Clifford M. Izer
Clifford Monroe Izer, 79, of Hagerstown, died Monday, April, 10, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Nov. 13, 1920, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Harry E. and Bertha Bumgardner Izer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Catherine Izer, in 1993.
He was employed by Jamison Door Co., retiring after 39 years. He was a self-employed general contractor.
He served in the Marine Corps during World War II. He was awarded a Purple Heart.
He was a member of Washington Square United Methodist Church.
He was a member of Moose Lodge; BPO Elks 378; American Legion Morris Frock Post 42; and Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Kinslow of Lexington, Ky.; a son, Clifford M. Izer Jr. of Atlanta; two sisters; four brothers; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sylvia Knepper.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. The Rev. A. Paul Harne will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Helen E. Lyon
Helen E. Lyon, 92, of 815 Oak Hill Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, April 11, 2000, at her home.
Born Dec. 1, 1907, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Louis Yale and Ella Galvin Lyon.
She was a graduate of Washington County High School; University of Pennsylvania; and Hagerstown Business College.
She was employed by the city of Hagerstown as secretary to Mayor Sweeney and the park commissioner and superintendent, Richard Wilson, of the water board.
She was a member of Congregation B'nai Abraham.
She was treasurer of Civic Music Association; and was active in charitable associations.
She was a member of AARP.
She is survived by two nieces, Dr. Elyse S. Fleming of Rancho Mirage, Calif. and Jane Lipman of Tesque, N.M.; a great-nephew and a great-great-niece.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Evanora L. Schwartz and Elizabeth L. Lipman; and a brother, Milton H. Lyon.
Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St. in Hagerstown. Rabbi Janice Garfunkle will officiate. Burial will be in Hebrew Fellowship cemetery in Baltimore.
There will be no visitation.

Martin J. Urner
WILLIAMSPORT - Martin Jonas Urner, 96, of 16505 Virginia Ave., formerly of 629 Preston Road in Hagerstown, died Tuesday, April 11, 2000, at Homewood Nursing Center in Williamsport.
Born Nov. 16, 1903, in Frederick, Md., he was the son of the late Judge Hammond Urner and Mary Lavinia Floyd Urner.
He was a 1921 graduate of Frederick Boys High School, and a 1925 graduate of Johns Hopkins University School of Engineering with a degree in electrical engineering.
He began his career with Potomac Edison Co. as an electrician's helper and held several positions until 1961, when he was elected vice president in charge of engineering and power production. He served as a member of Allegheny Power System Facilities Planning Committee until his retirement in 1968.
He was a member of Maryland National Guard from 1926 to 1927.
He was a member and elder of The Presbyterian Church of Hagerstown.
He was a member of Tall Beta Pi Electrical Society, honorary Engineering Fraternity and Phi Gamma Delta, Washington County Historical Society, American Institute of Electrical Engineers, American Society of Arms Collectors, Cumberland Valley Field Trial Club, Fountain Head Country Club, Assembly Club, National Rifle Association and was chairman of Budget and Admissions Committee of United Fund.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy Jolliffe Urner; one daughter, Jolly Urner of Pasadena, Calif.; one son, John Hammond Urner of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Urner and Joseph Urner.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. John W. Ailstock and the Rev. J. Russell Butcher will officiate. Private burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery in Frederick.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Frances A. Atkins
SYKESVILLE, Md. - Frances Amelia Atkins, 87, of Sykesville, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore.
Born Nov. 30, 1912, in Martinsburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Joseph Dorsey and Maude Estelle Matthews Atkins.
She had been a bookkeeper for the Maryland State Police; and for Henryton State Hospital and Springfield Hospital, both in Maryland.
She is survived by three cousins, Ruth Veverka of New York, Alfred H. Tonry of Martinsburg and J. Richard Tonry of Pennsylvania.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Rosedale Cemetery. The Rev. James D. Riley Jr. will officiate.

Mary C. Hoch
BALTIMORE - Mary Conrad Hoch, 97, of Baltimore, and formerly of Essex, Md., died Tuesday, April 11, 2000, at Wesley Home.
Born Jan. 21, 1903, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Ester Sinn Conrad.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin L. Hoch Sr.
She was an accomplished musician.
She was a member of Essex United Methodist Church.
She had played the organ for weddings and funerals for 40 different churches.
She had been the organist for the Eastern Star; and Wesley Home for church services.
She is survived by a sister, Charlotte E. Boyers of Hagerstown; a brother, Charles C. Conrad of Hagerstown; a granddaughter, Elsie Lee Dannettel; and great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Conrad O. Hoch and Edwin L. Hoch Jr.; a sister, Louella Conrad; and four brothers, Homer Conrad, John Conrad, Irvine Conrad and Benjamin Conrad.
Graveside services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. with a service at 8 p.m. at Connelly Funeral Home of Essex, 300 Mace Ave. in Baltimore.
