Shirley L. Webb
CUMBERLAND, Md. - Shirley L. Webb, 69, of Grand Ave., died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born July 14, 1930, in Ridgeley, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Gerald Vernon and Mary Catherine Bowers Tichnell.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Cumberland.
She is survived by a daughter, Catherine Jean Gorsuch of Fairplay; three sons, Richard Louis Webb Sr. of Manassas, Va., Larry D. Webb of Cumberland and John Dale Webb of Gastonia, N.C.; a sister, Norma Jean Amick of Columbia, S.C., a brother, Norman Ollie Tichnell of Columbia; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church. Pastor Mark C. Dill will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Cumberland.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave. in Cumberland. Visitation also will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at the church.

William E. Tabb III
William Ernest Tabb III, 81, of Hagerstown, and formerly of Bunker Hill, Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at his home.
Born July 6, 1918, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late William Ernest Jr. and Frances Elizabeth Rosenberger Tabb.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose May Hartley Tabb.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
He retired from Frick Co. in Waynesboro. Previously, he was employed by Fairchild Industries; and worked at roller rinks in Ridgeway, W.Va., and Purcellville, Va.
He was active in the Masonic Lodge of Hagerstown.
He is survived by a daughter, Sally T. Wilkerson of Crewe, Va.; a stepsister, Doris Elizabeth Roberts of Martinsburg, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Amy Griffin of Burkeville, Va., and Sara Andrews of Crewe; three great-grandchildren; a niece and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Lillian Swartz Tabb; a sister, Helen Jane Hoffman; and two brothers, Paul Creighton Tabb and Francis Eldridge Tabb.
A private memorial service will be held in Crewe at a later date. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.
The family requests the omission of flowers.

Melvin B. Wetzel
Melvin B. Wetzel, 75, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 6, 1924, in Frederick County, Md., he was the son of the late Claude H. and Mary Kemp Wetzel.
He retired in 1986 as a cabinet maker from Cavetown Planning Mill. Earlier, he worked at Fairchild Aircraft.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in Europe.
He was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren, United Workers Sunday School Class, and served as an usher.
He was a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge 378, Hagerstown; and Morris Frock Post 42, American Legion, Hagerstown.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rebecca Zimmerman Wetzel; a daughter, Carolyn M. Wetzel-Flory of Walkersville, Md.; a son, Thomas M. Wetzel of Temecula, Calif.; and a granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard D. Wetzel.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Dean Miller will officiate.
Visitation will be today from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St. in Hagerstown.

Ruth F. Murphy
IJAMSVILLE, Md. - Ruth Frances Duffey Murphy, 75, of 10701 Fingerboard Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at Frederick Health Care Center.
Born Nov. 27, 1924, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Otho Frances and Alice Summer Duffey.
She was a homemaker; and helped her husband on the family farm.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Casper Charles Murphy; four children, Patrick M. Murphy , Timothy I. Murphy and Maryanne T. Spencer, all of Ijamsville, and Matthew G. Murphy of Frederick, Md.; a sister, Joan Kemp of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a brother, William Duffey of Boonsboro; two grandchildren; nieces; nephews, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, 8823 Fingerboard Road in Urbana, Md. The Rev. Thomas T. Polk will be celebrant. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery in Frederick.
Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St. in Frederick.

Marvian V. Daley
Marvian Virginia Daley, 83, of 1330 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village in Hagerstown.
Born Jan. 1, 1917, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Earl W. Sr. and Mary Needy Hepperle.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Harry Raymond Daley Sr., in 1999.
She was a member of First Christian Church, served as deaconess, Sunday school teacher and was a member of Eveready Sunday School Class.
She was a member of Christian Women's Fellowship, and held offices on local and regional levels.
She is survived by a daughter, Rosalie Curran of Hagerstown; a son, Harry Raymond Daley Jr. of Greensburg, Pa.; three sisters, Phyllis Ringer of Fallston, Md., Jane Starke and Doris Friedrich, both of Hagerstown; a brother, Earle W. Hepperle Jr. of Hagerstown; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North in Hagerstown. The Rev. Fred M. Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven cemetery in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Fred L. Ebberts
FUNKSTOWN - Fred Leroy Ebberts, 83, formerly of East Baltimore Street, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at Avalon Manor Health Care Center in Hagerstown.
Born Sept. 25, 1916, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Robert and Ada Hess Ebberts.
He was employed by Pangborn Corp. in Hagerstown.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in Europe.
He was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church in Hagerstown.
He was a member of Redmen's Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Louise E. Kesselring Ebberts; two sons, Fred Tom Ebberts of Hagerstown and James L. Ebberts of Greencastle, Pa.; and a sister, Kathryn Smith of Hagerstown.
Graveside services were held at Rest Haven cemetery in Hagerstown.
