Richard A. Shawyer
Richard Alan Shawyer, 40, of 367 Central Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at his home.
Born April 22, 1959, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Florence Jean Paul Shawyer of Hagerstown and the late Gilbert Hildon Shawyer.
He was employed as a carpenter for NVR Building Products, retiring in 1999.
He was a Protestant.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret E. Vance Shawyer; a daughter, Heather M. Moats of Fort Bliss, Texas; two sons, Brandon A. Shawyer at home and Randy L. Moats of Hagerstown; three sisters, Margie A. Walters of Hagerstown, Sherry J. Funk of Marion, Pa., and Joyce M. Funk of Keedysville; three brothers, Dennis R. Shawyer and Timothy W. Shawyer, both of Hagerstown, and Carie E. Shawyer of Smithsburg; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John G. Shawyer Sr. and Julian L. Shawyer.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Richard Hembrock will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open after 9 a.m.

David O. Byrd
David Olin Byrd, 84, of Western Maryland Hospital Center in Hagerstown, and formerly of Keedysville, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at the hospital.
Born July 28, 1915, in Keedysville, he was the son of the late David I. and Amanda V. Babington Byrd.
His wife of 42 years, Julia Louise Coffman Byrd, died in 1984.
He was a farmer; had been employed at Fairchild Aircraft; and built and operated the Red Byrd Restaurant in Keedysville.
He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Keedysville where the Men's Bible Class.
He was active in Red Bird Mission in Kentucky, and was a member of Free Wheelers Driving Club in West Virginia.
He is survived by a foster daughter, Sharon Frye of Winchester, Va.; two sisters, Zella E. Holmes and Phyllis C. Byrd, both of Hagerstown; two brothers, Harold P. Byrd of Leitersburg and W. Wayne Byrd of Hagerstown; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald B. Byrd, Robert L. Byrd and Russell H. Byrd.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Salem United Methodist Church. The Rev. Kenneth J. Fizer Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Zion cemetery at Locust Grove.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.

Fred M. Wolfinger Jr.
Fred Mitchell Wolfinger Jr., 95, of 589 Dunn Irvin Drive, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 6, 1904, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Fred M. Wolfinger Sr. and Hazel Viola Small Wolfinger.
His wife, Pearl Wolfinger, died March 18, 1986.
He retired from the U.S. Navy, having served in World War I and World War II.
He was a member of First Christian Church in Hagerstown.
He was a member of VFW 1936; American Legion Morris Frock Post 42; AMVETS Post 10 and Eagles of Hagerstown.
He is survived by a son, William M. Wolfinger of Mechanicsville, Md.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Brining; and a sister, Kathryn Jeffords.
Services will be Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Fred M. Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Louise B. Rohrer
Louise B. Rohrer, 86, of Clearview Nursing Home, and formerly of Walnut Towers, 12 S. Walnut St., died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 23, 1913, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late William and Lillie Montgomery Souders.
Her husband, Hammond E. Rohrer, died in 1971.
She was employed by Hagerstown Elks Club and Southside Bowl.
She was a Protestant.
She is survived by a daughter, Jean L. Semler of Falling Waters, W.Va.; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Vernon E. Marquart; two sisters; three brothers; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Don Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Stanley L. Harbaugh
SABILLASVILLE, Md. - Stanley L. Harbaugh, 92, of 17423 Sabillasville Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Manor Care Nursing in Chambersburg, Pa.
Born June 24, 1907, in Deerfield, Md., he was the son of the late Samuel D. and Daisy Emma Willard Harbaugh.
He was a 1926 graduate of Thurmont High School.
He worked in Deerfield on the family farm; operated a portable feed mill for Bill Manahan in Frederick County, Md.; and was employed by Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro, Pa., from 1941 until he retired in 1972.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater.
He was a member of Deerfield United Methodist Church.
He was a member of Blue Ridge Fire Co., Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.; American Legion Post 15 and VFW Post 695, both in Waynesboro.
He is survived by his wife, Helen F. Harbaugh Harbaugh; a son, Franklin L. Harbaugh of Waynesboro; three grandchildren, Ruth E. Wise of Rochester, N.Y., Linda E. Fitz of Milford, Pa., and David L. Harbaugh of Phelps, N.Y.; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Robert E. Dailey and Son Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St., Thurmont. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, Cascade.
The family will receive friends on Friday at noon at the funeral home.

Roletta L. Derby
Roletta Louise McLaughlin Derby, 82, of 17443 Reiff Church Road, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born June 19, 1917, in McLaughlin, S.D., she was the daughter of the late Sidney James and Zelda Catherine Lecompte McLaughlin.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wendelin J. Beigler. Her second husband, Robert E. Derby, died in 1960.
She was a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Nation.
She retired from the Air Force Commissary at Westmar Air Force Base, Mass.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Zelda Catherine Payne of Hagerstown; a son, Robert Beigler of Chesapeake, Va.; a sister, Mauraine Simms of Olympia, Wash.; a brother, Michael H. McLaughlin of McLaughlin; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Oscar A. Cory; a son, Wendelin James Beigler Jr.; a sister, Geraldine Joines; and three brothers, Sidney, Willis and Melvyn McLaughlin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Robert E. Morey will be celebrant. Burial will be in City Cemetery, McLaughlin.
