Ruth L. Pike
Ruth L. Pike, 73, of 11 W. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, died Monday, March 20, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 8, 1927, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late William L. and Susie M. Fischer Weaver.
She retired from Dorby Manufacturing Co. as a seamstress.
She was a member of St. James Brethren Church, St. James.
She was a member of Break-A-Way of Potomac Towers.
She is survived by two daughters, Sue Ann Jordan of Smithsburg and Doris Jean Florek of Waynesboro, Pa.; a brother, Abner L. Weaver of Warfordsburg, Pa.; seven grandsons; nine great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and caregiver Debbie Snyder of Hagerstown.
Services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Brian H. Moore will officiate.
Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service.

Esther E. Young
Esther Elizabeth Young, 57, of 10804 Clinton Ave., Hagerstown, died Saturday, March 18, 2000, at her home.
Born June 12, 1942, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur Roy and Vada Viola Carbaugh Saunders.
She was employed by Certain-Teed Products Corp.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church of Christ in Clear Spring.
She was a member of Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 89 of Hagerstown.
She is survived by three daughters, Melissa May Mongan of Warfordsburg, Pa., Rose Ann Mills of Clear Spring and Sharon McKinney of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four sons, Kenneth Young Jr. of Littlestown, Pa., Robert Lee Ayers Jr., at home, David Benfield of Middletown, Md., and Michael Benfield of Calhoun, Ga.; eight sisters, Mary Bigler of Hagerstown, Ethel Clevenger of Mercersburg, Pa., Anna Seif of Fort Meade, Md., Margaret Groff of Las Vegas, Mabel Shipley of Artemas, Pa., Betty Middlekauf of Clear Spring, Shirley Davis of Chambersburg, Pa., and Zelda Marie Lynch of Hancock; a brother, Roy Saunders of Hagerstown; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a special friend and caregiver, Tom Detrick of Hagerstown.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Saunders.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Richard P. Yates will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Dolores C. Payne
JEFFERSON, Md. - Dolores Costella Payne, 67, of 3867E Jefferson Pike, died Sunday, March 19, 2000, at Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital.
Born July 26, 1932, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Goldie Shoemaker Chrissinger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall T. Payne.
She was a member of Brownsville Church of the Brethren, Brownsville, Md.
She is survived by a daughter, Karen Lerch of Brunswick, Md.; two sons, Kevin M. Payne of Frederick and Brian K. Payne of Hagerstown; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by foster parents John and Nina Kaetzel.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

GREENBELT, Md. - Gertrude Elizabeth Law, 83, of Greenbelt, died Sunday, March 19, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 27, 1916, in Brentwood, Md., she was the daughter of the late Leslie L. and Melissa J. Rice Rowe.
She retired from NASA Goddard in Greenbelt, Md.
She was a member of Glen Dale Methodist Church, Glen Dale, Md.
She was a member of NASA Goddard Retirees Association; AARP; American Legion Auxiliary Greenbelt Post 136; Women's Club of College Park and Maryland Senior Olympics.
She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth J. Law Wiggins of Murrels Inlet, S.C.; two sons, Preston E. Law Jr. of Hagerstown and Thomas L. Law of Smithsburg; three sisters, Norma Rowe Carpenter of Davidsonville, Md., Maxine Rowe Rajkovick of Riverside, Calif., and Dora Rowe Digby of Lake Worth, Fla.; a brother, Marvin Rowe of Fallbrook, Calif.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. The Rev. Will McCall will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. in Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Richard M. Morganthall Jr.
BRADENTON, Fla. - Richard McClellen Morganthall Jr., 72, of 4798 Independence Drive, died Friday, March 17, 2000, at his home.
Born Jan. 29, 1928, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Richard Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Morganthall.
His first wife, Marion E. Morganthall, died in 1994.
He was employed with General Acceptance Corp., Allentown, Pa., for 25 years, and then at Montgomery Tire in Bethesda, Md.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
He was a member of B.P.O. Elks 378 and American Legion. Morris Frock Post 42.
He is survived by his second wife, Belva Jean Morganthall; two daughters, Donna L. Resh of Allentown, Pa., and Denise Morganthall-Malaska of Slatington, Pa. and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Patrick Pierce will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Samuel J. Wandless Sr.
FLINTSTONE, Md. -Samuel Jrman Wandless Sr., 60, of Route 2, died Saturday, March 18, 2000, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born July 13, 1939, in Staunton, Va., he was the son of the late Fred Wandless and Anna Mae Kale Wandless Hull.
He retired in 1998 from The Woods Resort, Hedgesville, W.Va., as a groundskeeper.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Anna Lee Shoemaker Wandless; three daughters, Anna VanGosen and Teresa Hendershot, both of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Rita Lynn Poffenberger of Hancock; three sons, Samuel J. Wandless Jr. of Berkeley Springs, Arnold R. Wandless of Warfordsburg, Pa., and Freddie F. Wandless of Flintstone; a sister, Eileen McCullough of Falling Waters, W.Va.; a brother, Freddie L. Wandless of Hancock and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. Henry L. Fisher will officiate. Burial will be in Mahnes Chapel Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open from 3 to 9 p.m.
