Wilbur F. Hartman
Wilbur F. Hartman, 76, a resident of Avalon Manor, 14014 Marsh Pike, Hagerstown, and formerly of 241 W. North St., Waynesboro, Pa., died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Avalon Manor.
Born April 14, 1923, in Quincy, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles B. and Martha Grace Wagaman Hartman.
Prior to the military, he worked at Frick Co., Waynesboro and after his discharge, he returned there to work as a sheet metal apprentice, and later became foreman of the sheet metal shop. Prior to his retirement in 1984, he was the foreman of the fabrication shop.
He served with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II, from February 1943 to Dec. 12, 1945, serving in the Pacific.
He was a member of AMVETS Post 172, Fairfield, Pa.
He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Hollinger Hartman, whom he married
Oct. 15, 1950; three daughters, Betsy J. Smith of Chambersburg, Gail J. Kinna and Nancy J. Kaiser, both of Waynesboro; a son, Jerry L. Hartman of Yucaipa, Calif.; four grandchildren; two sisters, Emma Rook and Martha Hartman, both of Quincy; a brother, John Hartman of Mont Alto, Pa.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Hartman and Eleanor Klinger; three brothers, Samuel Hartman, Benjamin Hartman and Clarence Hartman; and a half-brother, Norman Shockey.
Services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Revs. Ray Kipe and Dwan N. Newsome will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Quincy.
Military graveside services will be conducted by Charles M. Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg.

Frieda Grote
Frieda Grote, 90, a resident of Ravenwood Lutheran Village Assisted Living, 1158 Luther Drive, Hagerstown, died Saturday, April 8, 2000, at the center.
Born Aug. 9, 1909, in Hanover, Germany, she was the daughter of the late William and Anna Keidel.
Her husband, William Grote, died Jan. 29, 1988.
She was retired as a secretary and treasurer of Frazier Precision Instrument, Hagerstown.
She was a life member of Zion Lutheran Church, Tacoma Park, Md.
She was a member of Arminius Social Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Inga E. Grote of Hagerstown, and Elaine C. Scrivener of Smithsburg; two granddaughters, Virginia Scrivener of Funkstown and Christina Scrivener of Baltimore; two grandsons, William Scrivener of Hagerstown and John Scrivener of Smithsburg; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Church, 64 S. Main St., Boonsboro. The Rev. Joseph I. Donovan III will officiate. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Parklawn Cemetery, Rockville, Md.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.

Janice M. Mongan
Janice Marie Mongan, 66, of 2 Broadway, Hagerstown, died Saturday, April 8, 2000, at her home.
Born March 6, 1934, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Paul Edward and Mabel Catherine McCauley Mongan.
She was lay missionary for Jehovah's Witnesses of Hagerstown, for 50 years.
She is survived by four brothers, Paul I. Mongan, David R. Mongan, Robert T. Mongan and Thomas L. Mongan, all of Hagerstown.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene E. Mongan.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Minister William E. Allen will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
George C. Pearson
George C. Pearson, 86, of Elizabeth Court, 55 E. Washington St., Hagerstown, died Friday, April 7, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 29, 1913, in Harrisburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Walter I. and Lurhea Conner Pearson.
He was retired from Harry Kahn & Associates, as a proofreader and had previously worked at Fairchild Aircraft.
He was a member of Ottertbein United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Irby Pearson; a daughter, Patricia A. Greene of Cincinnati; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
John W. Crout
MT. AIRY, Md. - John Wilbur Crout, 70, of Mt. Airy, died Friday, April 7, 2000, at his home.
Born Sept. 11, 1929, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late John Henry and Kathryn Josephine Freeze Crout.
He was a retired state trooper and served out of Westminster Barrack for 24 years.
He was a member and past commander of VFW Post 10076, a member of American Legion Post 191, both of Mt. Airy, Maryland State Police Alumni association, Old Timers of The Westminster Maryland State Police, Firehouse 5+7 Club, Mt. Airy 55+ Club, Mt. Airy Senior Center Coffee Clatch and Roy Rogers Coffee Clatch.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Lee Baker Crout; two daughters, Robin Kark of Martinsburg, W.Va. and Terri Jo Harshman of New Windsor; a stepson, Glenn Riley of South Bay Australia; a sister, Joan Hodgson; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; three step-grandsons; and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by a stepson, James F. Riley Jr.
Funeral services will be held today at 10:30 a.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

Grafton W. Twigg
BOONSBORO - Grafton Willard "Joe" Twigg, 67, of 8412 Tusings Way, died Saturday, April 8, 2000, at Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born July 28, 1932, he was the son of the late Henry B. and Frances Yost Twigg.
He retired in 1988 from Statton Furniture Manufacturing Company, Hagerstown.
He served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of AARP.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Margaret A. Parlett Twigg; two daughters, Lori L. Turner of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and Brenda Twigg of Fairplay; two sons, Stephan Twigg of Boonsboro and David M. Twigg of Hagerstown; a sister, Bessie Aubcheon of St. Louis, Mo.; two brothers, Paul Twigg of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and James L. Twigg of Paw Paw, W.Va.; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Mickey Twigg and Randy Twigg.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Boonsboro Cemetery, Boonsboro. The Rev. Robert Barnes will officiate.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, which will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
