Joseph C. Filsinger
Joseph Conrad Filsinger, 75, of 20326 Jefferson Blvd., Hagerstown, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, at Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Towson, Md.
Born Nov. 1, 1924, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Conrad Lawrence and Julia Amanda Roe Filsinger.
He served in the U.S. Army Company B 1st Battalion 115th Infantry, attaining the rank of major. He served as platoon leader and executive officer of Company B. He later commanded Company A, 1st Med. Tank Battalion, until it was reorganized as Forward Support Maintenance Company D, 729th Maintenance Battalion in the Maryland Army National Guard.
He was a member of Chewsville Evangelical United Brethren Church and Men's Bible Class. He was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church, where he served as trustee and was a member of various committees.
He was president, chairman of the board, and CEO of Dixie Millwork Co. Inc. and was an active salesman for the company. He served as a member of the board of directors of the Southern Sash and Door Jobbers Association and served on the legislative committee.
He was a member of the National Guard Association of the United States; a life member of the Association of the U.S. Army; a life member of 115th Infantry Regiment; U.S. Armor Association; U.S. Ordnance Association; Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve; a retired life member of the National Guard Association; Post Commander of Lantern Post 729; 29th Division Association; American Legion Post 0010; Cresap's Rifles Post 78; Retired Officers Association; Upper Potomac Chapter Retired Officers Association; The Maryland Society Sons of the American Revolution; BPOE Elks; Pangborn Chapter Fraternal Order of Police; AARP; a life member of the National Rifle Association; North American Rod and Gun Club; National Sash and Door Jobbers Association; Virginia Building Material Dealer's Association; West Virginia Building Material Dealer's Association; Eastern Building Material Dealer's Association; International Order Hoo Hoo; Hagerstown Area Chamber of Commerce; and National Chamber of Commerce.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Velma Naomi Filsinger;
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North in Hagerstown. The Rev. R. Terrence Foor and the Rev. John W. Schildt will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven cemetery in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Glenda L. Ahalt
JEFFERSON, Md. - Glenda Lee "Pixie" Ahalt, 51, of 3641 Jefferson Pike, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore.
Born July 19, 1948, in Frederick, Md., she was the daughter of Evelyn Willard Murray of Jefferson and the late Thomas O. Murray.
She was a Frederick County school bus driver.
She was a member of Jefferson United Church of Christ.
She was a member of Jefferson Volunteer Fire Co. and its Ladies Auxiliary; and Frederick County School Bus Drivers Association.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Ronald William Ahalt Sr.; two sons, Billy Ahalt of Jefferson and R. Mark Ahalt of Middletown; two brothers, Thomas O. Murray Jr. of Knoxville, Md., and John David Murray of Jefferson; and a grandson.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Jefferson United Church of Christ. The Rev. Guy A. Wenck will officiate. Burial will be in Reformed cemetery in Jefferson.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St. in Middletown; and Saturday at 9 a.m. at the church.

Lewis E. Glaser
NEW WINDSOR, Md. - Lewis E. Glaser, 79, of Dennings Road, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, at his home.
Born Nov. 18, 1919, in Hancock, he was the son of the late Lewis and Ruth McFadden Glaser.
He retired in 1982 from Bell System as district marketing manager.
He served in the U.S. Army and Reserves, retiring with the rank of colonel. He was a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.
A World War II veteran, he served in the Southwest Pacific Theater. His decorations included the Legion of Merit and the Distinguished Service Medal.
He was past commander of the 1601st Maneuver Area Command, Fort Meade, Md.; past president of Optimist Club of Catonsville, Md.; member of the Reserve Officers Association; Tonoloway Rod and Gun Club of Hancock; Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion of Hancock; and National Rifle Association.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Hendershot Glaser, whom he married
Jan. 24, 1946; three daughters, Jeanne Hunt of Rockville, Md., Joyce Widmayer of Columbia, Md., and Joan Eells of Coconut Creek, Fla.; a son, Steven Glaser of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; a sister, Ruth Glaser of Maugansville; a brother, Darrow Glaser of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Verne Glaser.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. Chaplain Thomas Wesley will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open from 2 p.m.
Ralph E. Bowers
FAIRPLAY - Ralph Edward "Ebbie" Bowers, 79, of 18016 Lappans Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Oct. 15, 1920, in Washington D.C., he was the son of the late John and Bessie Bowers.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Bowers, in 1996.
He was employed as a security guard by Ames Department Store in New Hampshire.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War, retiring in 1964.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He was a member of Clopper-Michael Post 10 of Boonsboro; and Penacook Memorial Post 3266 VFW of Penacook, N.H.
He is survived by special friend, Erscel Younkins of Fairplay; a daughter, Patsy Hines of Boonsboro; two grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ralph E. Bowers Jr.
There will be no viewing.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mountain View cemetery in Sharpsburg, with military services by American Legion Post 96 of Brunswick, Md. The Rev. Alfred E. Smith will officiate.

Mildred M. Dawson
FREDERICK, Md. - Mildred Marino Dawson, 73, of 6409 Weatherby Court, and formerly of Brunswick, Md., died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Washington Hospital Center in Washington D.C.
Born Nov. 17, 1925, in Lovettsville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles Herbert and Rosa Simpson Painter.
She was a 1943 graduate of Brunswick High School.
She retired from the Brunswick Citizen. She worked at Bon-Ton in Frederick.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church; and United Methodist Women in Brunswick.
She is survived by her husband, Donald W. "Shelly" Dawson Sr.; two daughters, Donna Poffinberger of Jefferson, Md., and Pamela Keeling of Knoxville, Md.; a son, Donald W. Dawson Jr. of Frederick; four sisters, Ellen Cooper of Brunswick, Ann Koontz of Jefferson, Evelyn Ayers of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Maxine Hamilton of Hillsboro, Va.; two brothers, Eugene Painter of Frederick and Renace Painter of Lovettsville; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Gordon; and a brother, William Painter.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Brunswick. The Rev. Clark D. Carr will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery in Lovettsville.
There will be no visitation.
