Clifford N. Thomas
HALFWAY - Clifford Neville "Red" Thomas, 80, of Halfway, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born Sept. 26, 1919, in Logan, W.Va., he was the son of the late Albert Edwin and Mary Susan James Thomas.
He was employed at Fairchild Industries for 46 years, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.
He was a Scout master for Troop 36, Halfway, in the late 1950s.
He is survived by his wife, Frances G. Thomas; two sons, Edwin Allen Thomas of Oreland, Pa., and Stephen Gary Thomas of Seaford, Del.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Thomas, Windsor Thomas and Colin Thomas.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Bill Clark will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mary E. Loveless
Mary Elizabeth Loveless, 61, of 11 W. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 23, 1939, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Clara Burkett Boppe.
She was employed by Ames Department Store for 16 years, and previously by Zayres Store for 4 years.
She is survived by three daughters, Shirley Gipe of Hagerstown, Brenda Murray of Downsville, and Linda Cosey of Clear Spring; five sons, Robert Rickett, Earl Rickett, William Rickett, Francis Loveless, all of Hagerstown, and Steven Sheppard of Big Pool; five sisters, Bonnie Kelly of Big Pool, Helen Socks of Downsville, Margaret Banzhoff and Nancy Courtney, both of Williamsport, and Betty Tattersal of Hagerstown; three brothers, Robert Boppe of South Dakota, Richard Boppe of Clear Spring, and Bruce Boppe of Hagerstown; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Boppe.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. A. Paul Harne will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul cemetery in Clear Spring.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
James R. Smith
HANCOCK - James R. Smith, 96, of Colton Villa, and formerly of South Street, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W Main St., Hancock. The Rev. George W. Glick will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, East High Street, Hancock.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Harold M. Brumbaugh
Harold Milton "Ted" Brumbaugh, 80, of 14612 Pennsylvania Ave., died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 12, 1919, in Middleburg, Md., he was the son of the late Edward C. and Rhoda Summers Brumbaugh.
He was a self-employed livestock dealer in the Tri-State area for 50 years.
He played professional baseball as a pitcher from 1938 to 1944.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Hilda Armel Brumbaugh; two daughters, Christine B. Ellis and Virginia A. Stayman, both of Hagerstown; a sister, Marie B. Phillippy of Williamsport; a brother, Edward W. Brumbaugh of Durham, N.C.; a granddaughter; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Gail R. Brumbaugh and Virginia G. Brumbaugh; and a brother, Samuel N. Brumbaugh.
Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Edwin J. Higginbottom will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Franklin H. Miller Sr.
LaVALE, Md. - Franklin H. Miller Sr., 75, of LaVale, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland, Md.
Born Sept. 2, 1924, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Charles and Carrie B. Hager Miller.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Adams Miller; and by his second wife, Betty Sisk Miller.
He was retired from Western Maryland Railroad, Ridgeley, W.Va.; and CSX in Hagerstown, as a carman.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Grace Memorial Community Church.
He was a member of Brotherhood of Railway Carmen and NARVE.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Helmick Miller; four sons, James E. Brode Jr. of Irwin, Pa., Gerald Francis Brode of Daytona Beach, Fla., David L. Brode of Ashburn, Va., and Franklin H. Miller Jr. of Greencastle, Pa.; three daughters, Linda Burleson of Cumberland, Pamela S. Miller of Hagerstown, and F. Holly Woodward of Suwanee, Ga.; six stepchildren, Jim Whiteman of Fort Ashby, W.Va., John D. Helmick of Frostburg, Md., Ronald Helmick of Centreville, Pa., Donna Antel of Savage Md., Lynn A. Dean of Savage, and Rebecca Watkins of Savage; a brother, Richard L. Miller of Rockville, Md.; three sisters, Louise E. Kincaid of Ridgeley, Ruth M. Chapman of Lower Salem, Ohio, and Virginia Stafford of Cresaptown, Md.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles E. Miller, George H. Miller, Carl F. Miller and William D. Miller.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene St., Cumberland. The Rev. Mickey Stephens will officiate. Burial will be in MSVC-Rocky Gap, with military honors by a local combined veterans honor guard.
Friends will received today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Leah M. Glenn
Leah Mae Glenn, 68, of 518 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 29, 1931, in Central City, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Clara Gearhart Gray.
Her first husband, Frank O. Gochenour, died Dec. 24, 1967. Her second husband, Edwin Joseph Glenn Sr., died June 17, 1993.
She was employed by Columbia Gas of Maryland for 25 years.
She did volunteer work at Commission on Aging and Pangborn Elementary School.
She was a member of Ladies of the Elks 378 and American Legion Funkstown Post 211 Auxiliary.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda J. Stump of Boonsboro, and Janet L. Tubergen of Frederick, Md.; a son, Ronald G. Gochenour of Poolsville, Md.; a stepson, Edwin Glenn Jr. of Waynesboro, Pa.; three sisters, Caroline Lanham of Montgomery, Ala., Susan Burtnett of Springfield, Va., and Dorothy Conover of Camden, Maine; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, John Gray.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Helen Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
