WILLIAM R. STRESKY
William Robert Stresky, 57, Terra Alta, W.Va., died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va., from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident on July 2.
Born Nov. 20, 1943, in New Kensington, Pa., he was the son of Helen E. (Morgan) Stresky, Terra Alta, and the late William C. Stresky.
He retired in 1997 from the Preston County School System. He began his teaching career in 1971, serving as a principal, teacher, coach, and athletic director at Terra Alta High School. He coached the girls' basketball team from that school and took them to the state tournaments in 1982 and 1983. He also coached the boys' junior varsity basketball team and was a youth league coach.
In 1991 he transferred to Preston High School, where he taught German. He was a faculty advisor of the German Club both at PHS and Terra Alta High School. He was the chairperson of the foreign language department at PHS. He was the founding member and first president of the Preston County School Employment Federal Credit Union. He also taught night classes for Fairmont State College.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Terra Alta, and had been attending the Little Sandy Church of the Nazarene, Bruceton Mills, W.Va. He was a past member of the Terra Alta Volunteer Fire Department. For the past several years he had been a volunteer cameraman at WNPB-TV in Morgantown, W.Va., and a VIVA volunteer at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Friends were received at the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home, Terra Alta. A service was conducted Sunday, July 8, at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Michael Daniels and the Rev. Chad Harvey officiating.

DOROTHY A. ARNOLD
Dorothy Agnes Arnold, 78, Finzel, died Monday, July 9, 2001, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Care Center.
Born Oct. 16, 1922, in Finzel, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Barbara (McKenzie) Raley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Arnold; one son, Ralph Arnold; one daughter, Bonnie Twigg; and 16 brothers and sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg.
Surviving are two daughters, Sandra Booth and Robin Shaver, both of Frostburg; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, where a wake service was conducted on Wednesday afternoon, with the Rev. Father Jack Lombardi officiating. A Funeral Mass was celebrated earlier today, July 12, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, with the Adam Parker as celebrant.
Interment was in the Arnold-Layton Cemetery, Finzel.
BETTY J. FAZENBAKER
Betty Jane Fazenbaker, 77, Bloomington, died Monday, July 9, 2001, at her home.
Born Dec. 11, 1923, in Bloomington, she was a daughter of the late George and Mary (Munsey) Brandlen. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bernard F. Fazenbaker; one brother, John Brandlen; and three sisters, Margaret Rodriguez, Mary Lou Moran, and Virginia Brandlen.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Bloomington Volunteer Fire Department's Ladies Auxiliary, and Daughters of America.
Survivors include one daughter, Lana Bower, Fort Ashby, W.Va.; two sons, Bernard Fazenbaker, Luke, and Randy Fazenbaker, Bloomington; two brothers, James Brandlen, Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport, and Robert Brandlen, Bloomington; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, where a service was conducted earlier today, July 12, with the Rev. Donald Nelson officiating. Interment was in the Bloomington Cemetery.

WILLIAM W. HOGAN
William W. Hogan, 88, Keyser, W.Va., more recently a resident of Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland, and formerly of New Jersey, died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Nov. 5, 1912, at Bridgeport, Conn., he was a son of the late William D. and Loretta (Cummiskey) Hogan. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor V. (Decker) Hogan, on Feb. 8, 1974; and two sisters.
He was retired as a crimes news reporter with the New York Daily Mirror in New York City, and the Asbury Park Press in Asbury Park, N.J. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, a member of the American Legion Department of West Virginia, Charleston; the Church of the Assumption, Keyser; and the AARP.
Survivors include one son, William C. Hogan, Mtn. Lake Park; one daughter, Eileen Kearns, New York; and one grandson.
Friends were received at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated earlier today, July 12, at the Church of the Assumption, with the Rev. Father Ivan M. Lebar, TOR, as celebrant.
Interment was in the St. Thomas Cemetery, Keyser.
A Christian Wake service was conducted Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
ABBIE E. BRUNNER
Abbie Elizabeth Brunner, 90, Thurmont, died Saturday, July 7, 2001, at the Citizens Nursing Home, Frederick.
Born Nov. 10, 1910, in Friendsville, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Brunner and Sarah Christina (VanSickle) Brunner.
Survivors include 10 children, Iretha Leach, Ft. Gaines, Ga., Elmer Eckenrode, Westminster, Leroy Eckenrode Sr., Libertytown, Playford Eckenrode, Clarksburg, W.Va., Iva Krenzer, Thurmont, Melvin Eckenrode, Pennsylvania, Ross Bob Eckenrode, Woodsboro, Anthony Eckenrode, Friendsville, Rodney Eckenrode, Westminster, and Vonnie Becker, Fairfield, Pa.; 19 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was conducted Tuesday, July 10, at the Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick, with the Rev. Donald C. Hammond officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Friendsville.
JUSTIN A. RIGGS
Justin A. Riggs, 85, Goffstown, N.H., formerly of Grantsville, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Catholic Medical Center.
Born Nov. 2, 1915, in Manheim, W.Va., he was a son of the late Clarence and Myrtle (McGee) Riggs.
He was a teacher for 32 years in Kitzmiller, and at Northern High School, Accident. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Grantsville Post 214, American Legion. He attended Hillside United Methodist Church, Goffstown.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Susan (Warnick) Riggs; one son, Justin A. Riggs, Litchfield, N.H.; two daughters, Beatrice Hall, Lakewood, N.J., and Janice Riggs, Chicago, Ill.; and two granddaughters.
A memorial service was conducted Sunday, July 8, at Hillside United Methodist Church.

ELMER R. HETRICK
Elmer Ray "Kaiser" Hetrick, 84, Grantsville, died Monday, July 9, 2001, at the Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born Sept. 20, 1916, in Accident, he was a son of the late Joseph and Minnie (Butler) Hetrick. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Blanche (Durst) Hetrick, on May 22, 1987.
He was a retired car mover for Harbison-Walker Refractories, and was a member of Jennings United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Gloria J. Resh, Frostburg, and Helen M. Kamp, Cleveland, Ohio; one sister, Ruth Constable, Johnstown, Pa.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where a service was conducted Wednesday, July 11, with the Rev. Brenda Shreve officiating. Interment was in the Grantsville Cemetery.

Cheryl Dale Watts, infant daughter of Maria and James Watts, Melbourne, Fla., died July 4, 2001, at Holmes Regional Medical Center, Melbourne.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandparents, Roberto R. Jose, Oakland, and the late Cheryl E. Jose, and Nancy and Jim Watts, Satellite Beach, Fla.
Interment was in Trinity Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Satellite Beach.
DAVID F. DUNCAN
David F. Duncan, 58, Friendsville, formerly of Coraopolis, Pa., died Saturday, July 7, 2001, at his home.
Born Oct. 14, 1942, in Sewickley, Pa., he was a son of the late Ronald and Elizabeth (Gibson) Duncan.
He was a self-employed draftsman for 40 years.
Survivors include three children, Gary Duncan, McKees Rocks, Pa., Janice D. Cooper, San Jose, Calif., and Patrick O'Leary, Pittsburgh; and one brother, Paul Duncan, McKees Rocks.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, July 14, at Copeland's Coraopolis Funeral Home, 867 Fifth Ave., with the Rev. Peter Blake officiating. Interment will be private.
RAYMOND A. WAMPLER
Raymond Ausburn, Wampler, 88, Swanton, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Aug. 5, 1912, in Avilton, he was a son of the late Jonas E. and Sarah Ann Charlotte (Lancaster) Wampler. He was also preceded in death by six brothers, Lawrence, Harry, Thomas, Leonard, Benjamin, and Floyd Wampler, and one sister, Margaret Loufresha Hixenbaugh.
He was a retired tool and dye man with Martin-Marietta Corp., Baltimore, and was also a self-employed car-penter and building contractor. He was affiliated with the Church of the Brethren in Baltimore.
Surviving are his wife, Dorcas Evelyn (Broadwater) Wampler, with whom he celebrated 65 years of marriage on April 11; two daughters, Helen Mainhart, Brookfield Center, Conn., and Judy Harhager, Stewartstown, Pa.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville. A service was conducted at God's Ark of Safety, Frostburg, on Sunday, July 8, with the Rev. J. Richard Greene officiating. Interment was in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.

HARRY F. DUNKIN
Harry Franklin Dunkin, 73, Oakland, formerly of Pittsburgh, died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at his home.
Born April 22, 1928, in Wheeling, W.Va., he was a son of the late Robert F. and Martha (Siedel) Dunkin. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Marjory (Schallus) Dunkin; two sons, Jeffrey P. Dunkin and Robert J. Dunkin; and one brother, Robert S. Dunkin.
He attended Washington and Jefferson College, was active in the Boy Scouts of America, and was a past member of the American Material Handling Society and the Association of Iron and Steel Engineers.
Following his retirement, he was employed by the Deep Creek Lake/Garrett County Promotion Council. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Bethel Lodge 761 AF&AM, and the Garrett County Historical Society. He was a hospice volunteer.
He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve after the war.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda J. Butscher; one daughter, Gale Knox, Richmond, Va.; one stepson, James Butscher, Odenton; one stepdaughter, Lisa Friend, Terra Alta, W.Va.; three grandsons; and two step-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. this evening.
A funeral service will be conducted at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Friday, July 13, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Patrick Kerr and the Rev. Dr. Lawrence Sherwood officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Park.

ALBERT S. SHAFFER
Albert S. "Junior" Shaffer, 67, Oakland, died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Aug. 10, 1933, in Vindex, he was the son of the late Albert S. and Elizabeth J. (Davis) Shaffer. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn J. "Jean" Shaffer, in 1998.
He worked for Bethlehem Steel, Baltimore, for 32 years, and was a member of the Oakland Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth J. "Nita" Upton, Oakland, and Leslie R. "Roxann" McGainey, Baltimore; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

WILLIAM L. BERNARD JR.
William Lyall Bernard Jr., 59, Lake Wales, Fla., died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at his home.
Born Aug. 12, 1941, in McKeesport, Pa., he was a son of Elsie Bernard, Lake Wales, and the late William L. Bernard Sr.
He was a carpenter and cabinet maker. He designed and manufactured decorative metal artwork. He was Protestant by faith.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one brother, Gene Bernard, Casper, Wyo.
There was no viewing or visitation. A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, July 7, at 2 p.m., at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home, Lake Wales, with the Rev. A.J. Stevenson officiating.

LARRY A. MORGAN
Larry A. Morgan, 43, Cranesville Road, Oakland, died Monday, July 2, 2001, while jogging near his home.
Born May 26, 1958, in Fairmont, W.Va., he was a son of Robert R. Morgan Sr. and Glenda J. (Green) Morgan, Oakland.
He was a member of the Mountain Lake Independent Baptist Church. He was a 1976 graduate of Southern High School. He was a graduate of Garrett Community College, McHenry, and West Virginia University, Morgantown, W.Va., where he earned his bachelor's degree in agriculture. He was an inspector in the waste management section of the Maryland Department of the Environment, and was named Maryland state inspector of the year in 2001.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Janice C. "Jan" (Johnson) Morgan; two sons, Jesse R. Morgan and Matthew R. Morgan, both of Oakland; one sister, Diana Thompson, Fairmont; three brothers, Terry D. Morgan, Jerry L. Morgan, and Robert R. Morgan Jr., all of Oakland; a paternal grandmother, Mae (Bland) Morgan, Farmington, W.Va; and a maternal grandmother, Louise (Morris) (Green) Ammons, Fairview, W.Va.

Mary Lucille Everd Wilt, 79, Oakland, died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at the home of her daughter.
Born March 6, 1922, in Oakland, she was a daughter of the late Joseph T. and Myrtle (Markley) Rodeheaver. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph Rodeheaver, Russell Rodeheaver, and Lofton Rodeheaver.
She was a member of the Crellin United Methodist Church, the Crellin Ladies Aide, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Southern Rescue Squad.
Survivors include her husband, Tilden H. Wilt; two daughters, Sandra Gray and Annabelle Martin, both of Oakland; three sons, Albert "Charlie" Everd, Oakland, Joseph Everd, Baltimore, and Nicholas Everd, Oakland; one step-son, Tilden Wilt, Friendsville; three sisters, Catherine Emerick and Josephine Croft, both of Cumberland, and Rosalie Baker, Oakland; 10 grand-children; and four great-grandchildren.
