Helen J. Souders
GLENDALE, Ariz. - Helen Jean Souders, 70, of 4524 N. Christy Drive, died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at John C. Lincoln Hospital North Mountain in Phoenix.
Born Sept. 2, 1929, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Howell and Helen Munson Suman.
She was a 1947 graduate of Hagerstown High School; and attended Hagerstown Business College.
She was employed by Pangborn Corporation; Victor Products; and retired from Lasher-Cowie Insurance Agency, and Kemper Insurance as a secretarial supervisor, in 1992.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.
She is survived by her husband, Donald L. Souders; three sons, Michael L. Souders and Stuart C. Souders, both of Glendale and Steven H. Souders of Hagerstown; and a brother, Skip Suman of Jacksonville, Fla.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert C. Lehman will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Leo G. Haupt Sr.
Leo George Haupt Sr., 84, of 21105 Mount Aetna Road, Hagerstown, died Friday, March 17, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 29, 1915, in Myersville, Md., he was the son of the late George Ellisworth and Edna Fay Itnyre Haupt.
He retired in 1977 from Potomac Edison Company after 33 years of service.
He was a member of Mount Lena United Methodist Church.
He was a member of Quarter Century Club of Potomac Edison.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl Elizabeth Martz Haupt, whom he married
Aug. 6, 1939; a daughter, Kathy Marie Haupt of Hagerstown; a son, Leo George Haupt Jr. of Hagerstown; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Doyle of Boonsboro; three brothers, Woodrow James Haupt, Otho Kenneth Cecil Haupt and Elvin Lawson Haupt, all of Boonsboro; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Builah May Haupt, Julia Ellen Lum, Stella Kathleen Detrow, Inez Fay Hurley and Edna Lorene Haupt; and a brother, Carlton E. Haupt.
Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. The Rev. Elza Hurst will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will open at 9 a.m.
Edward W. Grayson
LANHAM, Md. - Edward W. "Ned" Grayson, 84, of Lanham and formerly of Sharpsburg, died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, in Lanham of a heart attack.
He was born Aug. 15, 1915, in Sharpsburg.
He retired from Fairchild Aircraft as a machinist.
He was a member of Moose Lodge of Lanham; and Masonic Lodge of Mount Herman, Md.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia D. Grayson; a daughter, Patsy J. Grayson; two sisters, Ellen Keyfauer of Sharpsburg and Dorothy Catterton of Reston, Md.; and a nephew.
Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Road in Bowie, Md.
Burial will be today at 1:45 p.m. at Mountain View cemetery in Sharpsburg.
Hazel I. Bitner
Hazel Irene Bitner, 60, of 14104 Nisewander Road, Hagerstown, died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at Maryland University Hospital in Baltimore.
Born Nov. 7, 1939, in Brown's Mill, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Melvin C. and Nettie Viola Ketzel Gordon.
She was a member of Mount Calvary Church of God in Clear Spring.
She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Harold Benjamin Bitner; two daughters, Linda L. Drury of Maugansville and Betty I. Rhodes of McConnellsburg, Pa.; three sons, Albert L. Carbaugh and George F. Carbaugh, both of Hagerstown and Robert L. Carbaugh of Dayton, Texas; two sisters, Fannie Mae Rouzer and Helen Carpenter, both of Hagerstown; four brothers, Charles Gordon, Glen Gordon and George Gordon, all of Hagerstown and Ray Gordon of Houston; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Gordon.
Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North in Hagerstown. The Rev. Andrew V. Stevens will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill cemetery in Greencastle, Pa.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Virginia C. Baer
SMITHSBURG - Virginia Catherine Baer, 74, of Route 3 Leather Road, died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at Colton Villa Nursing Center in Hagerstown.
Born April 29, 1925, in Middlepoint, Md., she was the daughter of the late Ray Claude and Icie Rose Blickenstaff Cartee.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph M. Baer, in 1970.
She was employed by Hagerstown Shoe Company.
She was a member of Grossnickle Church of the Brethren in Myersville, Md.
She is survived by a daughter, Rose M. Black of Boonsboro; a sister, Ellen Bowman of Smithsburg; a brother, Paul R. Cartee of Hagerstown; a grandson; and two great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Jean Miller.
Services will be Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg. Pastor Bill Clark will officiate. Burial will be in Grossnickle Church of the Brethren cemetery in Myersville.

Marshall J. Trail
HANCOCK - Marshall J. Trail, 93, of White Oak Ridge, died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at Colton Villa Nursing Home in Hagerstown.
Born May 29, 1906, in Belle Grove, Md., he was the son of the late William Nathan and Helen Mae Norris Trail.
He retired from Hepburn Orchards of Hancock.
He was a member of Gospel Light Tabernacle in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Irene Clingerman Trail; two daughters, Velma Crouse of Big Cove Tannery, Pa. and Miriam Stachowski of Clear Spring; four sons, Allen Clingerman and Merle Trail Sr., both of Hancock, Marshall Trail Jr. of Chambersburg, Pa. and David Trail of Warfordsburg, Pa.; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Trail; a sister, Emma Kennedy; and four brothers, Wilbur Trail, Russell Trail, John Trail and Lloyd Trail.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Gospel Light Tabernacle, 120 Williams St. in Berkeley Springs. The Revs. Russell Cheek and Ronald Lynch will officiate. Burial will be in Piney Plains United Methodist cemetery in Little Orleans, Md.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St. in Hancock, which will open at 5 p.m. Visitation also will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the church.
