William H. Trotter Sr.
William Hall Trotter Sr., 78, a resident of Avalon Manor in Hagerstown and formerly of 403 Fontaine St. in Alexandria, Va., died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 13, 1921, in Charlotte, N.C., he was the son of the late Millard F. and Lois Hall Hendershot Trotter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Stritch Trotter, in 1997.
He was employed as an International Trade Specialist for the U.S. Commerce Department, retiring in 1990.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres in the U.S. Army.
He attended St. James Brethren Church in St. James.
He was a member of Alexandria Lodge AF&AM, where he was involved with Knights Templar and Scottish Rite, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Sons of American Revolution, and Boy Scouts of America, receiving numerous awards for his volunteer work.
He was involved with historical preservation and community historical work.
He is survived by a daughter, Kathleen S. Hacker of Alexandria; two sons, William H. Trotter Jr. of Sharpsburg and Mitchell A. Trotter of Alexandria; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Bertram T. Trotter.
Memorial services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at St. James Brethren Church, 17718 Lappans Road in St. James. The Rev. Brian Moore will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Presbyterian cemetery of Oldtown in Alexandria.
There will be no public viewing.
The family requests the omission of flowers.

Helen L. Paul
WILLIAMSPORT - Helen Louise Long Paul, 75, of 111 W. Potomac St., died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 26, 1924, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Glen and Edna Pearl Mowen Whittington.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Francis Edwin Long in 1983, and her second husband, Benjamin Franklin Paul, in 1999.
She was a homemaker.
She attended Gateway Ministries in Williamsport.
She is survived by three daughters, Patricia A. Plotner and Lisa A. Vandruff, both of Williamsport, and Peggy A. Mussolino of Falling Waters, W.Va.; two sons, Glen E. Long and Jeffery A. Long, both of Williamsport; a sister, Phyllis Whipp of Williamsport; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Edwin Long; and two brothers, Robert Whittington and Merle Whittington.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St. in Williamsport. The Rev. Don Eveson will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport.
Friends may call Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral home will be open Sunday after 9 a.m. for the convenience of family and friends.

Effie J. Harsh
WILLIAMSPORT - Effie Josephine Harsh, 94, of 128 E. Potomac St., died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 10, 1905, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Rollie Amma and Sarah Lucretia Eccard Arnsparger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin David Harsh Sr., in 1964.
She was a homemaker and also owned and operated M.D. Harsh Meats in Williamsport with her husband.
She served as an aircraft spotter during World War II.
She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Williamsport.
She was a member of AARP and Williamsport Senior Citizens Group.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty J. Harsh Stenger and Suzanne L. Harsh Kershner, both of Williamsport; a son, Martin D. Harsh Jr. of Williamsport; a sister, Lorraine A. Blickenstaff of Halfway; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Kauffman; and four brothers, Richard Arnsparger, Leo Arnsparger, Harold Arnsparger and Oscar Arnsparger.
Graveside services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 127 Britner Ave. in Williamsport. The Rev. W. Gregory Martin will officiate.

Louis F. Turner
Louis Ferrel Turner, 81, of 11900 Turners Lane, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Oct. 20, 1918, in Paramount, Md., he was the son of the late Amos and Alice Mae Baker Turner.
He was retired from Manbeck's Bread Co. after 27 years of service. He had been employed by Stroehman Bread Co. for several years.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl Genevieve Lowans Turner; three daughters, Carole Huffman and Peggy Zeigler, both of Hagerstown, and Shirley Kelbaugh of Williamsport; a sister, Bessie Munson of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Long, June Jenis and Peggy Grimm and two brothers, Ralph Turner and Junior Turner.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Kenneth Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
Helen C. Palladino
Helen C. Palladino, 86, of 11510 Englewood Road, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Sept. 11, 1913, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Fred L. and Erma C. Miller Rudy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Palladino, in 1994.
She was retired from Henneberger Gift Shop and had worked for many years at McPhail's Paint and Glass Shop as the bookkeeper.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She is survived by a son, Robert J. Palladino of Hagerstown; a sister, Mary V. Bean of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara M. Itreyer and a brother, Lloyd L. Rudy.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 224 W. Washington St., Hagerstown. The Rev. George Limmer will be celebrant. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Visitation will be tonight from 5 to 7 at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. Prayers will be said at 7.
