David Ross Gilchrist Sr
AKRON, OHIO - David Ross Gilchrist Sr., 68, of Akron, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2000.
He was born July 8, 1931, in Akron.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Korean War.
He was the owner of Gilchrist & Son Painting Co. He last worked at Rockynol Community Service in Akron.
He was a member of Ralph Huff Post 1062, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
He is survived by a son, David R. Gilchrist Jr. of Kansas; a brother, Bill Gilchrist of Texas; two sisters, Jean Smith and Evelyn Bee, both of Akron; a good friend, Helen Pasco; a granddaughter; nieces and nephews.
Military graveside services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. by Ralph Huff Post 1062 at Hillside Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Eckard-Baldwin Funeral Home, 760 E. Market St., Akron.

John T. Helsley
HANCOCK - John Thomas Helsley, 65, of High Street, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at his home.
Born July 25, 1934, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late George W. and Rachael Harr Helsley.
He was employed by Hancock Truck Stop in Hancock. He previously was employed as production manager with theaters in Washington, D.C.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was a Protestant.
He is survived by friends.
Services will beWednesday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 142 W. Main St., Hancock. Tim Swindell will officiate. Burial will be in Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
There will be no viewing or visitation.

Charles R. Kline Sr.
NIKEP, Md. - Charles Robert Kline Sr., 63, of 17733 Lower Georges Creek Road, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland, Md.
Born March 4, 1936, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late James Russell and Naoma E. Williams Kline.
His wife, Carol Fairgireve Kline, died Oct. 8, 1999.
He was a member of Local 616.
He is survived by five sons, Charles R. Kline Jr., James A. Kline and Lloyd A. Kline, all of Hagerstown, Raymond C. Kline of Nikep and Randall E. Kline, at home; grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, William J. Kline; and two brothers, William Kline and James Kline.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, Md. The Revs. Christopher Crawford and William Boyer will officiate. Burial will be in Laural Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills, Md.
At his request, his body was cremated.
Dorothy L. Hess
Dorothy L. Hess, 92, formerly of 11 W. Baltimore St., died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home.
Born Dec. 25, 1907, in Funkstown, she was the daughter of the late Charles B. and Frances V. Gimple Arthur.
Her husband, Raymond M. Hess, died in 1980.
She was a member of Christ's Reformed Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Norma Jean Hess of Hagerstown; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Don R. Stevenson will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service.
Vernon S. Wilson
SAVANNAH, Ga. - Vernon Sylvester Wilson, 84, of Savannah, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah.
Born March 31, 1915, in Bedford, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph Franklin and Mary King Wilson.
He was a graduate of Hagerstown High School; and attended vocational school for sheet metal drafting.
He worked for Sun Shipbuilding Co. in Chester, Pa.; then, with his brother Raymond, started Wilson Brothers Sheet Metal Works in Hagerstown.
He was a former member of First Baptist Church and had been music director.
He sang in Palm View Garden Church Choir and was a member of Gems Choral Group in Zephyrhills, Fla.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Thelma Hawn Wilson of Savannah; one daughter, Dorothea Wilson King of Savannah; one grandson, Trey King of Savannah; and a great-grandson.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church, Savannah.
The family will receive friends at the church Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m.

Robert H. Snook Sr.
BOONSBORO - Robert Henry Snook Sr., 70, of 17203 Bakersville Road, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at Avalon manor Nursing Home in Hagerstown.
Born Sept. 12, 1929, in Halfway, he was the son of the late Luther Scott and Nellie Catherine Miller Snook.
He was a 1949 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
He was employed by Sears Roebuck and Co. as a service technician for 28 years, retiring in 1991.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.
He was a member of Downsville Christian Church, and on the board of directors.
He was a member of Volunteer Fire Company of Halfway; a former member of Hagerstown Moose Lodge 212; Potomac Post 202 American Legion; Williamsport and Downsville Ruritan.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Esther A. Shank Snook; three daughters, Susan M. Langenstein of Hagerstown, Robin L. Dagenhart of Boonsboro, and Cathy A. Roane of Martinsburg, W.Va.; two sons, Robert H. Snook Jr. of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Michael C. Lewis at home; a sister, Helen Doub of Williamsport; three brothers, William Snook of Shepherdstown, W.Va., Edward Snook of Clear Spring and Donald Snook of Smithsburg; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Martin L. Snook.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Downsville Christian Church, 8641 Downsville Pike, Williamsport. The Rev. Reese Davis will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, which will be open after 9 a.m.
