Sylvia I. Barnhart
Sylvia Irene Barnhart, 84, formerly of 11347 Greenberry Road, Hagerstown, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Homewood Retirement Home, Williamsport.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Blanche Bent, and two brothers, Thomas McElroy and Ernest McElroy.
John W. Groves
SHARPSBURG - John William "Buck" Groves, 64, of 7511 Dam No. 4 Road, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at his home.
Born Sept. 6, 1935, in Fort Meade, Md., he was the son of Mary Helen Mullenix Groves Richardson of Hagerstown and the late John William Groves.
He retired from Hobart Co. in Williamsport.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He attended Real Life Community Church.
He was a member of Greencastle American Legion and Eagles Inc. in Waynesboro, Pa.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his stepfather, Paul James Richardson of Hagerstown; his wife, Bonita Jones Groves; a daughter, Teresa Startzman of Hagerstown; two sons, John W. Groves III of Waynesboro and James P. Groves of Sharpsburg; a sister, Elenora Murray of Hagerstown; two brothers, Edward Groves of Hagerstown and Charles Groves of Okeechobee, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Revs. Henry Lutz and Bob Revell will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

William H. Rohrer
LEITERSBURG - William Harry "Willie" Rohrer, 82, of 21523 Leitersburg/Smithsburg Road, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
Born Aug. 30, 1917, in Washington County, Md., he was the son of the late Harry Martin Sr. and Lucy Alice Palmer Rohrer.
His wife, Dorothy Elaine Rohrer, died in 1982.
He retired in 1979 from Jamison Door Co. After his retirement he built and sold bird houses in Leitersburg.
He served with the Army during World War II.
He was one of the founding members of Smithsburg Steam & Craft Show and a member of various steam and tractor associations in the four-state area. He was also a life member of North American Rod and Gun Club.
He is survived by two daughters, Pat A. Rohrer of Hagerstown and Donna Sammarco of Washington, D.C.; a son, William Mike Rohrer of Smithsburg; a sister, Alice Burkitt of Hagerstown; two brothers, Harry M. Rohrer Jr. and Robert T. Rohrer, both of Hagerstown; and four grandsons.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Hazel Harsh, Mary J. Rohrer and Phylis C. Rohrer; and five brothers, Lester M. Rohrer, Arnold R. Rohrer, Fenton L. Rohrer, R. Earl Rohrer and Howell H. Rohrer.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. and one hour to the service.
Otilia M. Huffer
WILLIAMSPORT - Otilia May Huffer, 100, a resident of Homewood Retirement Center, and formerly of 41 S. Main St., Boonsboro,, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at the center.
Born Nov. 13, 1899, in Allegheny County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Cowan and Agnes C. Shaw Pearce.
Her husband, Alfred C. Huffer Sr., died in 1984.
She was recently honored as the oldest living graduate of Frostburg State Normal School, now Frostburg State University, class of 1919.
She had been a teacher for several years at Boonsboro Elementary School and Washington Street School in Hagerstown.
She was an active member of Mount Nebo United Methodist Church, Boonsboro, where she served as organist, Sunday School pianist and teacher along with many other activities.
She was a former member of American Legion Auxiliary of Boonsboro American Legion Post 10; Olive Branch Chapter of Eastern Star; Washington County Farm Bureau; Washington County Republican Clubs; Boonsboro Historical Society and participated in numerous community activities as well as being active in her husband's retail business. She was a well known local artist.
She is survived by two daughters, Doris Hutton of Fort Myers, Fla., and Eula Swain of Williamsport; a son, Alfred C. Huffer Jr. of Salisbury, Md.; a sister, Clementine Willetts Brain of Frostburg, Md.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Gregory Harbaugh will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery, Boonsboro.
There will be no viewing or visitation, however, the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Mount Nebo United Methodist Church, 134 S. Main St., Boonsboro, MD 21713 or to the charity of one's choice.

Sylvia McElroy Barnhart, 84, formerly of 11347 Greenberry Road, Hagerstown, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Homewood Retirement Home in Williamsport.
Born Nov. 11, 1915, in Berkeley Station, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George Thomas and Eliza Jane McCoy McElroy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Barnhart, in 1986.
She was a member of Downsville Church of the Brethren.
She was a member of Red Feather Council Pocahontas Tribe 59 in Williamsport, Loyal Order of Lady Rats, Amvets Post 10 Auxiliary, and AARP.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, David M. McElroy and Albert L. McElroy.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. The Rev. William C. Van Buskirk will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Janice E. White
Janice Elaine White, 73, of 11403 Stonecroft Court, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 30, 1926, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Albert Franklin and Lena Kreglo Mongan.
Her husband, Paul E. White, died in 1997.
She is survived by one daughter, Sharon L. Carpenter of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; one son, Joe White of Maugansville; one sister, Dorothy Turner of Maugansville; one brother, Albert Mongan of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
