Ruth S. Eckert
MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Ruth S. Eckert, 79, of 4494 Pinewood Trail, died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at her home.
Born Jan. 19, 1920, in Martinsburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Omar H. and Grace Mong Small.
She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church Zion, Middletown.
She was a member of Order of Eastern Star 79, Frederick, and she was a Red Cross volunteer.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Cleo L. Eckert, and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Stevens Lancaster.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown. The Rev. William M. Bucher will officiate. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown, and Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
The Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 79 will conduct memorial services tonight at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Roy E. Zittle Jr.
Roy Ellsworth "Pete" Zittle Jr., 68, of Hagerstown, died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
Born July 9, 1931, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Roy E. Sr. and Bertha May Boward Zittle.
He retired as a corectional officer with the State of Maryland in 1999 with the rank of major.
He served with the Army in the Korean War.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and an associate member of St. Peters (Beards) Lutheran Church.
He was a member of American Legion Morris Frock Post 42 and also the Korean Veterans Last Man's Club. He was a member of Eagles Club Inc. of Waynesboro, and B.P.O. Elks Lodge 378, where he was serving as trustee. He was a manager and coach for 18 years at Valley Little League.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Phyllis A. Taylor Zittle; two sons, Christopher J. Zittle of Williamsport and David A. Zittle of Hagerstown; a twin sister, Peggy Ann Zittle of Hagerstown; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy E. Zittle, Daisy V. Zittle, Virginia M. Walsh and two granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Edward H. Heim will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home. B.P.O. Elks Lodge 378 will offer a memorial service this evening.

Matthew E. Miller
CLEAR SPRING - Matthew Edward Miller, 26, of 15262 Fairview Road, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at 5 Cypress Street, Hagerstown.
Born April 22, 1973, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Robert Eugene and Anna Belle Welsh Miller.
He was a 1991 graduate of North Hagerstown High School.
He was employed at First Data Corp. in Hagerstown.
He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
He was a member of Living History Organization, where he served in the 3rd Arkansas Infantry Company H.
He was a soccer coach in Clear Spring and he also competed in the Mid Atlantic Snow Boarding Competitions.
He is survived by his wife, Amy Lynn Miller; one son, Noah Eugene Miller at home; one sister, Tamela Lynn Haynes of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers, his twin, Mark Eugene Miller of Smithsburg and Richard Allen Miller of Grapevine, Texas; several aunts; one uncle; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Donald R. Moul will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Agnes V. Wilson
BALTIMORE - Agnes Vivian Wilson, 88, of 3017 Echodale Ave., died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at Colton Villa Nursing Home in Hagerstown.
Born Dec. 10, 1911, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Bertha Lorek.
Her husband, Edward F. Wilson, died in 1947.
She was employed by Union Stock Yards and retired from North Charles Doctor's Hospital in Baltimore.
She was a member of St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church in Baltimore.
She is survived by three sons, Dr. Joseph R. Wilson of Hagerstown, Francis E. Wilson of San Diego and Edward F. Wilson of Chediston, Halesworth, Suffolk, England; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary C. Rolfes and Helen Lorek; and three brothers, Frank Lorek, Andrew Lorek and John Lorek.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Burial will be in St. Stanislaus cemetery in Baltimore.
There will be no viewing.
Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
Juanita J. Attleson
WALDORF, Md. - Juanita J. "Cookie" Attleson, 46, of Waldorf, died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born July 26, 1953, in Iaeger, W.Va., she was the daughter of Ersel Jones and Melvia Hager Jones of Covington, Va.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, David Attleson; one daughter, Leanne Sorrells of Laurel, Md.; and two sisters, Kay Jones of Falls Church, Va., and Candy Olsen of Odenton, Md.
Services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg, W.Va. Burial will be private.
Lillie M. Palmer
Lillie May Shupp Palmer, 84, of 249 S. Mulberry St., Hagerstown, and a resident of Colton Villa Nursing Center, died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born near Clear Spring on Dec. 23, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Joseph M. Shupp and Martha Hose Shupp.
Her husband, Albert G. Palmer, died in 1993.
She was a graduate of Clear Spring High School.
She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by one daughter, Joan D. Palmer Williams of Smithsburg; one granddaughter, Valerie S. Williams of Smithsburg; and eight nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Martha E. Firey, and one brother, Edward R. Shupp.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. David B. Kaplin will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul cemetery in Clear Spring.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
