Mamie V. Whipp
THURMONT, Md. - Mamie Virginia Whipp, 88, of Mountaindale Road, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 29, 1911, in Frederick County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Harry and Lucy Kauffman Kauffman.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Austin Franklin Whipp, in 1987.
She was a member of Dunkard Brethren Faith.
She is survived by three daughters, Margaret E. Crouse of Feagaville, Md., Virginia E. Harner of Hagerstown and Frances M. Whetzel of Frederick, Md.; a son, Charles Franklin Whipp Sr. of Greeneville, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey Kauffman and Melvin Kauffman.
Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick. The Rev. John Bromhal, pastor of St. Lukes Lutheran Church, in Feagaville, will officiate. Burial will be in Lewistown cemetery in Lewistown, Md.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Thelma I. Abbott
Thelma Irene Abbott, 86, of Hagerstown, died Friday, March 3, 2000, at Coffman Nursing Home.
Born Jan. 31, 1914, in Page County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Albin D. and Annie Laura Chadduck Kibler.
She was a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her husband, Leo L. "Jack" Abbott; four daughters, Doris Pertino of Silver Spring, Md., Betty A. Teti of Las Vegas, and Virginia B. McKee and Carolyn R. Hawthorne, both of Hagerstown; two sons, John D. Abbott Sr. of Odessa, Texas, and Leon P. Abbott of Hagerstown; five sisters, Katie Seal of Front Royal, Va., Della Mae Manuel of Bentonville, Va., Vivian L. Smith of Leitersburg, Helen Abbott of Tilghmanton, Md., and Anna Nichols of Luray, Va.; a brother, Charles Kibler of Fayetteville, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald W. Abbott; two brothers, Willis D. Kibler and Lynn Kibler; and two grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Richard G. Hembrock will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Steven R. Fletcher
Steven Ray Fletcher, 45, of Pontius Lane, Hagerstown, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at Western Maryland Hospital Center in Hagerstown.
Born Dec. 5, 1954, in Winchester, Va., he was the son of Gertrude Sargent Fletcher Shelly of Winchester and the late Lewis Milton Fletcher.
He attended Hagerstown schools.
He was employed by Craig Blacktop Sealing Inc. in Hagerstown.
He played in local bands.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two brothers, Roger Fletcher of Cloverdale, Calif., and Lonnie Fletcher of Hedgesville, W.Va.; and his companion, Tammy L. Ware.
Memorial services will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave. in Hagerstown. Ollen Craig will officiate.
There will be no viewing.

Willis S. Martin
Willis Solomon Martin, 98, of 104 E. First St., Hagerstown, died Friday, March 3, 2000, at Coffman Nursing Home.
Born Feb. 2, 1902, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Eli and Lucy Weaver Martin.
He was the owner and operator of Fountain Head Dairy for many years, retiring in the early 1960s.
He is survived by two daughters, Hildred Harris and Patty Long, both of Hagerstown; three sons, Willis Martin Jr. of Raleigh, N.C., Larry Martin of Hyannisport, Mass., and Jack Martin of Hagerstown; two sisters, Hilda Martin Kennedy and Dorothy Martin Wolford, both of Hagerstown; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Martin.
Memorial services will be Sunday at 7 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. The Rev. John W. Schildt will officiate.
Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Robert W. Felch
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Robert W. Felch, 86, of Nashville and formerly of Donnybrook Drive, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, in Nashville.
A memorial service will be held Friday, March 10, at 7 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church or The Maryland Theatre.
William P. Orrick
FLEMINGTON, N.J. - William Pendleton Orrick, 93, of Flemington, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, in Flemington.
Born in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late Nanny Oliver Bentley and Jesse Lewis Orrick.
He was a 1924 graduate of St. James School and a 1936 graduate of Trinity College.
He taught at St. James School and was its athletic director from 1926 to 1935. He also taught and coached football at Trinity College and taught at Solebury School.
After retirement he was vice president of the American Field Service from 1968 to 1977; escort of the U.S. Department of State International Visitors' Program in 1979; and director of archives for the American Field Service from 1980 to 1996.
He served in the U.S. Navy. He also flew Adm. "Bull" Halsey on his U.S. farewell tour. He was awarded the Air Medal with Citation.
He was a member of Delta Psi (St. Anthony's Hall).
He is survived by his second wife, Kathryn Orrick; three daughters, Margaret Hayt, Nancy Bird and Jessica James Bentley; a son, William Pendleton II; two stepchildren, Richard Duffy and Bronwyn Duffy; a sister, Lucy Bolling; and four grandsons.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 6, at 10 a.m. at Solebury School in New Hope, Pa.
A family memorial service will be held in Cumberland in the Spring.

Robert W. Felch
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Robert W. Felch, 86, of Nashville and formerly of Donnybrook Drive, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, in Nashville.
He was born March 25, 1913, in Ashuelot, near Brattleboro, Vt.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Janet A. Felch, in 1999.
He was a 1935 graduate of Antioch College in Ohio.
He worked as a chemist until his retirement in 1978. He worked for Post Cereals, Kellogg's and the DuPont Co.
He served as an elder of First Presbyterian Church in Wenonah, N.J.
He was a member of Elks Lodge.
He is survived by three children, Dr. James W. Flech Sr. of Nashville, Dr. D. Gregory Felch of Carlisle, Mass., and Ruth Ann Yohe of Shiremanstown, Pa.; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Friday, March 10, at 7 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Nashville.
