George E. Haines
George E. Haines, 72, of 417 Brookline Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 27, 1928, in Charleston, W.Va., he was the son of the late Truman Emory and Lidy Estella Snyder Haines.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne Campbell Haines, in 1995.
He was employed by Independent Cement Co. for 28 years, retiring in 1991.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the occupation of Japan.
He was a Protestant.
He was a member of W.D. Byron Post 1936 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by a daughter, Vicky L. McKenzie of Williamsport; three sons, James T. Haines of Knoxville, Tenn., and Robert E. Haines and Jeffrey S. Haines, both of Hagerstown; four sisters, Valley Burke of Williamsport, Frances Buckbee of Romney, W.Va., Beulah Hott of Winchester, Va., and Wilda McKee of Shanks, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Haines; and a grandson.
Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St. in Hagerstown. Burial will be in Rest Haven cemetery with graveside honors by members of Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Paul W. Mullenix Sr
Paul W. Mullenix Sr., 66, of 11145 Lakeside Drive, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Nov. 17, 1933, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Paul R. and Mary Painter Mullenix.
He was a 1952 graduate of North Hagerstown High School.
He was an insurance agent with American General Insurance Co. and United Insurance Co., retiring in 1995. He was employed as a chauffeur by Professional Transportation Inc.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was of the Brethren faith.
He was a former member of Funkstown American Legion Post 211; a member of BPO Elks Club 378 of Hagerstown; Moose Lodge 2435 of Funkstown; and South Mountain Rod and Gun Club.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie A. Smith Mullenix; a daughter, Paula Louise Bingaman of Halfway; a son, Paul W. Mullenix Jr. of Hagerstown; a sister, Beverly Higgins of Charles Town, W.Va.; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Rest Haven cemetery in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave. in Hagerstown.

Lester E. Sprecher
Lester Eugene Sprecher, 81, of 19922 Sheridan Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at his home.
Born April 29, 1918, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Edgar F. and Bessie M. Longnecker Sprecher.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettie Frances Sprecher.
He was a 1937 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
He was employed by Bell Air Cobra in Buffalo, N.Y., and by Fairchild Aircraft. He retired from teaching at the Career Studies Center.
He had owned and operated Hobby Mart on North Potomac Street in Hagerstown.
A member of Grace United Methodist Church, he sang in the choir and was president of Men's Sunday School Class. He was a member of Maryland State Christian Endeavor.
He was a member of Experimental Aircraft Club; and Mason-Dixon Barbershoppe Chorus.
He is survived by a daughter, Laurie Christine Simpson of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; two sisters, Betty J. Sprecher Otto of Sharpsburg and Mildred C. Sanders of Hagerstown; a brother, Harold D. Sprecher of Hagerstown; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Guy I. Sprecher, Max E. Sprecher and Harry G. Sprecher.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Burial will be in Rest Haven cemetery in Hagerstown.

Rita A. Gertzog
SMITHSBURG - Rita Ann Gertzog, 68, of Smithsburg, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at her home.
Born Feb. 9, 1932, in Jamestown, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Roland A. and Margaret E. Greenwood McDaniels.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Gertzog, in 1996.
She graduated from Hornell High School in New York; and State University of New York Agricultural and Technical Institute at Alfred.
She was employed as a laboratory technician at Rochester University in New York; and at the National Institutes of Health in Rockville, Md.
She was a member and past president of Unitarian Universalist Church.
She was a member and past secretary of League of Women Voters.
She is survived by a daughter, Wendy Bair; and a granddaughter, Lauren Ashley Bair.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg. Chaplain Patricia R. Robinson will officiate.
The family will receive friends Saturday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Norman L. Logan Sr.
WILLIAMSPORT - Norman Leroy Logan Sr., 85, of 16505 Virginia Ave. and formerly of 1913 Maplewood Circle, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 8, 1914, in Trainer, Pa., he was the son of the late John Passmore and Helen Elizabeth Hague Logan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy May Abbott Logan, in 1998.
He was employed by Keebler Biscuit Co. in Baltimore. He retired in 1987, from DuBois Chemical Company in Baltimore.
He is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Paige Logan Nitzell of Hagerstown and Barbara Spaulding Logan of Silver Spring, Md.; three sisters, Mildred Hudgins, Vera Sweeney and Alma Williams, all of North East, Md.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Norman Leroy Logan Jr.; three sisters, Blanche Habel, Ethel Logan and Dorothy Allen; and three brothers, Ralph Logan, Theodore Logan and Clifford Logan.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North in Hagerstown. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven cemetery in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
