Frank L. Simpson II
MYERSVILLE, Md. - Frank L. Simpson II, 74, of Baltimore National Pike, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at his home.
Born March 31, 1926, in Monroe, N.C., he was the son of the late Frank L. Sr. and Minnie Pratt Simpson.
A veteran the U.S. Marine Corps, he served in World War II and the Korean War.
He played with the Monroe, N.C., Red Sox.
He was a member of Myersville Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Estella G. Simpson; a daughter, Andrea Nordeck of Catonsville, Md.; two stepdaughters, Carol King of Westminster, Md. and Patricia Bowers of Catonsville; a brother, Walter Simpson of Monroe; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Frank L. Simpson III.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 24, at 10 a.m. at Myersville Baptist Church, U.S. 40, Myersville.

Ira R. Smith
KEYMAR, Md. - Ira Russell Smith, 81, of Keymar, died Monday, June 5, 2000, at Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 1, 1918, in Walkersville, Md., he was the son of the late John M. and Avie C. Staley Smith.
He worked the family dairy farm near Walkersville, Md. He was employed at Ox-Fiber Brush Co. for about 10 years.
He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Walkersville, volunteered for church activities and provided pumpkins for fall festivities.
He was an honorary member of New Midway Volunteer Fire Co.
He is survived by two sisters, Grace S. Smith and Ada Frances Smith, both of Keymar; six brothers, John H. Smith of Gaithersburg, Md., Paul B. Smith of Knoxville, Albert R. Smith, Ray C. Smith and Ralph E. Smith, all of Walkersville, and Lewis Staley Smith of Frederick; nieces; nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; great-great nieces and great-great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen V. Clem, Mary C. Flannigan and Amy M. Smith.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Ave., Walkersville. The Rev. Mark L. Foucart will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lillian E. Stagner
SMITHSBURG - Lillian Estelle Stagner, 74, of Smithsburg, and formerly of Charles Town, W.Va., died Monday, June 5, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 19, 1926, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Clara Hough Sowers.
Her husband, Irving W. "Mike" Stagner, died Sept. 2, 1986.
She retired from Powhatan Brass and Iron Works, Ranson, W.Va. She also was employed at Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 948, Charles Town.
She was a member of Murrill Hill United Methodist Church, Harpers Ferry, W.Va.
She was a member of Women of the Moose Chapter 1028 and Ladies Auxiliary Jackson-Perks American Legion Post 71, both of Charles Town.
She is survived by two daughters, Minnie Marie Turner of Kearneysville, W.Va. and Debra Louise Manago of Sicily, Italy; two sons, Raymond W. Stagner of Smithsburg and Calvin L. Stagner of Charles Town; a brother, Leon Sowers of Ranson; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Allen C. Stagner; six sisters, Lizzie Howell, May Summers, Katherine Ritenour, Margaret Mobley, Minnie Engle and Clara Armstrong; six brothers, Charles Sowers, Edward Sowers, Thomas Sowers, Garvin Sowers, Randolph Sowers and Robert Sowers.
Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. The Rev. Athen Burch will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Margaret F. McCardell
WILLIAMSPORT - Margaret F. McCardell, 91, of 16505 Virginia Ave., died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 7, 1908, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Leo D. and Catherine A. Collins Thompson.
Her husband, Russell E. McCardell, died in 1981.
She had worked for the federal government as a secretary in the Midwest for 42 years.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Halfway.
She is survived by a nephew, Robert Keller of Cape Coral, Fla.; and a cousin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. The Rev. Christopher P. Moore will be celebrant. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.
Margaret L. Hildebrand
Margaret Louise Hildebrand, 76, of Larkspur Lane, who died Saturday, June 3, 2000, is survived by a stepdaughter, Deborah Hildebrand Wilson of Virginia Beach, Va.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert E. Rubeck.
Marion E. Fish
WILLIAMSPORT - Marion Elwood Fish, 87, of 16505 Virginia Ave., died Monday, June 5, 2000, at Homewood Nursing Home in Williamsport.
Born Feb. 3, 1913, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the Lemuel Edward and Florence Gertrude Ward Fish.
He retired from R.D. McKee. He previously was employed by Victor Hosiery.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
He was a member of Pioneer League Bowling League. He had played baseball.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Annabelle Fish; a daughter, Monica A. Trace of Greencastle, Pa.; two grandchildren, David A. Trace of Richmond, Va., and Kathy S. Pepple of Greencastle; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Modena Moore and Dorothy Hess.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Edward H. Heim will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends Friday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the church.
