Robert P. Clark
CLEAR SPRING - Robert Palmer Clark, 77, of 14516 Mercersburg Road, died Friday, April 14, 2000, at his home.
Born June 24, 1922, in Leitersburg, he was the son of the late Jesse P. and Nora Swailes Clark.
He was employed by Western Maryland Railroad, retiring in 1983 after 41 years.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.
He was a Protestant.
He was a member of Western Maryland Railroaders Old Timers Club; Joseph C. Herbert American Legion Post 222 of Clear Spring; Last Man's Club; Harry Lackhove Post 517 American Legion of Mercersburg, Pa.; VFW Post 6241 of Mercersburg; Williamsport Red Men Tribe 84; Mercersburg Moose Lodge 1790; and Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 694 of Hagerstown.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rita Mae Faith Clark of Clear Spring; two daughters, Bonnie M. Forsyth of Clear Spring and Sue E. Pine of Mercersburg; two sisters, Ruth Kendall of Chambersburg, Pa., and Carrie Starliper of Mercersburg; a brother, Lewis Clark of Inwood, W.Va.; a granddaughter; a grandson; a great-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Mount Tabor Lutheran Church. The Rev. Mary Amundson will officiate. Burial will be in Little Rose Hill cemetery in Clear Spring with military honors conducted by members of Joseph C. Herbert American Legion Post 222.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike in Clear Spring and Monday at 1 p.m. at the church. A memorial service will be conducted Sunday at the funeral home by members of Mercersburg Moose Lodge 1790.
Harry M. Daley
Harry Martin Daley, 88, of 14725 Daley Road, Hagerstown, died Friday, April 14, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Dec. 15, 1911, in Coseytown, Pa., he was the son of the late Angle M. Sr. and Rachael Myers Daley.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Garnetta Mildred Smith Daley, in February 2000. They were married
April 21, 1934.
He attended Maugansville Schools.
He was first employed by Hagerstown Shoe Factory for a number of years. Prior to retiring in 1973, he and his brother owned and operated Daley's Floor Sanding of Hagerstown for 25 years.
He was a member of Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship in Hagerstown.
He is survived by a daughter, Arlene F. Whisner of Hagerstown; two sons, Donald L. Daley of Greencastle, Pa. and Ronald A. Daley of Hagerstown; five sisters, Pearl Dillow of Indiana, Alice Wise, Edna Roher, Ida Showe and Catherine Mickey, all of Hagerstown, two brothers, Irvin R. Daley and Charles H. Daley, both of Hagerstown; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Cecelia Turner and Anna Cianelli; five brothers, Lee Daley, Daniel Ross Daley, Angle M. Daley Jr., Luther Daley and Preston Daley; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter.
Graveside services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Hill United Brethren Church cemetery in Coseytown, Pa. Pastor Leon R. Yoder will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill United Brethren Church cemetery in Coseytown.
There will be no public viewing or visitation.

Shirley B. Nye
Shirley Birch Nye, 77, of 533 Maryland Ave., Hagerstown, died Friday, April 14, 2000, at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.
Born Dec. 24, 1922, in Del Rio, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Birch and Ethel Wooten Major.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald D. Nye, in 1989.
She was a 1942 graduate of Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in El Paso, Texas.
She was employed by Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va., retiring in 1982.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She was a member of National Association of Federal Employees, past president of West Virginia Nurses Association, and member of the Hotel Dieu Alumni Association and American Legion Funkstown Post 211 Auxiliary.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary D. Nye of Hagerstown; four sons, J. Michael Nye and Stephen D. Nye, both of Hagerstown, Gerald G. Nye of Laurel, Md., and Lawrence E. Nye of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; a sister, Allen Ann Mitchell of El Paso; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. Monsignor Robert S. Passarelli will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Ruth N. Hankey Murphy
Ruth N. Hankey Murphy of Hagerstown died Friday, April 14, 2000, at the home of her niece, Sandra Hankey Green at 13220 Glendale Drive.
Born in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William Lamar and Lillie Mae Lee Hankey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Edgar "Pat" Murphy, in 1985.
She was a 1929 graduate of Hagerstown High School, where she served as president of her class in her sophomore and junior years. She attended Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Va.
She and her husband owned and operated Murphy Dry Cleaners for 39 years.
She was a member of Zion Reformed and Evangelical United Church of Christ, where she was a member of Service Workers and Altar Guild. She also served as co-chairman of Flower Committee and co-chairman of Communion Committee.
She is survived by two brothers, Richard Brennamen Hankey of Phoenix and Samuel Thomas Hankey of Hagerstown; five nieces; two nephews; seven great-nieces; nine great-nephews; nine great-great-nieces; and 10 great-great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister' four brothers and a niece.
Services will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Zion Reformed Church, 201 N. Potomac St. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Harold E. Posey will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.

George O. McMillen
George Oscar McMillen, 82, of 922 Summit Ave., Hagerstown, died Friday, April 14, 2000, at his home.
Born June 1, 1917, in Hopkins, Mo., he was the son of the late John and Ida McMillen.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Elaine Lyon McMillen.
He retired from The Hecht Co. in Baltimore.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army as a sergeant.
He was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Baltimore.
He was a member of American Legion of Baltimore and Masonic Lodge of Baltimore.
He is survived by his second wife, Marie McMillen; a daughter, Susan Baechtel of Hagerstown; two sisters, Mary Allenby of Oregon and Christina Campbell of Arizona; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Matilda and Ellen, and a brother, Harry.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Wesley E. Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Druid Ridge cemetery in Pikesville, Md.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
