Mary E. Shields
WILLIAMSPORT - Mary Elizabeth Weaver Shields, 94, formerly of Oak Hill Avenue in Hagerstown, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Williamsport Retirement Village.
Born Oct. 13, 1905, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Hershey H. and Lillie Anna Salome Brunk Weaver.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Paull Seward Shields Sr.
She was a 1924 graduate of Harrisonburg High School and attended Hollins College.
She was employed by Washington County Free Library, where she managed the inter-library loan program.
She is survived by two sons, Paull Seward Shields Jr. and Henry Seward Shields; grandnieces and grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Humphrey, in 1930.
Burial will be in Harrisonburg, Va.

Carl W. Teays
Carl William "Karl" Teays, 63, of 11907 Harp Road, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at University of Maryland Hospital.
Born June, 17, 1936, in Berryville, Va., he was the son of the late Robert Edward Sr. and Daisy Virginia Tomblin Teays.
He was employed as a truck driver and a security guard for Tri State Motor Transit in Northeast, Md.
He served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was a Baptist.
He was a member of AARP.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Smith Teays; four sons, Michael Lynn Teays of Florida, Mark Anthony Teays, Scott William Teays and James Robert Teays, all of Hagerstown; a brother, Robert E. Teays Jr. of Sharpsburg; a sister, Elizabeth Teays Ledger of Massachusetts; two granddaughters; two grandsons; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. John C. Koontz Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Harbaugh's Cemetery, Rouzerville, Pa.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mary L. Appleby
MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Mary Lee Appleby, 70, of 212 Broad St., died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at Glade Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Walkersville, Md.
Born Jan. 26, 1929, in Woodsboro, Md., she was the daughter of the late Carl Lee and Grace Mae Beard Keeney.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown, where she sang in the choir and had served on various committees.
She is survived by her husband, A. Eugene Appleby; a daughter, Gail M. Mathews of Walkersville; a son, Gene L. Appleby of Middletown; two sisters, Ruth L. Fuller of Severn, Md., and Isabel Lakin of Walkersville; two brothers, C. Monroe Keeney of Middletown and Harold T. Keeney of Frederick, Md.; and two grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown. The Rev. Donald L. Turley will officiate. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown.

Doris L. Kline
Doris L. Kline, 74, of Hagerstown, and formerly of Rockville, Md., died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, Rockville.
She was born Aug. 29, 1925, in New Market, Va.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garland E. Kline.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Bauman of Bumpass, Va., and Diane Radamacher of Kearneysville, W.Va.; two sons, Wayne Kline of Atlanta, Ga., and Gary Kline of Waynesboro, Pa.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Pumphrey's Funeral Home, 300 W. Montgomery Ave., Rockville. The Rev. Ross Forcey will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Park, Rockville.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Irene R. Burris
BOONSBORO - Irene Routzahn Burris, 87, of 21256 Mt. Lena Road, died, Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 27, 1912, in Beaver Creek, Md., she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Mary K. Reese Routzahn.
Her husband, Jesse Moore Burris, died Jan. 3, 1950.
She retired from the Law Offices of Martin V.B. Bostetter in Hagerstown.
She was a Protestant.
She is survived by a son, William A. Routzahn Sr. of Boonsboro; a granddaughter, Pamela Routzahn-Cosens of Boonsboro; a grandson, William A. Routzahn Jr. of Boonsboro; five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Boonsboro Cemetery, Boonsboro. The Rev. Jonathan Laye will officiate.
There will be no evening viewing or visitation.
Arrangements are by Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.
Samuel W. Buskirk
HANCOCK - Samuel W. Buskirk, 54, of Round Top Road, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
Born July 5, 1945, in Lonaconing, Md., he was the son of the late Samuel Harold and Mary Ellen Legeer Buskirk.
He was a 1963 graduate of Hancock High School.
He was employed with Fleetwood Industries, Hancock.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1964 to 1970, leaving with the rank of sergeant.
He was a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church, Warfordsburg, Pa.
He was a member of Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion, Hancock.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda L. Roman Buskirk; two sons, Scott Wayne Buskirk of Warfordsburg and T.J. Buskirk of Hancock; a sister, Janice L. Coffman of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; a half-brother, Harold Buskirk of Midland, Md.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Christian Church, 3013 Pleasant Grove Road, Warfordsburg. The Revs. Denver A. Plessinger and Robert D. Smith Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery with military honors being conducted by Tri-State Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock, and Tuesday at the church one hour prior to the service. For the convenience of friends the funeral home will be open from 3 to 9 p.m. today.
