BARBARA C. HANLIN
Barbara Catherine Hanlin, 95, Mount Storm, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at the Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born Oct. 25, 1905, at Wilson, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Emory and Margaret (Cummings) Wimer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Homer C. Hanlin.
She is survived by a sister, Pansy Kent.
Friends were received at the Bayard (W.Va.) Church of God earlier today, July 5, with the Rev. William McCallister officiating. Interment was in the Mount Storm Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller.
DAVID C. HUMBERSON
David Cornelius Humberson, 77, Friendsville, died Monday, July 2, 2001, at his home.
Born Aug. 22, 1923, in Friendsville, he was a son of the late Davis Lewis and Mary Lona (Friend) Humberson. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, David McKinley Humberson, and four sisters, Mary E. Kurtz, Margaret Stanton, Faye V. Guard, and Dorothy Six.
He was a heavy equipment operator for the Maryland State Highway Administration prior to his retirement. He was Methodist by faith. He was a member of Grantsville Post 214, American Legion, since 1945. He served with the paratroopers and received his wings during World War II. He was a member of the International Union of Engineering, Local #66, and served as a counselor at the Savage River Boys' Camp.
Survivors include his wife, Mary (Friend) Humberson; three sons, Richard A. Humberson Sr., McHenry, Lewis L. Humberson, Hagerstown, and Gregory D. Humberson, Friendsville; two daughters, Sandra K. Humberson, Baltimore, and Mary H. DeCicco, Chester, N.Y.; two sisters, Jean Kirby, Martinsburg, W.Va., and Ruth Sheffield, Cleveland, Ohio; four grand-children; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Friendsville, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday. A service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, July 6, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Steven Rose officiating. Interment will be in the Blooming Rose Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded at the cemetery.
PATRICIA R. SHER
Patricia R. (Hesse) Sher, 70, Montgomery County, died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at Holy Cross Hospital, Silver Spring.
Born in Washington, D.C., she moved to Greenbelt with her family when the New Deal planned community was founded in 1937. She was a graduate of Greenbelt High School. She was also a graduate of the University of Maryland.
She was a former Democratic state senator who served as deputy majority leader of the House of Delegates, and then as a senator from Montgomery County.
Survivors include her husband, William Sher; three sons, Tod David Sher, Silver Spring, Mark Stephen Sher, San Francisco, Calif., and Hunter Neal Sher, Silver Spring; one daughter, Valerie Lynn Sher, Los Gatos, Calif.; two brothers, Philip Hesse, Ellicott City, and John David Hesse, Clearwater, Fla.; one sister, Laura Carter, St. Albans, England; her step-mother, Mary Hesse, Kitzmiller; two stepsisters; and two stepbrothers.
A funeral service was conducted Monday, July 2, at the Vanzansky Goldberg Funeral Home, Rockville.
GROVER C. LIPSCOMB
Grover C. Lipscomb, 43, Howesville,W.Va., died Thursday, June 28, 2001, as the result of a traffic accident near Brandonville, W.Va.
Born May 7, 1954, in Garrett County, he was a son of Helena (White) Lipscomb, Howesville, and the late Samuel A. Lipscomb. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
He was an employee of Preston Sanitation and worked as a grave digger. He was Methodist by faith.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Bertha White, Corinth, W.Va.; three brothers, Arnold Lipscomb, Parsons, W.Va., Bradley Lipscomb, Kingwood, W.Va., and Herbert Lipscomb, Tunnelton, W.Va.; and five sisters, Cheryl Moats, Parsons, Bertha Lipscomb, Dover, Pa., Martha Roby, Masontown, W.Va., Karen Lipscomb, Kingwood, and Loria Lipscomb, Tunnelton.
Friends were received at the Browning Funeral Home, Kingwood, where a service was conducted Sunday, July 1, with the Rev. Rotha Hall officiating. Interment was in the Aurora (W.Va.) Cemetery.
ROY W. SWEITZER
Roy W. Sweitzer, 58, Mtn. Lake Park, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Jan. 30, 1944, in Keyser, W.Va., he was a son of the late Junior L. and Pauline M. (Bittinger) Sweitzer. He was also preceded in death by one son, Roy Dale Sweitzer, in 1984.
He was a former custodian at Southern Middle School, a former truck driver, and worked on the Alaskan Pipeline.
He is survived by two sons, Robert W. Sweitzer and Josiah R. DeWitt, both of Oakland; three step-daughters, Clarissa A. Elsey, Cecilia Y. Sisler, and Amanda L. Brown, all of Swanton; three sister, Norma L. Guthrie, Sharon M. Hebb, and Sheila L. Williams, all of Swanton; three brothers, Mark L. Sweitzer, Markleysburg, Pa., Norman L. Sweitzer, Swanton, and Ervin J. Sweitzer, Grantsville; and five grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was held on Saturday, Feb. 23, with the Rev. Meredith Ball officiating.
Interment was in the George Cemetery, Swanton.
JOHN H. MOREY
Dr. John H. Morey, Atlanta, formerly of Deep Creek Lake, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at Budd Terrace, Emory University, Atlanta.
Born May 30, 1922, in New York, N.Y., he was the son of the late Michael Morey and Sarah Hope.
He graduated from the College of Wooster, Wooster, Ohio, in 1951, and attended the Princeton Seminary in 1952. He received his doctorate in English from Cornell University in 1960, and other degrees from Ohio Wesleyan and Hamilton College.
From 1965 to 1969, he was the president of Frostburg State College and from 1969 to 1984, he was president of Muhlenberg College, Allentown, Pa. He retired to Garrett County in 1984, and in 1985 served on the Carnegie-Mellon Development Commission. He and his wife were residents of Deep Creek Lake for more than 30 years.
Surviving are his wife, Arlene J. (Thompson) Morey; three sons, John H. Morey, Durham, N.C., Mark T. Morey, Fairfax, Va., and James H. Morey, Atlanta; and four grandchildren.
A service will be held at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Oakland, on Saturday, March 2, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Fr. Chip Lee officiating.
Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery.

ANDREW G. HASKIELL
Andrew G. "Whitetail" Haskiell, 31, Oakland, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born July 2, 1970, in Kingwood, W.Va., he was the son of George H. Haskiell Jr. and Elizabeth A. (Friend) Haskiell, both of Terra Alta, W.Va.
He attended the Deep Creek Baptist Church. He was the owner and operator of the Haskiell Trucking Co. He was an active member of the Mt. Top Loggers Association, and participated in the Log-A-Load for Kids pro-gram, which provides toys for hospitalized children.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Linda K. (Drefhall) Haskiell; two sons, Hunter T. Haskiell and Reese A. Haskiell, both at home; three sisters, Carol A. Rodeheaver, Hanover, Kimberly A. Trollinger, Walls, Miss., and Amanda D. Haskiell, Corinth, W.Va.; and paternal grandmother, Juanita M. (Campbell) Haskiell, Oakland.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland. A service was held at the Deep Creek Baptist Church on Tuesday, Feb. 26, with Pastor Donald Wilson officiating.
Interment was in the Bray Cemetery.

HAZEL C. SHAFFER
Hazel C. Shaffer, 90, Terra Alta, W.Va. died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born Aug. 18, 1911, in Horse Shoe Run, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Albert "Bert" and Cora M. (Fike) Shaffer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Emerson F. Shaffer, in 1973.
She was a licensed practical nurse and attended the Loch Lynn Church of God.
She is survived by one daughter, Catherine M. "Kay" Schneider, Anaheim, Calif.; three sons, Harvey A. Shaffer, Terra Alta, Norman L. Shaffer, Oakland, and Neil G. Shaffer, Hilliard, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland. A service was held at the Loch Lynn Church of God on Wednesday, Feb. 27, with the Rev. Ivan Ackerman officiating.
Interment was in the Aurora Cemetery.
GLADYS G. FRAZEE
Gladys Gerlene Frazee, 75, formerly of Accident, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland
Born May 18, 1926, in Grantsville, she was the daughter of the late Truman and Clara (Wilt) Butler. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clement Hudson Frazee, on May 3, 1986.
She was a member of Grace Brethren Church, Accident, and was a homemaker.
She is survived by one son, Darrell Frazee, Accident.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Accident (McHenry). A service was conducted at Oak Grove Church of the Brethren, McHenry, on Tuesday, Feb. 26, with the Rev. Donald Matthews officiating.
Interment was in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
RHODA V. MILLER
Rhoda Viola (Brenneman) Miller, 83, Springs, Pa., died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born Jan. 27, 1919, she was a daughter of Ernest and Amelia (Schrock) Brenneman. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Leona Beitzel and Alice Brenneman; and three brothers, William Hugh "Bud" Brenneman, Samuel Brenneman, and Carl Brenneman.
She was a member of Oak Grove Mennonite Church, Grantsville, where she was a Sunday school teacher, volunteered at World's Attic, Somerset, Pa., and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.
She worked for a succession of homes in Gortner, Grantsville, Reading, Pa., Scottdale, Pa., and Canton, Ohio. She played an active role in the startup of Penn Alps Restaurant and Craft Shoppe, and worked at the restaurant in Yoder's Country Market, Grantsville. She was a partner in Farmer's Kitchen at the Grantsville Livestock Auction.
Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Alton Miller; three daughters, Esther (Miller) Bender, Cumberland, Dorothy (Miller) Otto, Shepherdstown, W.Va., and Connie (Miller) Walp, Lancaster, Pa.; one son, Larry Miller, Grantsville; five sisters, Olive "Sis" Puffinburg, Springs, Pa., Ruth Headings, West Liberty, Ohio, Miriam Brenneman, Accident, Arlene Zook, Greenwood, Del., and Lois Brenneman, Traverse City, Mich.; four broth-ers, Allen Brenneman, Accident, Alvin Brenneman, Accident, Elmer "Buddy" Brenneman, Port Tobacco, and Ernest Brenneman Jr., Grantsville; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville. A service was conducted at Springs Mennonite Church on Wednesday, Feb. 27, with the Rev. Tim Fetterly, Rev. Earl Yoder, and Rev. Steven Heatwole officiating.
Interment was in Springs Cemetery.

LLOYD L. LEMON
Lloyd Lee Lemon, 71, Mount Morris, Pa., formerly of Elk Garden, W.Va., died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born March 28, 1930, in Alamogordo, N.M., he was a son of the late William M. Lemon and Lucy H. (Hanlin) Lemon Hedrick. He was also preceded in death by one half brother, Frank (Buzz) Lemon; and one half sister, Lula Ondecker.
He was a machine buffer for the Sterling Faucet Company, Morgantown, W.Va., for 30 years before retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Miracle Mission Church, Mount Morris.
Surviving are his wife, Leora (Murphy) Lemon, Mount Morris, whom he married March 20, 1954; one daughter, Debra Lemon Brown, Oakland; two sons, Donald W. Lemon, Mount Morris, and Phillip E. Lemon, Morgantown; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one sister, Jean Jones, Elk Garden.
Friends were received at the Milliken and Throckmortan Funeral Home, Mount Morris, and at the Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller. A service was conducted at the Milliken and Throckmortan Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenny Rowan and Rev. Fred Tomlinson officiating. An additional service was held at the Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, on Sunday, Feb. 24, with the Rev. Sam Calhoun officiating.
Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Elk Garden.
KATHRYN E. WAGNER
Kathryn Elizabeth Wagner, 67, McHenry, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia, N.C.
Born April 29, 1934, at the Cove, she was a daughter of the late Mahlon and Alice Pearl (Ringer) Brown. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Nile E. "Dick" Wagner, Oct. 3, 2000, and one brother, Robert Brown.
She was a homemaker and a member of Victory Baptist Church, Oakland.
Surviving are two sons, Timothy E. Wagner, Swanton, and Paul E. Wagner, York, S.C.; one daughter, Bonnie K. Brenneman, York; one sister, Lois Gray, Mt. Rainier; and 12 grandchildren.
Friends will be received today, Thursday, Feb. 28, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville. A service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m., with Pastor Doug Sehorne and Pastor Wayne Smith officiating.
Interment will be in the Addison Cemetery, Addison, Pa.

WILBUR C. BOWSER
Wilbur Cecil Bowser, 89, Grantsville, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at his residence.
Born Nov. 9, 1912, in Bittinger, he was a son of the late Ernest and Ada (Schrock) Bowser.
He was a farmer and member of Maple Grove Church of the Brethren.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Hilda Virginia (Wiley) Bowser; one son, Blaine Bowser, Grantsville; two daughters, Donna DeBerry, Oakland, and Barbara Bittinger, Grantsville; three brothers, Russell Bowser and Alvin Bowser, both of Grantsville, and Ernest Olen Bowser, Louisville, Ohio; two sisters, Thelma Green and Olive Hetrick, both of Grantsville; eight grandchil-dren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where a service was conducted earlier today, Thursday, Feb. 28, with the Rev. Eric Bowser officiating.
Interment was in Bittinger Cemetery.
CHARLES R. MCROBIE
Charles R. "Mutt" McRobie, 81, Oakland, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at his home.
Born Nov. 15, 1920, in Vindex, he was a son of the late William T. and Winnie E. (True) McRobie. He was also preceded in death by one son and four grandchildren.
He was Pentecostal by faith. He was a retired coal miner and was a maintenance man for the Oakland Country Club. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Josephine M. (Gregory) McRobie; five daughters, Margaret M. Duckworth, Morgantown, W.Va., Mary L. Bittinger, Friendsville, Rachel M. Kisner, Crellin, Judy C. Koton, Oakland, and Joyce M. Harrison, Kingwood, W.Va.; four sons, William E. McRobie, Bruceton Mills, W.Va., Robert R. McRobie, Hagerstown, Charles M. McRobie and Roy R. McRobie, both of Crellin; 21 grandchildren; and 26 great-grand-children.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 28, and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 on Friday.
A service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, March 2, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Michael Mudge officiating.
Interment will be in the Nethken Hill Cemetery, Elk Garden, W.Va.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the various veterans' organizations in southern Garrett County.
