ERNEST R. BENNETT
Ernest R. Bennett, 88, Baltimore, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at the Perring Parkway Nursing Center, Baltimore.
He was born in Baltimore, and attended City College, graduating in 1931. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater.
He was a plant protection chief for Western Electric Company, where he had been employed for 37 years, retiring in 1978. He served as the director of that company's pistol team for several years.
For over 50 years, he was a member of the American Legion, Parkville Post, and the Masons, Waverly Lodge. He was a member of the Overlea Methodist Church, Baltimore.
Survivors include his wife, Julia Ann (Aronhalt) Bennett, originally of Oakland; and a daughter, Darden Ann Bennett, Baltimore.
A memorial service was held earlier today, Thursday, at the Lassahn Funeral Home, Baltimore, with the Rev. Samuel Moore officiating.
JAMES L. FITZWATER
James Luther Fitzwater, 70, Swanton, died Monday, July 23, 2001, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born July 27, 1930, he was a son of Mildred (Riley) Fitzwater, Swanton, and the late Arthur G. Fitzwater Sr. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur G. Fitzwater Jr. and Doug Riley.
He was a field representative in the dairy industry, and a member of Victory Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Wilda (Schmidt) Fitzwater; one son, Chris Fitzwater, Oakland; three daughters, Dianna Breeden, Culpepper, Va., Cindy Wagner, Swanton, and Jan Wagner, York, S.C.; three sisters, Helen Friend, Pallisades, Colo., Eileen Custer, Swanton, and Ada Jane VanHorn, Waldorf; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was conducted today, Thursday, with the Rev. Doug Sehorne officiating. Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Swanton.

CHARLES E. DAY
Charles E. Day, 83, Cumberland, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at the Allegany County Nursing Home.
Born December 9, 1917, in Oakland, he was a son of the late Charles and Lillian (Pysell) Day. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Bittner) Day, and several brothers and sisters.
He was employed with the City of Cumberland Waste and Treatment Department, and was a member of the Melvin United Methodist Church.
Surviving is one brother, Gilbert Day, Oakland.
A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, July 28, at 1 p.m. at the Davis Memorial Cemetery.

MARY H. MILLER
Mary H. Miller, 89, Gormania, W.Va., died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born June 30, 1912, in Bayard, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Molly (Minnick) Miller.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Methodist Women, as well as the Grant County Homemakers.
Survivors include one daughter, Elsie V. Stemple, Aurora, W.Va.; one son, Rodney Leroy Miller, Winchester, Va.; a foster daughter, Mary Rush, Oakland; one sister, Edith Hickey, Keyser, W.Va.; three grand-children; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, 32 S. Second Street, Oakland, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. A service will be conducted at the Oak Park Church of the Brethren on Saturday, July 28, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Mel Menker officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Bayard Cemetery.
RAYMOND E. STEYER
Raymond E. Steyer, 83, Oakland, died Saturday, July 7, 2001, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born July 17, 1917, in Ryan's Glade, he was the son of the late William H. and Odessa (Harvey) Steyer. He was also preceded in death by one son, Lawrence Steyer.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine R. (Harvey) Steyer; one son, William S. Steyer, Oakland; one sister, Dorothy Frazee, Oakland; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Jared G. "Jerry" Paugh, 62, Elk Garden, W.Va., died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born in Barnum, W.Va., on Oct. 13, 1938, he was a son of Lloyd "Pap" and Beatrice "Tag" (Bray) Paugh, Barnum.
He was a member of the United Mine Workers.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Ellen Elaine (Paugh) Paugh; three daughters, Margie Reel, Elk Garden, Mischele Ervin, Burlington, W.Va., and Marsha Carpenter, Elk Garden; five sons, Darius "Moe" Paugh, Springfield, W.Va., Richard Paugh, Mark Paugh, and Ronnie Paugh, all of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Jared Paugh, Elk Garden; three brothers, Gary Paugh, Swanton, Terry Paugh, Elk Garden, and Larry Paugh, Barnum; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

ZELMA L. NELSON
Zelma Louise Nelson, 75, Kitzmiller, died Thursday, July 12, 2001, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Aug. 30, 1925, in Tunnelton, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Walter and Florence Stewart.
Survivors include her husband, Dempsey Nelson; four sisters, Christina Kent, Mtn. Lake Park, Mary Shaffer, Cumberland, and Bessie Stark and Beatrice Seamon, both of Baltimore.
Friends were received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, where a service was conducted Saturday, July 14, with the Rev. George Tichinel officiating. Interment was in the Mount Zion Cemetery.
DENZIL HILE
Denzil Hile, 74, Oakland, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Oct. 25, 1926, in Pierce, W.Va., he was a son of the late Russell C. and Beatrice G. (Evans) Hile.
He was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, Mtn. Lake Park; a member of the Oakland Chapter 67 OES, Oakland; a member of the Oakland Lodge 192 AF&AM, where he was a past Tyler; a member of the Cumberland Consistory Scottish Rite; and a member of Proctor Kildow Post 71 American Legion. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, and retired from Allegheny Power in 1991.
Survivors include his wife, Wilda J. (Arnold) Hile; two sons, Steven C. Hile, Greensburg, Pa., and Jeffrey Hile, Frederick; one sister, Betty L. Burger, Weirton, W.Va.; two grandchildren; and one stepgrandson.
At the deceased's request, his body was cremated.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, where a Masonic memorial service and an OES memorial service were conducted.
A memorial service was also conducted at the Bethel United Methodist Church, Mtn. Lake Park, on Saturday, July 14, with the Rev. Mark Hickman officiating.

NELLIE L. SCHLOSSNAGLE
Nellie Lurene Schlossnagle, 97, Bridgewater, Va., formerly of Oakland, died Thursday, July 12, 2001, in Bridgewater.
Born July 9, 1904, in Accident, she was a daughter of the late John and Dora (Dodge) Spoerlein. She was also preceded in death in 1970 by her husband, Elwood Schlossnagle, whom she married Sept. 20, 1924.
She was a member of the Oak Park Church of the Brethren, before moving to Bridgewater, when she became a member of the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include one son, John E. Schlossnagle, Oakland; two daughters, Helen V. Harsh, Bridgewater, and Janet L. Earhart, Harrisonburg, Va.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland. A service was conducted at the Gortner Union Church on Sunday, July 15, with the Rev. Donald Matthews officiating. Interment was in the Oakland Cemetery.
ROSE H. WHITE
Rose H. White, 95, Oakland, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Sept. 5, 1905, in Oakland, she was a daughter of the late Richard N. and Mary H. (O'Conner) Murphy. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Kerins and Ada Murphy, and four brothers, John Murphy, Joseph Murphy, Clarence Murphy, and Patrick Murphy.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Oakland, on Sunday, July 15, with the Rev. Fr. Don Parsons as celebrant.
Interment was in the Oakland Cemetery.
LILLIAN L. HARVEY
Lillian L. Harvey, 93, Hyattsville, formerly of Garrett County, died Sunday, July 15, 2001, at the home of her niece in Harkers Island, N.C.
Born April 13, 1908, in Garrett County, she was the daughter of the late Sidney and Mary Anna (Rodeheaver) Harvey.
She was a longtime educator.
Survivors include one brother, Earle Harvey, McHenry; and one adopted sister, Deloris Hertzog, New Port Ritchie, Fla.
Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was conducted earlier today, July 19, with the Rev. Rob Culler officiating. Interment was in the Rodeheaver Cemetery.

JARON M. FULMER
Jaron M. Fulmer, 5, Oakland, died Thursday, July 12, 2001, at Tucker Community Care Facility, Parsons, W.Va., from injuries he sustained in an ATV accident.
Born May 29, 1996, in Oakland, he was a son of Michael A. and Kelli R. (Iden) Fulmer, Oakland.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his twin brother, Justyce L. Fulmer, at home; one sister, Ayla R. Fulmer, at home; his paternal grandparents, Michael and Susan Fulmer, Oakland; and his maternal grandparents, Gary and Sandra Iden, McHenry.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland. A service was conducted at the Pleasant View Baptist Church on Sunday, July 15, with the Rev. Wally Weeks officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Oakland.
LINNIE I. ZIEGLER
Linnie Imogene Ziegler, 63, Lakeland, Fla., and a summer resident of Horse Shoe Run, W.Va., died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born Sept. 24, 1937, in Rockmart, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Olive (Smith) Tamplin. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James Matthew Tamplin.
She was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, Lakeland, and attended Grace Reformed Church, Oakland. She was a member of the Farm Women's Circle in Horse Shoe Run.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Floyd Ziegler; two sons, Clark Ziegler, Longwood, Fla., and Lee Ziegler, Lakeland; one daughter, Mary Ziegler, Falls Church, Va.; one sister, Barbara Janeway, Marietta, Ga.; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at a later date, at the convenience of the family.

Earl W. Lowery, 75, Summerfield, Fla., died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Oct. 20, 1925, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Earl D. and Mary M. (Merrick) Lowery.
He was a graduate of the University of Maryland, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was also an active member of the Shriners.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor L. (Tolson) Lowery; one son, Brian E. Lowery, Orlando, Fla; one sister, Mannetta Groom, Denver, Colo.; and two grandchildren.
At the deceased's request, his body will be cremated.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Deep Creek Baptist Church, McHenry, at a later date, with the Rev. Don Wilson officiating.

DAVID C. HUMBERSON
David Cornelius Humberson, 77, Friendsville, died Monday, July 2, 2001, at his home.
Born Aug. 22, 1923, in Friendsville, he was a son of the late David Lewis and Mary Lona (Friend) Humberson. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, David McKinley Humberson, and four sisters, Margaret M. Stratton, Mary E. Kurtz, V. Faye Guard, and Dorothy A. Six.
He was a retired heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local #66, of Western Pennsylvania. He served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army, 409th Airborne Quartermaster Company, 13th Division. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He was a member of Grantsville American Legion Post 214.
Survivors include his wife, Mary (Wilt) Humberson; three sons, Richard A. Humberson Sr., McHenry, Lewis L. Humberson, Hagerstown, and Gregory D. Humberson, Friendsville; two daughters, Sandra K. Humberson, Baltimore, and Mary H. DeCicco, Chester, N.Y.; two sisters, Jean E. Kirby, Martinsburg, W.Va., and Ruth A. Sheffield, Cleveland, Ohio; four grand-children; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Friendsville, where a service was conducted on Friday, July 6, with the Rev. Steven Rose officiating. Interment was in the Blooming Rose Cemetery. Military rites were accorded at the cemetery.
