Sallie E. Rich
WALKERSVILLE, Md. - Sallie E. Rich, 76, formerly of Walkersville, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Mount Airy, Md.
Born Jan. 11, 1924, in Big Pool, she was the daughter of the late Richard Alvey and Cora Ellen Swandel Mills.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Orben Francis; and by her second husband, Dan Rich.
She worked at Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg, Md., as a certified nursing assistant for 29 years.
She is survived by one daughter, Gloria Jean Lease of Mount Airy; one son, Jerry Lee Francis of Washington; two sisters, Frances Virginia Hottinger of Germantown, Md., and Ina Mae Oden of Middlebrook, Md.; eight grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pleasant View Nursing Home, 4101 Baltimore National Pike, Mount Airy, MD 21771.

Ralph C. Brunner Sr.
WILLIAMSPORT - Ralph Charles Brunner Sr., 80, of 933 Maryland Ave., Hagerstown, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at Homewood Retirement Center in Williamsport.
Born March 2, 1920, in Cavetown, he was the son of the late Tyson and Elsie Victoria Smith Brunner.
His wife, Mary Ruth Soulders Brunner, died in 1986.
He retired from Mack Trucks after 22 years. He previously was employed by Fairchild Corp.
He was a Protestant.
He was a former member of Hagerstown Moose Lodge 212.
He is survived by one daughter, Robin Lori Diehl of Falling Waters, W.Va.; two sons, Ralph Charles Brunner Jr. of Williamsport, and Richard Allen Brunner Sr. of Falling Waters; one stepson, Thomas A. Grams of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Katherine Howard; and four brothers, Leon Brunner, Alvy Brunner, Robert Brunner and Tyson Brunner.
Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Brian Leiter will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
George J. Jones Jr.
George John Jones Jr., 69, of 11235 Marbern Road, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born in Litchfield, Ill., he was the son of the late George John Sr. and Merdice Jones.
He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1970; and, from the Maryland Correctional Institution in Hagerstown.
He was a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War.
He was a Protestant.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mabel Jean Lewis Jones; five daughters, Debra L. Hansbury of Hancock, Mindy R. Long of Clear Spring, Melinda A. Gross and Andrea M. Jones, both of Hagerstown, and Donna S. Kelly of Falling Waters, W.Va.; three sons, George J. Jones III of Eglon, W.Va., Curtis A. Jones and Christian Todd Jones, both of Hagerstown; and 22 grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St. in Williamsport. Pastor Doug Seborne will officiate.
Burial will be in Arlington National cemetery in Arlington, Va. at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing; however, the family will receive friends Saturday after the service until 3 p.m. at the funeral home, which will open at 11 a.m.

Scott S. Cross
BESSEMER CITY, N.C. - Scott S. Cross, 41, of 228 Chum Road, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C.
He was born and raised in Hagerstown.
He was the son of James M. Cross.
There will be no services.
Arrangements are by The Greene Funeral Home in Gastonia.
Brenda L. Bygrave
Brenda Lee "Big Girl" Bygrave, 39, of Hagerstown, died Saturday, March 25, 2000.
Born March 2, 1961, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of Tilman Holmes and Gloria Little.
She attended Washington public schools.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by four children, Tasha Homes, Rita Holmes, Dont Holmes and Billy Holmes; two sisters, Geraline Holmes and Althea Holmes; five brothers, Ardie Holmes, Freddie Holmes, Joseph Holmes, James Holmes and David Holmes; and her finance, Dwayne Stones.
A vigil will be held Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at 1009A Noland Drive, Court 2 in Hagerstown.

A memorial service for Jean Lane Goddard, 72, of Greenwich, who died Thursday, March 23, 2000, will be held Saturday, April 15, at 2 p.m. at St. Barnabas Church, 954 Lake Ave., Greenwich. The Rev. Richard Vanwely and the Rev. Worthington Campbell will officiate.

Carol A. Pentz Peacock Rowland, 52, of 240 Devonshire Road, Hagerstown, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 30, 1947, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Lee and Mary Clem Pentz.
She was former treasurer of Western Heights Middle School Band Boosters.
She attended Washington Square United Methodist Church.
She volunteered at Salvation Army.
She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Leonard Keith Rowland; four daughters, Pamela D. Peacock of Williamsport, Nicole D. Rowland and Jamie L. Rowland, both of Hagerstown, and Angela R. Rowland at home; two sons, Michael W. Peacock of Greencastle, Pa., and David B. Rowland at home; a sister, Marian Penny Long of Jacksonville, N.C.; a brother, Donald L. Pentz Sr. of Hagerstown; a grandson; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard A. Pentz.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North in Hagerstown. The Rev. Charles D. Long will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven cemetery in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
