Lillian T. Christy
Lillian Theresa "Linda" Christy, 63, of 13822 Northcrest Road, Hagerstown, died Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 7, 1936, in Milwaukee, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Philis Koceja Winski.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Carl L. Christy; two daughters, Patricia Ann Anderson of Parker, Colo.; and Joan Marie Davey of Grand Junction, Colo.; three sons, Robert C. Christy of Hagerstown, William J. Christy of Waynesboro, Pa., and John J. Christy of Williamsport; two sisters, Margaret Milks and Rose Tolson, both of Milwaukee; two brothers, James Winski and Leonard Winski, both of Milwaukee and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Angeline Winski and Christen Winski and one brother, Alexander Winski.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. The Rev. Alfred E. Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mary V. Doarnberger
Services for Mary Virginia Doarnberger, 86, of 1145 Beechwood Drive, Hagerstown, who died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, will be today at 3 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Fred M. Harris will officiate.
Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends today following the service at the funeral home until 5 p.m.
Thelma C. Shaffer
MAUGANSVILLE - Thelma Catherine Shaffer, 65, of 13831 Greenfield Ave., died Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at her home.
Born Feb. 24, 1934, in Deer Park, Md., she was the daughter of the late Frederick Luther and Rachel Elizabeth Schmidt Walter Sr.
She was a former employee of Englanders Pharmacy in Oakland, Md., and was later employed by Food Fair in Hagerstown.
She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.
She was a member of Morris Frock Unit 42 American Legion Women's Auxiliary, Ladies of the Elks 378 and Woodmen of the World. She also was a life member of VFW Post 7234 Ladies Auxiliary in Ocean View, Del.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Wade C. Shaffer; a daughter, Sheree S. Rummel of Hagerstown; a sister, Dorothy M. Simpson of Mountain Lake Park, Md.; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lula Walter; and three brothers, Frederick Luther Walter Jr., Arthur Walter and Herman Walter.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven cemetery in Hagerstown.
Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

John D. Knode
WASHINGTON, D.C. - John David Knode, formerly of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.
Born March 28, 1947, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late William Webster and Pearl Glenna Hasenbuhler Knode.
He was a graduate of South Hagerstown High School; and Shepherd College.
Previously, he was an eighth-grade history teacher at Brookland Park/Lindale Middle School in Arundel County, Md.
He is survived by a brother, William L. Knode of Hagerstown; two sisters, Nancy L. Ward of Paw Paw, W.Va., and Glenna M. Hull of Crownsville, Md.; a niece; and two nephews.
A memorial service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Chevy Chase United Methodist Church, 7001 Connecticut Ave. in Chevy Chase, Md.
Burial will be private in Mountain View cemetery in Sharpsburg.
There will be no viewing.

Clayton H. Starliper
Services for Clayton H. Starliper, 79, of 1617 Dual Highway, Hagerstown, and formerly of 2425 Hillside Ave., Orange City, Fla., who died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St. in Greencastle. The Rev. Ralph L. Fry and the Rev. Donald Bender will officiate. Burial will be in Brown's Mill cemetery in Antrim Township, Pa.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

James A. Hathaway
MAUGANSVILLE - James Allen Hathaway, 70, of 13923 Greenfield Ave., died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 16, 1929, in Bridgeport, W.Va., he was the son of the late Allen and Elizabeth Williams Hathaway.
He retired from Penn Line Service Inc. in March 1994.
He served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C., from 1948 to 1952.
He was a member of Emmanual United Methodist Church.
He was a member of American Legion Dixon Troxell Post 211 of Funkstown.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Beverly Ash Hathaway; two sons, James Allen Hathaway of Myersville, Md., and Daniel Kenneth Hathaway of Williamsport; two sisters, Lois Preston of Hepzibah, W.Va., and Mary Elizabeth Mouser of Anmoore, W.Va.; two brothers, Robert Hathaway of Bridgeport, W.Va., and Howard Hathaway of Meadowbrook, W.Va.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Martin.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North in Hagerstown. The Rev. Dennis L. Upton will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.

Lois H. Rowland
Lois H. Rowland, 82, of 1415 Hamilton Blvd., Hagerstown, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at her home.
Born Sept. 6, 1917, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Robert Roscoe and Jessie Susan Hollenberger Rowland.
She was employed by Western Maryland Railway Company.
She was a member of First Christian Church.
She was a member of Conococheague Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, George Stake Chapter U.S. Daughters of 1812, The Women's Club, Crossroads Garden Club, Washington County Historical Society, and AARP.
She was the last surviving member of her family.
Graveside services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 S. Potomac St. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Fred M. Harris will officiate.
It was her request to have no viewing.
