Erna L. Spaulding

Erna Lucie Ann Spaulding, 84, of 17635 Burnside Ave., died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village.

Born Dec. 18, 1914, in Herzfelde, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Heinrich and Emilie Poschitzke Schuetz.

Her husband, Charles E. Spaulding, died July 31, 1999.

She is survived by one son, Charles H. Spaulding of Mars, Pa.; and one sister, Margarete Meihs of Germany.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Leo Schuetz.

Services will be Wednesday at noon at Haven Lutheran Church, 1035 Haven Road. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd.; and Wednesday at the church at 11 a.m.

Margaret E. Shupp

Margaret E. "Peggy" Shupp, 78, of 280 S. Prospect St., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 22, 1921, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Joseph B. and Bessie C. Wolford McCauley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl W. Shupp, in 1995.

She had worked at the old Park Circle Restaurant.

She was a member of Pocahontas of the Williamsport Red Men.

She is survived by two daughters, Shirley J. Lawson of Jacksonville, N.C. and Sandra M. Parlett of Hagerstown; two sons, Bernard C. Shupp and Frank L. Shupp, both of Hagerstown; four sisters, Florence Whipp of Keedysville, Savanah Wynkoop of Hagerstown, Pearl Leggett of Boonsboro and Ruth Turnbo of Newark, Del.; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Tom Stottlemyer will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Thelma E. Reed

Thelma Elizabeth Reed, 81, of Hagerstown, and formerly of Libertytown, Md., died Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 22, 1918, in Jonesville, Va., she was the daughter of the late John Jefferson and Ollie Belle Poteet Perdue.

She retired in 1982 from Springfield State Hospital, Sykesville, Md., as a psychiatric nursing assistant.

She was a supporter of Red Cross and Girls, Inc., of Washington County.

She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Reed Plott of Hagerstown; one sister, Golden Perdue Slaughter of Kingsport, Tenn.; one brother, Thomas E. Perdue of Mt. Carmel, Tenn.; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; nieces and nephews.

She was also assisted during the last two years by a group of ladies from Tender Loving Home Care of Hancock.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Millie Perdue Mustafo, Ada Perdue Johnson Tolbert and Mae Perdue Carter and four brothers, Elmer Perdue, Roscoe Perdue, Erby Perdue and Broaddus Perdue.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dennis L. Upton will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Mable M. Needy

Mable Marie Needy, 84, of 750 Dual Highway, Hagerstown, and formerly of Maugansville, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at Colton Villa Nursing Center.

Born Oct. 22, 1915, in Downsville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Cecil Charles and Blanche Trumpower McAllister.

She was a former employee of Fairchild Aircraft and later was employed by Central Motors Dodge. She also owned and operated Blue Bird Restaurant in Hagerstown for many years.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.

She was a member of Boonsboro American Legion Clopper-Michael Post 10 Auxiliary and held the position of President for American Legion Auxiliary for the State of Maryland.

She is survived by two sisters, Isbelle Mullendore of Gapland, Md. and Joyce Anderson of Knoxville; four brothers, Charles McAllister and Leon McAllister, both of Hagerstown, Carroll McAllister and Robert McAllister, both of Jefferson, Md.; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Allen McAllister.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert C. Lehman will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Anne M. Snyder

Anne M. Snyder, 80, of 18713 Briarwood Drive, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 25, 1919, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Anna Walsh McNamara.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger W. Snyder, in 1959.

She was a graduate of Bellevue School of Nursing in New York City.

She had owned and operated Tobacco Products of Hagerstown. She was a registered nurse and had worked at Bellevue and University of Maryland Hospitals.

She is survived by one daughter, Sharon S. Stouffer of Orville, Calif.; three sisters, Joan Kutch of Cape Cod, Mass., Winifred N. Graeaney of Silver Spring, Md. and Patricia Leathers of Dayton, Ohio; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Dailey and two brothers, Thomas McNamara and Joseph McNamara.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 224 W. Washington St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Jack Fullen will be celebrant. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Visitation will be held today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St. Hagerstown.

Virginia L. Drake

WILLIAMSPORT - Virginia Lane Drake, 82, of 16136 Cloveton Lane, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

Born Feb. 27, 1917, in Falling Waters, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Martha Alice Shupp McElroy.

She was a 1934 graduate of Williamsport High School.

She retired in 1981 from Bon-Ton, as a sales clerk.

She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Williamsport.

She was a member of Post 202 American Legion Auxiliary, Williamsport; past president of Williamsport Parent Teachers Association; past Brownie and Girl Scout Troop leader; member of AARP and past member of Washington County Hospital Auxiliary Volunteers.

She is survived by her husband, Tom F. Drake; two daughters, Patricia L. French of Williamsport and V. Gail Lankford of Annandale, Va.; one son, Thomas E. Drake of Southlake, Texas; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret McElroy and three brothers, Norman McElroy, Ralph McElroy and Paul McElroy.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 37 W. Potomac St., Williamsport. The Rev. W. Gregory Martin will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. For the convenience of friends the funeral home will be open after 11 a.m. today.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 37 West Potomac Street, Williamsport, MD 21795.
