daniel P. Staley will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
