Harold E. McCarty Sr.
HANCOCK - Harold Earl McCarty Sr., 80, of Exline Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 21, 1919, in Hancock, he was the son of the late Earl N. and Margaret E. Starliper McCarty.
He retired as a lieutenant from the Washington County Sheriff's Department.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1936 to 1939. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was a member of American Legion Post, Mercersburg, Pa.; F.O.P.; N.R.A.; Tonoloway Rod and Gun Club; and USS Arizona Reunion Association.
He was a member of St. Thomas' Episcopal Church in Hancock.
He is survived by his wife, Annie G. Cunningham McCarty of Hagerstown; three sons, Christopher J. McCarty of Hancock, Harold E. McCarty Jr. of Oakton, Va., and Timothy A. McCarty of Hagerstown; a sister, Mary Ann Mortzfeldt of Hancock; five brothers, Otho McCarty, Charles McCarty, Donald McCarty and Paul McCarty, all of Hancock, and Roger McCarty of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by a brother, George McCarty.
Services with military honors conducted be members of Tri-State Honor Guard will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, 2 E. High St. in Hancock. The Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt Jr. will officiate.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St. in Hancock.

Glessner C. Boward
Glessner C. "Gus" Boward, 88, of 17521 York Road, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at his home.
Born March 16, 1911, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late William H. and Emma C. Schindel Boward.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances E. Gossard Boward, in 1988.
He retired as a letter carrier from the U.S. Postal Service.
He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.
He was an active member of National Rural Letter Carriers Association; National Association of Retired Federal Employees; and Moose Lodge No. 2462.
He is survived by a daughter, Jill M. Patterson of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a son, Jack A. Boward of Cockeysville, Md.; a brother, Robert W. Boward of Smithsburg; a grandson; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Boward.
Services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Stephen D. Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m.; and Friday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Edward S. Larimore
Edward Stouffer Larimore, 60, of 116 Bryan Place, and formerly of Leathers Road in Smithsburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 30, 1939, in Edgemont, Md., he was the son of the late Walter K. and Alice May Stouffer Larimore.
He attended Washington County Association of Retarded Citizens.
He is survived by two sisters, Frances Larimore of Smithsburg and Nancy R. Hellane of Hagerstown; one brother, Richard K. Larimore of Hagerstown; two nieces; one nephew; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
Robert B. Harsh
Robert Benjamin Harsh, 93, of 616 Guilford Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Avalon Manor in Hagerstown.
Born in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Robert Hamilton and Emma Gertrude Marr Harsh.
He was employed by Harper and Row Publishing in Hagerstown, retiring in 1973.
He was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church in Williamsport.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Alice Virginia Stewart Harsh; caregivers, Mervin and Barbara Harsh of Greencastle, Pa.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Emma C. Harsh; and two brothers, Nelson A. Harsh Sr. and George L. Harsh.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. James E. Swecker will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open after 9 a.m.

William Hammer
William "Fred" Hammer, 89, of 436 Ridge Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at his home.
Born Oct. 19, 1910, in Altoona, Pa., he was the son of the late William and Violet Hammer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine S. Hammer, in 1990.
He retired from Fairchild Aircraft.
He is survived by a daughter, Violet Mae Goss of Hagerstown; a granddaughter, Linda Mae White of Hagerstown; and a grandson, Blake William Lee Goss of Sharpsburg.
Burial and services will be held at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.
The family requests the omission of flowers.

Orville E. Martin
MAUGANSVILLE - Orville Elwood Martin, 79, of 13929 Distant View Ave., died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, in the emergency room of Washington County Hospital.
Born Sept. 7, 1920, in Cearfoss, Md., he was the son of the late Abraham and Bertha Meyers Martin.
He was a farmer and equipment salesman for Showalter's Implements in Maugansville.
He was a member of Lanes Run Mennonite Church in Big Pool, Md.; and was ordained as a deacon in the church in 1970. He served with the Mennonite Disaster Service.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Pauline Mae Martin Martin; four daughters, Elsie Horst of Hagerstown, Minerva Martin of Greencastle, Pa., Nancy Martin of Newburg, Pa. and Shirley Martin of Ephrata, Pa.; three sons, Clair Martin of Maugansville, Roy Martin of Greencastle and Robert Martin of Hagerstown; three sisters, Emma Burkholder of Hagerstown, Naomi Eby of State Line, Pa. and Mable Martin of Smithsburg; a brother, Ira Martin of Hagerstown; 31 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and two grandsons.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Mount Olive Mennonite Church on Maugansville Road in Hagerstown. Bishop Glenn Martin and Ministers Lester Burkholder and Allen Strite will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St. in Greencastle, Pa.; and Saturday at 9 a.m. at the church.
