DONALD W. DURST
Donald Warren Durst, 55, Cowansville, Pa., died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Born April 24, 1949, in Meyersdale, Pa., he was a son of the late Lester and Colleen (Sowers) Durst. He was preceded in death by one brother, Aleck ?Ken? Durst.
He was a member of Springs Mennonite Church and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
He is survived by one daughter, Nicole Durst, Meyersdale; and one sister, Kathy Durst, Grantsville.
At his request, his body was cremated.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 11, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Steven Heatwole officiating.
Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, is in charge of arrangements.
EDITH A. SINES
Edith A. "Edie" Sines, 77, Martinsburg, W.Va., died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at City Hospital.
Born April 6, 1927, in Washington, D.C., she was a daughter of the late Leroy and Amy Green Schnopp. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald C. Sines.
She was retired from the GAO in Washington, D.C.
She is survived by three daughters, Jan Sisson, Potomac, Jackie Sines, Germantown, and Jeanne Sines, Charles Town, W.Va.; one sister, Norma Sines, Lisbon; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood, W.Va.
Friends will also be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, on Friday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. until noon. Following visitation, a private family graveside service will be held at Taylor Sines Family Cemetery, Oakland.
HELEN O. JOHNSON
Helen Humbird Offutt Johnson died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, after a short illness in Annapolis.
Mrs. Johnson was born on June 8, 1912, in Oakland. She was the daughter of William R. and Mary Eleanor (Humbird) Offutt. Mr. Offutt was a prominent western Maryland attorney, and served as state's attorney for Garrett County and as president of the Maryland State Bar Association. He was also president of the Garrett National Bank and a former mayor of Oakland.
Mrs. Johnson's maternal grandfather, Jacob Humbird, built railroads in both North and South America. Her paternal great-grandfather, Daniel Edwin Offutt, was prominent in banking, mining, lumbering, and the mercantile business in both western Maryland and West Virginia.
Mrs. Johnson was educated in the Garrett County public school system. She also attended Penn Hall Academy in Chambersburg, Pa., where she received an associate degree in commercial art.
Mrs. Johnson married William Howard Johnson, formerly of Hazelton, Pa., on Aug. 12, 1939. Mr. Johnson was a graduate of forestry of the Pennsylvania State University and was, at the time, camp forester of the Swallow Falls Civilian Conservation Corps Camp. In 1943, the couple moved to Cumberland, where Mr. Johnson served as district forester for the Maryland Department of Forests and Parks.
In 1960, the Johnsons moved to Severna Park when Mr. Johnson became assistant state forester. In 1963, he was appointed superintendent of the Maryland State Park Service. Mr. Johnson passed away in 1990.
Mrs. Johnson resided in Severna Park until her death. She was a member of Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church and the Cresap Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.
Surviving are two sons, William Offutt Johnson, Oakland, and Lynn Johnson, Severna Park; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the Garrett County Historical Society, 107 S. Second Street, Oakland, MD 21550.
A memorial service to celebrate her life was held on Sunday, Nov. 28, at Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, with the Rev. T. Patrick Kerr officiating.
Interment followed in the Oakland Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Barranco & Sons Funeral Home, Severna Park, and Durst Funeral Home, Oakland.
LORAIN W. BITTINGER
Lorain W. "Shorty" Bittinger, 53, Greenville Township, Pa., died Nov. 29, 2004, in Greenville Township.
Born Dec. 26, 1950, in McDonaldton, Pa., he was a son of the late Clifford and Lucretia (Butler) Bittinger. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Marvin; and two sisters, Hilda Butler and Katherine Felker.
He was an employee of Hunter Douglas, Cumberland.
He is survived by his wife, Noreen J. Ingrodi Brooks; four children, Loreen "Lorie" Engle and Wayne "Tink" Bittinger, both of Frostburg, Mary Garlitz, Meyersdale, and David "Biggy" Bittinger, Grantsville; nine grandchildren; and six siblings, Joseph of Meyersdale, Blair of Grantsville, Rusty of St. Paul, Elaine Durst of Frostburg, and Dwonda Kelly and Patricia Wilt, both of Meyersdale.
Friends were received at the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, where a service was held today, Thursday, Dec. 2, with the Rev. George Plants officiating.
Interment was in Berlin Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the William Rowe Price Funeral Home Inc., Meyersdale.
GERALD H. BARTRAM
Gerald Hatton Bartram, 70, Friendsville, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at his residence.
For the past 37 years, Jerry shared his weekday residence in Boyds and his weekends at Deep Creek Lake, where his heart was.
Born Feb. 12, 1934, in Wayne, W.Va., he was the son of the late Fred and Josephine (Hatton) Bartram.
Mr. Bartram was a radio technician and co-owner B&F Radio, Rockville. He was a member of the Elks and American Legion and was also a veteran of the Korean War. Jerry attended Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va.
He is survived by two sons, Glenn Allan Bartram and wife Deborah, Ashburn, Va., and Jack Landon, Edgewater; one daughter, Carol B. Lorson and husband Marc, Friendsville; one brother, Virgil Bartram, Baltimore; two sisters, Martha Sutter and husband Al, Daytona Beach, Fla., and Carolyn Dolensky and husband Paul, Clinton, Ohio; and one granddaughter, Blair Crisson.
At his request, Mr. Bartram was cremated.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 11, at noon at Newman Funeral Home, McHenry.

DAVID C. LAYMAN
David Carroll Layman, 53, Eglon, W.Va., died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Aug. 8, 1947, in Cumberland, he was a son of Sheridan William and Nina Corrine (Pifer) Layman.
He was employed as a coal miner. He was a member of the Maple Spring Church of the Brethren, UMWA Local #1289, Thomas Fairfax Lodge #174, and the Ougabus Society.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Lois Jeanette (Winters) Layman, whom he married Nov. 29, 1969; two sons, James Carroll Layman, Corinth, W.Va., and Aaron William Layman, Buffalo, N.Y.; one brother, Charles Leon Layman, Tallahassee, Fla.; and three grand-children.
Friends were received at the Maple Spring Church of the Brethren, where a service was conducted earlier today, April 19, with the Rev. J. Rogers Fike officiating. Interment was in the Eglon Cemetery.
The Hinkle Funeral Home, Thomas, W.Va., was in charge of arrangements.
LOUELLA G. COSNER
Louella G. Cosner, 90, Mt. Storm, W.Va., died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at her home.
Born May 6, 1910, in Keyser, she was the daughter of the late Wright and Blanche J. (Jewell) Davy. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lewis H. Cosner, in 1949, and one daughter, Gloria Cosner. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was a member of the Mt. Storm Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women's Group.
Survivors include four daughters, Maxine Ours, Fountain, W.Va., Janet Jones, Oakland, and Irene Hawk and Loretta Fishel, both of Mt. Storm; three sons, Rex Cosner and Eddie Cosner, both of Mt. Storm, and Robert Cosner, Baltimore; 25 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland. A service was conducted at the Mt. Storm Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, April 18, with the Rev. Paul Smith officiating. Interment was in the Idleman Cemetery, Mt. Storm.

PERRY F. VANSICKLE
Perry Franklin VanSickle, 90, Friendsville, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born July 7, 1910, in Friendsville, he was a son of the late Samuel and Ella (Uphold) VanSickle. He was also preceded in death by his wife, L. Lauretta (VanSickle) VanSickle, on April 6, 2000.
He was a member of the Keeler Glade Church of God and was a farmer.
Surviving are three sons, James E. VanSickle, Raymond C. VanSickle, and Lott VanSickle, all of Friendsville; four daughters, Janet L. Fike and Judith L. Frazee, both of Friendsville, Alice Catherine Hartzell, Boonsboro, and Mary Jane Yoder, Cumberland; two brothers, Jack VanSickle, Friendsville, and Joe VanSickle, Oakland; one half -brother, Ray VanSickle, Friendsville; one sister, Amanda Lowdermilk, Friendsville; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Friendsville, where a service was conducted Saturday, April 14, with the Rev. Philip Geoghan officiating. Interment was in the Blooming Rose Cemetery.

RICHARD FAZENBAKER
Richard "Dick" Fazenbaker, 76, Westernport, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born April 29, 1924, at Mill Run, he was a son of the late Ernest and Florence (Warnick) Fazenbaker. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Harry "Manny" Fazenbaker and Tommy Fazenbaker.
He was a retired road foreman with the State Highway Administration, with 49 years of service. He was the employee of the year in 1984 for the District 6 office, and was awarded a Governor's Citation on Sept. 30, 1996, for his many years of service.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Germany. He was vice president of the Upper Potomac Rod and Gun Club, and a member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Evelyn (Broadwater) Fazenbaker; two daughters, Janie Cole, and Donna MacDonald, both of Westernport; one son, Richard Fazenbaker, Westernport; one sister, Clara Madison, Elwood City, Pa.; six brothers, his twin Robert Fazenbaker, Coraopolis, Pa., Leroy Fazenbaker, Elwood City, Pa., Donald Fazenbaker, Pennsylvania, Junior Fazenbaker and Jack Fazenbaker, both of Westernport, and Vernon Fazenbaker, Backbone Mountain; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Friends were received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, where a service was conducted Tuesday, April 17, with the Rev. Gary Morris officiating. Interment was in the Philos Cemetery, Westernport.

LAWRENCE F. BEEMAN
Lawrence F. Beeman, 64, Oakland, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born May 20, 1936, in Vindex, he was a son of the late William T. and Margaret E. Beeman. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Virts.
Survivors include his wife, Beulah D. (Fike) Beeman; one daughter, Debra A. Abernathy, Oakland; three sons, Richard C. Beeman, Leonard L. Beeman, and Timothy W. Beeman, all of Oakland; one sister, Shirley Virts, Kitzmiller; three brothers, Rocky Beeman and Thomas Beeman, both of Vindex, and Carl Burton, Oakland; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

BETTY E. ARNOLD
Betty Eleanor Arnold, 76, Westernport, died Saturday, April 14, 2001.
Born July 26, 1924, in Bloomington, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Eva McDowell. She was also preceded in death on March 15, 1985, by her husband, Lester M. Arnold, whom she married June 26, 1941.
She was a graduate of Bruce High School, class of 1941, and was a member of the Piedmont Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she had directed Bible school and Sunday School.
She cooked for the Tri-Towns After-School Program at Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, W.Va,, for five years. She was a past president of the Pentecostal Holiness Church Women's Auxiliary, and was a board member of the Women's Ministries. She was a member of the Bloomington Home-makers Club for 29 years, where she was a past president. She received the Home-maker of the Year award in 1999.
Survivors include her children, Ronald L. Arnold, Burlington, W.Va., Rebecca J. Raines, Williamsburg, Va., and Betty Ann Aronhalt, Westernport, with whom she resided; two brothers, George T. McDowell Sr., Gallatin, Tenn., and Donald H. McDowell, Bloomington; two sisters, Edna S. "Dowell" Kooken and Eva C. (Murph) Rosier, both of Bloomington; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport. A service was conducted at the Piedmont Pentecostal Holiness Church on Wednesday, April 18, with the Rev. Thomas Brackett and her nephew, the Rev. George T. McDowell Jr., officiating. Interment was in the Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
STANLEY B. LEWIS
Stanley Burl "Porter" Lewis, 78, Oakland, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at his home.
Born April 23, 1922, in Shaffertown, W.Va., he was the son of the late Harry S. and Calvia (White) Lewis.
He was a U.S. Navy Seabees veteran of World War II. He retired from the Garrett County Roads Department.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia (Hinebaugh) Lewis; two daughters, Beverly Ann Lewis, Oakland, and Kathy Lynn Cuppett, Kingwood, W.Va.; one son, Lonnie B. Lewis, Crellin; two sisters, Oretha Kelley, Oakland, and Arlene Mahaffey, Columbus, Ohio; and four grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland. A service was conducted Tuesday, April 17, at the Crellin United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Neil Parsons and the Rev. Dennis Leatherman officiating. Interment was in Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.
MASON J. RODEHEAVER
Mason J. Rodeheaver, 84, Friendsville, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born Aug. 3, 1916, in Friendsville, he was a son of the late Andrew and Blanche (Matthews) Rodeheaver. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine (Wright) Rodeheaver, on Nov. 20, 1998; one son, Donald Rodeheaver; two brothers, Hobert Rodeheaver and James Rodeheaver; and four sisters, Mary Savage, Stella DeWitt, Mildred Cuppett, and Lucille DeWitt.
He was a lifelong farmer and worked in construction and for the Penn Line Service for a number of years. He was a member of the Oak Grove Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are three sons, Ronald Rodeheaver and Dwain Rodeheaver, both of McHenry, and Gerald Rodeheaver, Friendsville; one brother, Herman Rodeheaver, Friendsville; one sister, Agnes DeWitt, McHenry; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, McHenry. A service was conducted at the Oak Grove Church of the Brethren on Monday, April 16, with the Rev. Donald Matthews officiating. Interment was in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

CHARLES J. WAGONER
Charles Jackson "Jack" Wagoner, 74, Cumberland, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born July 6, 1926, in Springfield, W.Va., he was a son of the late Elwood Hughes and Grace (Runion) Wagoner. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Reba Roach and Josephine Pownell.
He owned and operated Ren Roy Flowers in Cumberland for 42 years. He was actively involved in the FTD and Southern Retail Trade Association.
He was a member of the Springfield Presbyterian Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include three brothers, E. Alex Wagoner, Martinsburg, W.Va., Loy A. Wagoner, Annapolis, and R. Dan Wagoner, New London, Conn.; and four sisters, Maxine Mahood, Paw Paw, W.Va., Mary Susan Williams, Romney, W.Va., Hannah Grace Sincell, Mtn. Lake Park, and Martha Ann McLoughlin, Stockton, Calif.
Friends were received at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, where a service was conducted Saturday, April 14, with the Rev. Jeffrey D. Lang officiating. Interment was in the family cemetery at the Wagoner farm, Ft. Ashby, W.Va.
