Gloria V. Gibson
FREDERICK, Md. - Gloria V. Gibson, 70, of Frederick, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born April 5, 1929, in Frederick County, she was the daughter of the late Fulton Thomas and Anna Alberta Johnson Weedon.
She attended the former Lincoln High School in Frederick.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Gibson.
She worked for Airpax as a parts assembler for 20 years, retiring in 1991.
She attended Buckeystown United Methodist Church and St. Paul A.M.E. Church.
She is survived by three children, William T. Gibson of Hagerstown, Merhl W. Gibson of Frederick, and Patricia A. Parker of Fort Washington, Md.; two sisters, Ermine Layer and Veronica Ingram, both of Adamstown, Md.; one brother, Adolphus Weedon of Frederick; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; nieces, nephews aunts and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a son, Adolphus E. Gibson; and a brother, Godfrey T. Weedon.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home in Frederick. The Revs. Christine Moore and Robert Ambush will officiate. Burial will be in Hopehill Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 5 to 9 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m.
George H. Robinson
George H. Robinson, 91, of 1183 Luther Drive, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village in Hagerstown.
Born Feb. 14, 1908, in Indiana County, Pa., he was the son of the late John M. and Ella B. Kaufman Robinson.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Ione Plummer Robinson; and by his second wife, Florence Snyder Kester Robinson.
He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh; and earned his master's degree from West Virginia University.
He began teaching in western Pennsylvania in 1930. He became principal of Bladensburg Junior High School in Prince George's County, Md., in 1948. He was assistant superintendent of Prince George's Public Schools from 1951 until his retirement in 1978.
He was a former member of Chesapeake Country Club.
He is survived by one daughter, Judy A. Long of Hagerstown; one stepdaughter, Suzanne Wilson of Cumberland, Md.; two grandsons; two stepgrandsons; one stepgranddaughter; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, George W. Robinson; and two sisters, Margaret B. Robinson and Isabelle G. Robinson.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 19, at 2 p.m. at Cheverly United Methodist Church, 2801 Cheverly Ave., Cheverly, Md. The Revs. Patrick Malone and Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Burial will be in St. Clair cemetery in Greensburg, Pa.
There will be no viewing.

John V. Slack
ORLANDO, Fla. - John V. "Jack" Slack, 65, of Country View Terrace, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000.
He was born in Hagerstown.
He retired from Lockheed Martin as a quality control inspector.
He was a Protestant.
He was a member of UAW-CIO Local 788; National Rifle Association; North American Hunting Club; American Bowling Congress; Winter Park Businessmen's League; Bucks and Does League; Greater Orlando BA; Moose Lodge 766; and AARP.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine P. Slack; and a daughter, Jeri Slack of Orlando.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Carey Hand Garden Chapel Home for Funerals, 600 E. Wilkinson St. in Orlando. At his request he will be cremated.

Sydney M. Shirley
CHARLOTTE HALL, Md. - Sydney M. Shirley, 76, of Charlotte Hall, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000.
She was the daughter of the late James G. and Mary Magill Shirley.
She was a retired social worker.
She served in the U.S. Navy WAVES during World War II.
She is survived by three nieces and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Edith Anne Thayer; and two brothers, James G. Shirley Jr. and Thurston Shirley.
Graveside services will be held at a later date at Zion Episcopal Church cemetery in Charles Town, W.Va.
There will be no viewing or visitation.

Thomas E. Bender
Thomas Eugene Bender, 44, of 515 Reynolds Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Dec. 25, 1955, in Milwaukee, he was the son of Eugene J. Bender of New Berlin, Wis., and the late Catherine Bartz Bender.
He was an engineer with WDCA-TV in Rockville, Md.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Patty Sue Keeling Bender; a daughter, Sara Jean Bender at home; and a brother, James S. Bender of New Berlin.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kristina M. Bender.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave. in Hagerstown. Pastor Timothy Lester will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven cemetery in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Albert C. Wastler
FREDERICK, Md. - Albert C. "Al" Wastler, 83, of 338 Park Ave., died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born June 23, 1916, near Rocky Ridge, Md., he was the son of the late Russell Harbaugh and Lulu Emma Krise Wastler.
He was a 1935 graduate of Frederick High School.
He farmed. He retired in 1982, from the Parts Department of Alban Tractor Co. in Myersville, Md., after 28 years.
He was a member of Frederick Church of the Brethren.
He pitched in the Frederick County Baseball League in Thurmont, Md., Penn Maryland League in Emmitsburg, Md. and Tri-County League.
He was a member of AARP Chapter 636; Alban Green and Gold; and Potomac Edison Forerunners.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Elizabeth Clarke Simpson Howard Wastler; an aunt; nieces; nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rachel V. Wastler and Hazel I. Wastler; and two brothers, Carroll R. Wastler and Howard J. Wastler.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Ave. in Frederick. Rev. Lerry W. Fogle will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery in Frederick.
Visitation will be Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St. in Frederick. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
