Chloe N. Hamby

Chloe Noel Hamby, 3, of 19730 Cool Hollow Road, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at her home.

Born Dec. 12, 1996, in Frederick, Md., she was the daughter of Qwen Michelle Lowe of Hagerstown and Eric Shawn Hamby of Frederick.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by maternal grandparents, Dinah Marie Reall of Princess Ann, Md., and Richard Otto Lowe of Cumming, Ga.; paternal grandparents, Richard Leon Hamby of Dickerson, Md., and Patricia Renee Hamby of Poolsville, Md.; maternal great-grandparents, Herman Leroy Jr. and Bessie Bernice Reed of Hagerstown; maternal great-great-grandfather, Herman Leroy Reed Sr. of Buckeystown, Md.; godparents, Malcolm Wayne Reed, Peggy Ann Lowe and Cindy Sue Reed, all of Hagerstown; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Michael Vario will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lillian M. Roberts

SHARPSBURG - Lillian Mildred Munson Roberts, 90, of 2539 Chestnut Grove Road, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 4, 1909, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late James William and Pleasant Ella Norris Munson.

Her husband, Walter Earl Roberts, died May 21, 1989.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Church of God Universal, Hagerstown.

She is survived by eleven daughters, Rose Roberts, Virginia Stallings, Violet Cooper, Winifred Brawner, Lorna Roberts, and Laurel Shoemaker, all of Hagerstown, Delores Walling of Smithsburg, Gnetta Semler and Leila Shatzer, both of Sharpsburg, Joyce Holder of Keedysville, and Gwendolyn Roberts of Clear Spring; seven sons, Walter Roberts of Knoxville, Edward Roberts and Roland Roberts, both of Keedysville, John Roberts of Hagerstown, Jeremiah Roberts of St. James, Md., Allen Roberts of Sharpsburg, and Daniel Roberts of Walfordsburg, Pa.; 78 grandchildren; 98 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, James Roberts; three grandsons; a granddaughter; six sisters, Columbia Munson, Marie Truax, Margaret Munson, Ella May Everitts, Vesta Munson, and Reba Munson; and three brothers, Vernon Munson, Archibold Munson and Ronald Munson.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Alvin Craig will officiate. Burial will be in Brownsville Heights Cemetery, Brownsville, Md.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may call anytime Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Universal Church of God, 12811 Point Salem Road, Hagerstown, MD 21740; Sharpsburg Area Emergency Medical Services, P.O. Box 301, Sharpsburg, MD 21782 or to Potomac Valley Fire Company, 2202 Dargan School Road, Sharpsburg, MD 21782.

James E. Kline

James Elmer Kline, 68, of 428 W. Antietam St., Hagerstown, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at his home.

Born Jan. 2, 1932, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Russell and Naoma Williams Kline.

He was the owner and operator of Kline's Cabinet Shop in Boonsboro and Kline's Woodworking in Ocala, Fla.

He was a Baptist.

He is survived by a daughter, Darlene Elizabeth Violet of Keedysville; a brother, Charles Robert Kline of Lonaconing, Md.; and a grandson, Wayne Elmer Violet of Keedysville.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William Kline.

Graveside services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, 17636 W. Washington St. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Bruce Gephart will officiate.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown.

Effie M. Socks

Effie Mae Socks, 82, of 210 Devonshire Road, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.

Born May 30, 1917, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late David Albert and Lydia Grace Curfman Gossard.

She retired from the Washington County Department of Social Services.

She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, and was a Sunday school teacher.

She was a former Girl Scout leader.

She is survived by seven daughters, Nancy Jean Langenstein of Summerville, S.C., Connie Perry of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Clara Ann Buchanan of Greencastle, Pa., Shirley Stephens and Sharon Schrock, both of Hagerstown, Glenda McLucas of Myersville, Md., and Alice Gettel of Falling Waters, W.Va.; three sons, Robert Socks and David Socks, both of Hagerstown, and Donald Socks of Clear Spring; three sisters, Edith Gaylor, Mary Ruth Craig and Freda Wempe, all of Hagerstown; two brothers, Charles Gossard of Hagerstown and Evers Gossard of Salisbury, Md.; 30 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Ethel Bowman, Alice Lumm and Nancy Slifer; and four brothers, Joseph Gossard, Albert Gossard, Robert Gossard and William Gossard.

Services will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dennis L. Upton will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 802 Summit Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Dorothy L. Mellott

CLEAR SPRING - Dorothy Louise Mellott, 84, of 13530 Blairs Valley Road, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at St. Joseph Medical Hospital in Baltimore.

Born Dec. 14, 1915, in Blairs Valley, she was the daughter of the late Amos James and Minnie Mae Clopper Rowland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Alvin Mellott, in 1993.

She was a homemaker.

She was a life member of Blairs Valley First Church of God, where she was a member of Church of God Women's Ministry Group.

She is survived by six daughters, Peggy J. Helser, Bonnie R. Mills, Brenda K. Myers, Patty A. Barnhart, Beverly L. Hawbaker and Nancy L. Rosenberry, all of Clear Spring; two sons, Ronald M. Mellott and Charles A. Mellott, both of Clear Spring; a sister, Thelma Bragunier of Clear Spring; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis James Rowland.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Blairs Valley First Church of God. The Rev. Sterling Keeney will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike in Clear Spring. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open Monday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Blairs Valley First Church of God, Community Building Fund, c/o Teresa Deeds, Treasurer, 13241 Draper Road, Clear Spring, MD 21722.

Jaunita F. Bishop

PHOENIX - Jaunita F. Bishop, 63, of 4417 12th Street, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Casa Grande, Ariz.

Born Feb. 16, 1936, in Taylor, Neb., she was the daughter of Mildred Carr of Torrington, Wyo. and the late Walter Todd.

She was a Mormon.

She was active in both the Martinsburg, W.Va., and Hagerstown Alcoholics Anonymous chapters.

She is survived by three daughters, Linda Barnes of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Jolene Guessford and Caroline Horst, both of Hagerstown; a son, Donald William Reigh of Hagerstown; five sisters, Barbara Fraze of Chandler, Ariz., Marge Kaufman of Lymon, Neb., Joyce Graziano of Commerce City, Colo., Patsy Knighton of Reading, Calif., and Doris Todd of Lander, Wyo.; three brothers, William Todd of Brighton, Colo., George Todd of Belen, N.M., and Bernard Carr of Yoder, Wyo.; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Philips, a grandson, and a great-granddaughter.

A private memorial service will be Wednesday at 149 King St. in Hagerstown.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
