William L. Drake
BOONSBORO - William Lewis "Bill" Drake, 71, of North Main St., died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 19, 1928, in Trego, Md., he was the son of Atha Genevie Norris Drake Ellis of Keedysville and the late William Lewis Drake.
He was retired from the Maryland Correctional Institute as a correctional guard.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War.
He was a member of McClellan Gun Club.
He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Burkett Drake, whom he married
in 1978; two daughters, Barbara Hammond of Keedysville and Wilma Powers of Clear Spring; one stepdaughter, Janie Taylor of Hagerstown; two stepsons, Lee Renner of Elmira, N.Y. and Harold Renner of Funkstown; one sister, Jacqueline Rihard of Sharpsburg; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one brother, George Drake Sr.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Keedysville. The Rev. David L. Coblentz will officiate.
Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 will conduct military honors.
There will be no viewing, however, the family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.

Janice M. Baer
Janice Magaha Baer, 78, of 13220 Fairfax Road, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.
Born Feb. 27, 1921, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Grace Hankey Magaha.
She was a 1939 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
She is survived by one daughter, Deborah Baer Parloto of Hagerstown; one son, John M. Baer Jr. of Wenonah, N.J.; one sister, Marie Lambillotte of Hagerstown; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Virginia Bishop and Madeline Swisher.
She requested that no viewing or memorial services be held following her death, and her family is respecting her wishes. She will be cremated.
The family requests the omission of flowers and that memorial contributions be made to Chambersburg Hospital, 112 North 7th Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201 or to Washington County Hospital, 251 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
Patrick B. King
FAIR HAVEN, Vt. - Patrick Burke King, 47, of Fair Haven, died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 4, 1952, in Rutland, Vt., he was the son of the late Worthington E. and Lois Burke King Jr.
He was a 1972 graduate of Fair Haven Union High School.
He was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fair Haven.
He was an accomplished bowler, successfully bowling several 299 games. He was presented a ring designating that accomplishment.
He is survived by two daughters, Cathleen King and Jillian King, both of Whitehall, N.Y.; two sisters, Janey Flynn of Greencastle, Pa., and Mary Kay Miller of Fair Haven; an aunt; an uncle; a niece; three nephews; and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert King.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fair Haven. The Rev. Richard Tinney will be celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Fair Haven.
The family will receive friends Monday at 10 a.m. at the church.

Haven E. Hoffman
Haven E. Hoffman, 99, of 20433 Trovinger Mill Road, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 30, 1900, in Barnesville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Alonza and Minnie Lee Cline Rice.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Lewis Hoffman, in 1964.
She was employed by Fairchild Aircraft during World War II. She and her husband built the original Black Rock Church, where she taught Sunday School.
She attended Hagerstown Church of Christ on Whitehall Road.
She was "Mrs. Santa Claus" to thousands of children in Washington County for 52 years.
She is survived by three nieces, Doris Rabbitt of Takoma Park, Md., Edna White of Hagerstown and Gladys Hayhoe of Mount Rainer, Md.; and a nephew, James R. Rice of Hyattsville, Md.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Edna M. Holland, Marietta Captolia Souder and Lonnie May Shilling; and a brother, Russell Rice.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Revs. Richard R. Rexrode and Casey Strunk will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Eugene C. Ryan
Eugene Cliften "Rosy" Ryan, 93, formerly of 1008 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999, at Avalon Manor in Hagerstown.
Born Dec. 24, 1905, in Magnolia, W.Va., he was the son of the late John and Minnie Hare Ryan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Fritz Ryan, in 1976.
He retired from Advantage Capital Corp. as a salesman.
He was a member of Washington Square United Methodist Church, where he served on the board of trustees and the finance committee.
He was a member of BPO Elks 378 for more than 60 years and a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 212, Hagerstown Lodge 95 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Ali Ghan Shrine of Cumberland, Md., Hagerstown Shrine, and Scottish Rite of Free Masonary.
He is survived by a brother, Granville Ryan of Hagerstown, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Long, and a brother, Claudius D. Ryan.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Harold P. Atkins will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Helen E. Pittman
HANCOCK - Helen E. Pittman, 66, of North Pennsylvania Avenue, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.
Born June 1, 1933, in Nikep, Md., she was the daughter of the late Fred E. and Daisy Metz Keiffer.
She was a homemaker.
She attended Pleasant Grove Christian Church in Warfordsburg, Pa.
She is survived by her husband, Mac J. Pittman of Hancock; one daughter, Beverly Scriever of Warfordsburg; one son, Lynn R. Pittman of Hancock; one half-sister, Marion Woodsworth of Frederick, Md.; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Christian Church in Warfordsburg. The Rev. Denver A. Plessinger will officiate. Burial will be in Damascus cemetery in Big Cove Tannery, Pa.
The family will receive friends at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church one hour prior to the service. For the convenience of friends the funeral home will be open Sunday from 1 to 9 p.m..
