Charles E. Hiser Sr.
Charles Edward Hiser Sr., 57, of 39 Elizabeth St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at his home.
Born Oct. 1, 1942, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Frank William Hiser Sr. and Mary Jane King Hiser.
He owned Hiser Concrete.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Jean Mazingo Hiser; three daughters, Denise Marie Hiser, Tania Lynn Leather and Cherry Lynn Hiser, all of Hagerstown; one son, Charles Edward Hiser Jr. of Hagerstown; one sister, Doria Lorraine Jones of Hagerstown; two brothers, Frank William Hiser Jr. and Fred Albert Hiser, both of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert V. Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Charles D. Mades
Charles D. Mades, 88, formerly of 931 Hamilton Blvd., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Williamsport Nursing Home in Williamsport.
Born July 3, 1911, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Charles and Sarah G. Ray Mades.
He graduated from Eastern High School in Washington, D.C., and attended the University of Kentucky.
He retired as lieutenant from the Maryland State Police.
He was head of the Hagerstown Post of the Maryland State Police.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves.
He attended St. Ann Catholic Church.
He was past exalted ruler and secretary of BPO Elks 378; a member of Fraternal Order of Police 88; American Legion Funkstown Post 211; Hagerstown Lodge 217 AF & AM; a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason; Ali Ghan Shrine Temple; past president of Hagerstown Shrine Club, Sierra Unit SAYARA; a member of P.G.T.L. with Tall Cedars of Lebanon; and First Hose Fire Co.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Naomi S. Mades; a daughter, Nancy A. Gracia of Bel Air, Md.; a son, Charles F. Mades of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Mades.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Bill McPherson will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, with memorial services at 7 p.m. by BPO Elks 378 and at 7:15 p.m. by Hagerstown Lodge 217 AF & AM.

Margaret E. Crum
FREDERICK, Md. - Margaret E. Barthlow Crum, 97, of 3218 Basford Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Citizens Nursing Home.
Born Feb. 3, 1902, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Millard Ernst and Elizabeth Frances Burke Barthlow.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Clinton Crum Sr., in 1973.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Margaret E. Harrison and Bertha Joan Kennedy, both of Frederick; a son, Charles C. Crum Jr. of Frederick; three sisters, Madeline N. Smith, Kathleen A. Murphy and Betty C. Miller, all of Frederick; a brother, Russell S. Barthlow of Frederick; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Virginia Crum; two sisters, Alice D. Barthlow and Emily G. Grove; two brothers, William H. Barthlow and Millard E. Barthlow Jr.; and two granddaughters.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The Rev. James R. Seale will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery in Frederick.

Emil E. Shober
FREDERICK, Md. - The Rev. Emil Edgar Shober, 77, of 629 Wilson Place, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 13, 1922, in Somerset, Pa., he was the son of the late Rev. Ralph E. and Mary Cupp Shober.
He retired from Geico in Chevy Chase, Md., where he worked in data processing.
He served in the Merchant Marine.
He was a member of Frederick Church of the Brethren, the Bydanho Class; taught Mens Bible Class, Christ Quest and The Home Builders Class.
An ordained pastor of the Church of the Brethren, he served as interim pastor for Brethren Churches in Frederick County, Md., Washington County, Carroll County, Md., and Montgomery County, Md. In 1995, he received the honor Emeritus Ordained Minister of the Church of the Brethren, Mid-Atlantic Region.
He was a crossing guard for Hillcrest Elementary School.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Brengle Shober; a daughter, Nancy J. Bussard of Middletown, Md.; two sons, Larry E. Shober of North Richland Hills, Texas and Kent B. Shober of Frederick; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Wayne Shober and Dwight W. Shober.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Frederick Church of the Brethren, Frederick. The Revs. Lerry W. Fogle and Peter C. Myers will officiate.
Private burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery in Frederick.
Friends may call Friday from 4 to 9 p.m. at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St. in Frederick, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.

Born Sept. 23, 1919, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Lewis F. and Rose Socks Favorite.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles C. Bartles, in 1996.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Diane S. Davis of Bridgeton, N.J., and Sue Ellen Blickenstaff of Hagerstown; two sons, Terry L. Bartles of Hagerstown and Robert A. Bartles of Waynesboro, Pa.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
