Frank P. Souza
KNOXVILLE, Md. - Frank Philip Souza, 75, of 1705 Jefferson Pike, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital in Frederick, Md.
Born Oct. 18, 1924, in Gardener, Mass., he was the son of the late John and Jenny Madruga Souza.
He was a retired owner of the Hitching Post in Petersville, Md. ; and had owned the 9th Avenue General Store in Brunswick, Md.
He retired from the U.S. Army in 1965 with the rank of first sergeant. He served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Souza; a sister, Flo Viera of Raleigh, Mass.; two brothers, Edward Souza and Albert Souza, both of Danvers, Mass.; and a niece.
He was preceded in death by a son, Philip Louis Souza.
Private burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick, with prayers at 7 p.m. by the Rev. Robert Jaskot.

Elizabeth L. Knight
PORT SAINT LUCIE, Fla. Elizabeth Lee Knight, 70, of 3598 SW Conibear St., and formerly of Sharpsburg, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at her home.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Church of God, Samples Manor, Md.

Ida Mae V. Engle
Ida Mae Virginia Engle, 69, of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Western Maryland Hospital Center in Hagerstown.
Born Oct. 7, 1930, in Harpers Ferry, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James Garland and Sara Elizabeth Dillow Engle.
She was a homemaker.
She was of the Pentecostal Faith.
She is survived by two sisters, Sarah Penwell of Ranson, W.Va., and Jessie Lally of Harpers Ferry; and three brothers, James Engle of Martinsburg, Shannon Nelson Engle of Charles Town, W. Va., and John Paul Engle of Kearneysville, W.Va.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Hardy; three brothers, Robert Engle, Charles David Engle and Harrison Engle.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, 114 N. Mildred St., Ranson. The Revs. Charles D. Coley and Shawn D. Coley will officiate. Burial will be in Murrill Hill cemetery in Harpers Ferry.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mildred H. Heess
Mildred H. Heess, 90, of 19506 Windsor Circle, Hagerstown, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at North Hampton Health Care in Frederick, Md.
Born Sept. 7, 1909, in New Marshfield, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Clark B. and Julia Katherine Six Hunter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jonathan Rogers Heess, in 1987.
She was employed by First Federal Savings and Loan Association, retiring in 1969.
She was a member of Zion Evangelical Reformed Church.
She was a member of American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42 Auxiliary; Hopewell Homemakers; and Business Professional Women.
She is survived by a stepdaughter, Janet Palmer of Sneckville, Pa.; a stepson, Richard M. Heess of Spring City, Pa.; a sister, Dorothy Ramsey of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, George Hunter of Athens, Ohio; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Anita R. Boogher; a sister, Mary Kay Romine; and two brothers, Lawrence Hunter and Blaine Hunter.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Harold E. Posey will officiate. Entombment will be in Rest Haven cemetery in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Elizabeth P. Williams
Elizabeth P. "Betty" Bussard Williams, 86, of 17307 Cloverleaf Road, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Williamsport Nursing Home.
Born Oct. 30, 1913, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Annie M. Martin Cook.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert G. Bussard, in 1984.
She was a member of Christ's Reformed Church.
She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of the Halfway Fire Co.; and AARP.
She is survived by her second husband, V. Harold Williams; a stepson, Wayne Williams of Smithsburg; a sister, Rose V. Little of Emmitsburg, Md.; a brother, John Nevin Cook of Hagerstown; a step-granddaughter; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Don R. Stevenson will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Elwood N. Henson
PASADENA, Md. - Elwood Nihiser Henson, 83, of Pasadena, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in Glen Burnie, Md.
Born Aug. 31, 1916, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Leo Sr. and Ina Poffenberger Henson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Beckley Henson.
He worked as a boiler maker, retiring in 1978.
He is survived by a daughter, Janet Johansen of Glen Burnie; two sisters, Betty Moats of Hagerstown and Mildred Ocker of Southern Maryland; a brother, Leo Henson of Hagerstown; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Skip Henson.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, Feb. 1, at 10 a.m. at Glen Haven Memorial Park in Glen Burnie. The Rev. Elwood Ulmer officiated.
