Minnie L. Hardy
KNOXVILLE, Md. - Minnie Louise Spriggs Hardy, 84, of 3916 South Mountain Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at her home.
Born Jan. 7, 1915, in Brunswick, Md., she was the daughter of the late David and Marie Nicholas Spriggs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Carlton Hardy Sr., in 1993.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Petersville, Md.
She is survived by five daughters, Joan M. Morris of Ocean City, N.J., Doris H. Savoy and Sandra E. Hardy, both of Washington, D.C., and Kaye C. Coates and Dolores L. King, both of Brunswick; two sons, Ronald L. Hardy of Knoxville, Md., and George C. Hardy Jr. of Roanoke, Va.; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia B. Hannah; a sister, Melnee Spriggs; and a brother, David Spriggs.
Services will be Monday, Dec. 6, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Petersville. The Rev. Frank Ernst will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick, Md.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road in Brunswick. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. The funeral home will be open Sunday from 9 a.m.
Eric R. Gift
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Eric R. Gift, 42, of Westminster, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at his home.
Born Nov. 3, 1957, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of Richard T. and M. Louise Eshelman Gift of Chambersburg.
He was a 1975 graduate of Chambersburg Area High School.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy after high school and served until 1997, when he retired. He was employed by Norwest Bank in Columbia, Md. as a computer technologist.
He was a member of Kingstreet United Brethren Church in Chambersburg.
He was a member of American Legion Post 46 in Chambersburg.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Jennifer A. Gift of Baltimore; and a sister, Stacy R. Green of Hagerstown.
Memorial services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road in Westminster. The Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate.
Private burial will be at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends Saturday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Boyd Fore Jr.
EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. - Boyd Fore Jr., 80, of 935 Old Bridge Turnpike, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at Fulton County Medical Center in McConnellsburg, Pa.
Born April 4, 1919, in Knobsville, Pa., he was the son of the late Boyd B. Sr. and Janet Gobin Fore.
He was a graduate of McConnellsburg High School. He received a degree in Forestry from Penn State University. He was a member of Alpha Zeta Morrell Chapter at Penn State; and a member of Penn State's men's varsity baseball team.
He was a personnel manager for Hercules Inc.
He was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church in Old Bridge, N.J., and held various offices.
He was a police commissioner and an elected township councilman in East Brunswick. He was a member of Narrows Gun Club, Knobsville, Pa.; and Hercules Rod and Gun Club, N.J.
He had been a semi-pro baseball player with the Eastern Shore League.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Keith Fore, whom he married
Dec. 30, 1942; a daughter, Diane Fore Saya of Old Bridge; three sons, Michael K. Fore of Rohnert Park, Calif., Dr. David R. Fore of Fort Myers, Fla. and Larry R. Fore of East Brunswick; two brothers, Fred Barmont Fore of Chambersburg, Pa., and John Richard Fore of Blacksburg, Va.; and two grandsons.
He was preceded in death by a sister; and a brother, Robert Jack Fore.
A memorial service will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Simpson United Methodist Church, Route 516 in Old Bridge. The Rev. Charnell Kolm will officiate.

James E. Kovacich
James Edward Kovacich, 85, of 516 N. Mulberry St., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Dec. 18, 1913, in Braddock, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph and Cecilia Kovacich.
He was employed by Pangborn Corp.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of First Brethren Church in Hagerstown.
He was a member of American Legion Funkstown Post 211; National Association of Civilian Conservation Corps Alumni; and U.A.W. Local 842.
He is survived by his wife, Lena M. Kovacich; two daughters, Dixie Smith of Hagerstown and Dolores Harne of Waynesboro, Pa.; two sisters, Julia Pintar and Barbara DeCeasa, both of East Pittsburgh; two brothers, Francis I. Kovacich of Fayetteville, N.C., and Stephen Kovacich of Braddock, Pa.; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Nicholas Kovacich.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Bruce Foster will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Wilma J. Smith
Wilma J. Smith, 78, of McGregor Drive, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, at Western Maryland Hospital Center.
Born March 8, 1921, in Sterling, Kan., she was the daughter of the late Earl J. and Lucetta G. Heter Dymond.
She was a member of New Life Victory Center Church in Hagerstown.
She attended Williamsport Senior Citizens Center.
She is survived by a daughter Myra K. Smith of Hagerstown; a son, Elvin R. Smith of Denver; a sister, Norma M. Johnston of Sterling; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 5:30 p.m. at New Life Victory Center Church.

Harry M. Hammond
DENTON, Md. - Harry Martin Hammond, 88, of Denton, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at Easton (Md.) Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 31, 1910, near Strasburg, Va., he was the son of the late William Hubert and Clara Emma Miller Hammond.
He was a 1930 graduate of Handley High School in Winchester, Va. He received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Virginia in 1934. He was elected to Tau Beta Pi and Theta Tau fraternities. He was a member of Thomas Jefferson Society of Alumni.
He worked for Virginia Woolen Co.; and then for Potomac Edison Co., including as superintendent of the R. Paul Smith Power Station in Williamsport. He retired as director of power station operation for Allegheny Power Systems in 1975. He was a consulting engineer for Gibbs and Hill Co. and Sanderson and Porter Co. in New York City and C.G. Wright Construction Co. in Richmond, Va.
He was a member of Southern Methodist Church.
He was a member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers and Allegheny Power System Veterans' Association. He was a registered professional engineer in Maryland; a Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts of America in Winchester; member of Civil War Roundtable, Kiwanis Club of Hagerstown, Rotary Club of Greensburg, and Denton, Md., and Caroline County Historical Society.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ethel Cecilia Kemper Hammond; two daughters, Helen C. Nussear of Denton, and M. Virginia Conmy of Richmond, Va.; two sons, the Rev. H. Martin Hammond Jr. of Baltimore, and William Kemper Hammond of Severna Park, Md.; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Bessie M. Hammond, Lois Hammond, Emma V. Hammond, Eunice L. Puckett and Kathryn H. Rhea.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m. at St. Isaac Jogues Roman Catholic Church, 9400 Old Harford Road, Baltimore, with the Rev. H. Martin Hammond Jr. as celebrant.
