Ruth E. Hoffman
BOONSBORO - Ruth E. Hoffman, 76, of 19833 Harmony Hill Lane, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 15, 1923, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Hilda Miller Black.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Boonsboro and the W.E.L.C.A.
She was a member of Lappans Homemakers Club.
She is survived by her husband, Paul W. Hoffman; four daughters, Beverly DeBaugh, Sharon Semler and Ruth Leizear, all of Boonsboro, and Susan Schuck of Portland, Texas; two sons, Kenneth Hoffman of Boonsboro and Robert Hoffman of Hagerstown; one brother, Robert Black of Pittsburgh; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Melvin Black.
Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boonsboro. The Rev. Joseph I. Donovan III will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, today from 7 to 9 p.m.; and at the church Friday at 9:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of Trinity Lutheran Church, 64 S. Main St., Boonsboro, MD 21713.
Doris M. Showe
WILLIAMSPORT - A graveside service for Doris Mae Showe, 76, of 15647 Clear Spring Road, who died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport. The Rev. Richard A. Kroll will officiate.
There will be no viewing.
Arrangements are by Osborne Funeral Home, Williamsport.
Lillian M. Semler
CRISFIELD, Md. - Lillian M. Semler, 95, of Annemessex Ridge in Crisfield, and formerly of Washington, D.C., died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at Manokin Manor Nursing Home in Princess Anne, Md.
Born near Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late William and Carrie Miner.
Her husband, Harlan S. Semler, died in 1953.
She was a retired salesperson at the Hecht Co. department store in Washington, D.C.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Chillum, Md.
She is survived by one daughter, Lois M. Chew of Crisfield; three sisters, Grace Miner of Hagerstown, Nora Dovel of Harrisonburg, Va., and Doris Stouffer of Frederick, Md.; nine grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Smallwood; and one son, Harlan Semler.
Graveside services and burial were held at Fort Lincoln cemetery in Washington, D.C.
Arrangements were by Bradshaw and Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield.
Paul A. Sullivan
Paul Albert "Bill" Sullivan, 85, of 1041 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at Homewood Retirement Center in Williamsport.
Born Nov. 29, 1914, in Brunswick, Md., he was the son of the late Thomas Herodias and Ella Mae Fouche Sullivan.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 33 years, Martha Naomi Deaner Sullivan, in 1967; and his second wife of 24 years, Kathleen W. Pierce Hunt Sullivan, in 1994.
He retired from Fairchild Aircraft in 1978.
He was a member of Brownsville Church of the Brethren.
He was a member of AARP; and a former member of Pleasant Valley Ruritan Club.
He is survived by a daughter, Kay F. Crotsley of Huntingdon, Pa.; a son, Thomas Paul Sullivan of Hagerstown; a stepdaughter, Sheryl Goodall of Floral City, Fla.; a sister, Ella Mae Barton of Baltimore; five granddaughters; a step-granddaughter; three great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Maude Virginia Younkins, Susie Elizabeth Hanes, Mary Loretta Sullivan and Annie May Sullivan; and five brothers, James Franklin Sullivan, Maurice W. Sullivan, Johnnie Leslie Sullivan, George Leo Sullivan and Thomas Luther Sullivan.
Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Brownsville Church of the Brethren. Burial will be in Brownsville Heights Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro; and Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the church.

Helen M. Sprankle
Helen Mae Sprankle, 83, formerly of 217 Nottingham Road, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at Western Maryland Hospital.
Born Jan. 30, 1916, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Elvin H. and Nellie Mae Tribby Follin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond L. Sprankle, in 1997.
She sold Avon products.
She was a member of Christ Fellowship Assembly of God.
She is survived by two daughters, Connie M. Thomas of Boonsboro and Donna L. Baer of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; a sister, Katherine Little of Waynesboro, Pa.; a brother, James Follin of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. The Revs. Arnold F. Brown and Les Clipp will officiate. Burial will be in Broadfording Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Irene L. Stover
Irene Loretta Stover, 93, of 17528 Virginia Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 11, 1906, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charley W. and Emma Uglow Kunkle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Franklin Stover Sr., in 1991.
She is survived by a daughter, Shirley L. Paine of Woodbridge, Va.; two sons, George F. Stover Jr. and Roland L. Stover, both of Hagerstown; a sister, Charlotte Vick of Hagerstown; two brothers, Charley W. Kunkle Jr. and Jack V. Kunkle, both of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Metz and Louise McCallum; and a brother, Roland Kunkle.
Services will be Friday at 11:30 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Terry Hoke will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
