LOIS SEAL
Lois (Bosley) Seal, 80, Rosedale, died Monday, April 14, 2003, at Franklin Square Hospital, Baltimore.
Born Dec. 27, 1922, in West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Evers O. and Estella (Dilgard) Bosley. She was also preceded in death by one son, Steven E. Seal; and two brothers, Edward O. Bosley and Kenneth V. Bosley.
She was a retired unemployment services supervisor for the state and federal government.
She is survived by her husband, Walter J. Seal; one son, Eric R. Seal, Rosedale; one sister, Shirley Coffman, Abingdon; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
An interment service will be conducted at the Pope Cemetery, Gorman, today, Thursday, April 17, at 4 p.m., with the Rev. T. Patrick Kerr officiating.
Interment will follow.

LOARINE F. WHITTAKER
Loarine Fuller Whittaker, 75, Colonial Beach, Va., died Monday, April 14, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, Va.
Born Oct. 27, 1927, in Grundy, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Ida Meadows Fuller. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Curtis Whittaker; four brothers; and two sisters. She was the last surviving member of the immediate family.
She attended the New Life Ministries Church in Colonial Beach. She was a retired electronics assembler.
Survivors include one daughter, Carlotta Christensen, Ocean Pines; one son, Joseph Curtis Whittaker, Colonial Beach; and three grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Seaver Funeral Home, Princeton.
A service will be conducted on Friday, April 18 at 11 a.m. at the George W. Seaver Chapel of the funeral home, with the Rev. Larry Dryer officiating.
Interment will follow at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton.
JONATHAN J. ECKHART
Dr. Jonathan Jacob Eckhart, 73, Deep Creek Lake, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born Nov. 7, 1929, in Eckhart Mines, he was a son of the late Charles and Helen (Radcliff) Eckhart.
Dr. Eckhart was a 1947 graduate of Allegany High School, he graduated from Lincoln State Chiropractic College in Indianapolis, Ind., and did graduate work at Frostburg State University. He practiced as a chiropractor in the Cumberland area for 50 years and was in partnership with Dr. Audie Klingler at Allegany Chiropractic Center.
He served in the Korean War, 1952-1953, and served with the Maryland National Guard for 35 years retiring as a colonel; he was commander of the Green Beret Special Forces.
He was a member of the Mountain Lodge 99 AF&AM, the Valley of Cumberland Scottish Rite, and the Ali Ghan Shrine Temple. He was a lifetime member of the Cumberland Elks BPO Lodge 114 and served as a director on the foundation board at Frostburg State University.
He is survived by his wife Sue (Bartlett) Eckhart; two sons, J. Brad Eckhart, Orefield, Pa., and Jay L. Eckhart, Newport News, Va.; two daughters, Debra Simpson, Sugarland, Texas, and Penny L. Eckhart, Oakland; three stepchildren, Don R. Sensabaugh Jr. of Charleston, W.Va., David Sensabaugh, Clarysville, and Sheri Sensabaugh-Betz, Clarysville; 17 grandchildren; one brother, H. Edwin Eckhart, Barton; and one sister, Edith Elvee, Clarysville.
Friends were received in the Hafer Funeral Service, LaVale chapel, on Saturday, Aug. 9.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Interment was in Eckhart Cemetery, with military rites accorded by the Combined Veteran Honor Guard.

REV. FENTON H. PLATTER
Rev. Fenton H. Platter, 92, Roanoke, Va., died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, in Roanoke.
Born Feb. 16, 1911, in Jennings, he was a son of the late Henry and Anna (Handwerk) Platter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mable E. (Orendorf) Platter, in 1997.
Rev. Platter served as pastor of the following Churches of the Brethren, beginning in 1947: Frostburg; Front Royal, Va.; Green Hill in Salem, Va. and Cumberland. He also served as interim pastor at various Churches of the Brethren in the Roanoke area following his retirement.
Surviving are his children, Lowell, Roanoke, David, Fincastle, Va., Henry, Eagle Rock, Va., and Ruth Sullivan, Venice, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville.
A service was conducted in the funeral home on Monday, Aug. 11, with the Rev. J. Rogers Fike and the Rev. Timothy Monn officiating.
Interment was in Grantsville Cemetery.
SHIRLEY R. DAVIS
Shirley Rose Davis, 66, Woodland Hills, Calif., died Thursday, July 31, 2003, in the West Hills Medical Center Hospital, after a long illness of emphysema.
Born Jan. 12, 1937, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late William Ewald Ruehl and Pearl Elizabeth (Hansrote) Ruehl.
She was a member of the Methodist Church. She was a homemaker, and retired from Lindberg Nutrition Stores in 1990. She was a Fort Hill High School graduate, class of 1955. She was a long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary and several other organizations.
Surviving are her husband, Howard A. Davis Sr.; three children, Ronald L. Wolfe Jr., Calabasas, Calif., one daughter, Melinda K. (Wolfe) Nelson, Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Howard A. Davis Jr., San Luis Obispo, Calif.; six grandchildren; one brother, William Ruehl, Parkersburg, W.Va.; and one sister, Elizabeth (Ruehl) Friend, Oakland.
A funeral service was conducted Thursday, Aug. 7, at the Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park, Westlake Village, Calif.
ELLEN L. TURNEY
Ellen Lavern Turney, 73, Addison, Pa., died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Aug. 31, 1929, in Rockwood, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Carl Everett and Carrie M. (Camp) Miller.
She attended Wharton-Furnace Church, Elliottsville, Pa.
She is survived by her husband, John W. Turney; two daughters, Linda Watson, Addison, and Rebecca Knisely, West Finley, Pa.; five sisters, Margaret Griffith, Confluence, Pa., Pauline Georg and Dortha Bowser, Accident; Mary Aronhalt, Cumberland, and Anna Carol Wengerd, Murango, Iowa; two brothers, Wilmer C. Miller, Accident, and Paul Miller, Grantsville; two granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.
A private viewing was held at the Humbert Funeral Home, Confluence, where a private service was held Saturday, Aug. 9, for the family, with the Rev. Michael Musser officiating.
Interment was in the Addison Cemetery.
THEODORE REESE
Theodore "Ted" Reese, 72, Corinth, W.Va., died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at his residence.
Born Aug. 21, 1930, in Marion County, W.Va., he was a son of the late Flossie Moore. He was also preceded in death by one brother, John Moore Jr.
He retired from Island Creek Coal Company.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty J. Reese, Corinth; two daughters, Linda Diane Burns and Susan Lantz, both of Terra Alta, W.Va.; three sons, Allen Reese, Terra Alta, Robert Reese, Oakland, and Mike Reese, Kingwood, W.Va.; five sisters, Jean Milliron, Ruby Ammons, and Lula Mae Cutlip, all of Mooresville, W.Va., Sue Delaney, Moorefield, W.Va., and Linda Barr, Daybrook, W.Va.; three brothers, Charles Moore, Core, W.Va., Donald Moore, Wadestown, W.Va., and Billy Moore, Mooresville; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home, Terra Alta, where a service was held Monday, Aug. 11, with the Pastor Bruce Craig officiating.
Interment was in the St. Luke's Cemetery, Mooresville.
DONALD E. METZ
Donald E. "Metzie" Metz, 63, Keyser, W.Va., died Monday, Aug. 11, 2003, at the VA Nursing Home in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born April 21, 1940, in Garrett County, he was a son of Blake E. Metz of Frostburg and the late Vera W. (Butler) Metz.
He was retired as a truck driver with Moran Trucking with 11 years of service. He was Methodist by faith and served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, serving two tours of duty. He was also a member of the Queen's Point Memorial Post 6775, V.F.W., McCoole.
Surviving, in addition to his father, is his wife of 24 years, Carol S. (Sites) Metz; two sons, John R. Metz and Brian K. Metz, both of Stafford, Va.; one daughter, Leigh Ann Metz, at home; three sisters, Janice Trenum and Sharon Haines, both of Rawlings, and Ladona Dickel, Frostburg; and two grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Thursday, Aug. 14, from 6 to 9 p.m.
A service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 2 p.m., with Pastor Lloyd Heatwole officiating.
Queen's Point Memorial Post 6775, V.F.W. will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
FRANCIS W. SANDERS
Mr. Francis Whalen Sanders, 93, Aiken, S.C., died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, at Mattie C. Hall Health Care Center. Services will be held in Salem, W.Va., at a later date.
Mr. Sanders was born in Oakland. He was the owner of a trucking business and a member of the Church of God. He was also a member of the Woodmen of the World and the Moose Lodge.
Mr. Sanders is survived by one son, William Francis Sanders, Aiken; four grandchildren, Julie Honza, Laurie Yobbi, Tracy Larkin, and Kimberly Carmack; and one sister, Helen Fike, Oakland.

THELMA R. FRIEND
Thelma Ruth Friend, 89, Mtn. Lake Park, formerly of Friendsville, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born Dec. 24, 1913, in Uniontown, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Herman Leslie and Grace Stella (Chidester) Friend. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Woodrow Friend, Dec. 8, 1989.
She was a homemaker and a member of Mtn. Dale Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are one son, Odis Friend, Mtn. Lake Park; three daughters, Lucille Harford, Reading. Pa., Shirley Stewart, Ephrata, Pa., and Joyce Shober, New Freedom, Pa.; one sister, Norma Sparber, Bruceton Mills, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Friendsville, where a service was held on Saturday, Oct. 4, with Rev. Gale Hixon officiating.
Interment was in the Blooming Rose Cemetery.
THOMAS A. CODDINGTON
Thomas A. Coddington, 39, Ellicott City, formerly of Oakland, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at the St. Agnes Hospital, Baltimore.
Born May 9, 1964, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Lowell T. and Cheryl S. (Kisner) Coddington, Oakland.
He was a graduate of Southern High School, class of 1982. He graduated from the Garrett Community College, McHenry, and Frostburg State College, Frostburg. He also attended the University of Maryland. He was employed by Syscom Services, Silver Spring, for 13 years.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Margaret H. (Galla-gher) Coddington, Ellicott City; and one brother, Ronald L. Coddington, Wexford, Pa.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, across from Wal-Mart, along U.S. Route 219.
A service was conducted at the funeral home on Sunday, Oct. 5, with Pastor Ben Boggess and Burton Rexrode officiating.
Interment was in the Deer Park Cemetery, Deer Park.

LEONA S. PENNINGTON
Leona S. Pennington, 101, Mount Storm, W.Va., died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Nov. 29, 1901, in Stringtown, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late James and Melinda (Carr) Wolford. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Herman C. Pennington; one daughter, Mildred P. Kuhn; 13 brothers and sisters; and one grandson.
She was a member of the Mount Storm United Methodist Church. For many years she was a cook at the Mount Storm Elementary School.
She is survived by one sister, Arizona Lawrence, Dryfork, W.Va.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, across from Wal-Mart along U.S. Route 219.
A service was held at the Mount Storm United Methodist Church on Monday, Oct. 6, with the Rev. Clifford Schell and the Rev. Loren Metzner officiating.
Interment was in the Mount Storm Cemetery. Mount Storm.

JAMES H. GLOTFELTY
James Harold Glotfelty, 72, Accident, died Saturday, October 4, 2003, at his home.
Born Jan. 21, 1931, in Accident, he was the son of the late Elwood and Beatrice (Resh) Glotfelty. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Klotz and Mary Edith Harman.
Mr. Glotfelty was a farmer. He raised turkeys in the family business, was employed at Friend's Stock Yards at Grantsville, Accident and Waynesburg, Pa., and was active until recently. He was recognized a number of times through 4-H for his contributions and assisted with 4-H livestock auctions at the Garrett County Fair for many years. He was Lutheran by faith and a regular church attendant.
He is survived by his wife, Donna (Reckner) Glotfelty; one son, Thomas Glotfelty, Terra Alta, W.Va.; three daughters, Linda Oester and husband William, Salisbury, Pa., Karmen Carey and husband Julius, Frostburg, and Lisa Platter and husband Dwaine, Smithsburg; three sisters, Harriett Buckel, Accident, Alberta Nolder and husband Paul, Baltimore, and Bernadette Henson, St. Albans, W.Va.; his mother-in-law, Ida Reckner, Accident; seven grandchildren, Sheli Gray and husband, Jeff, Ashburn, Va., Chris Carey and wife Janelle, and Anthony Carey and wife, Mandy, all of Frostburg, Taylor Glotfelty, West Virginia University, Morgantown, W.Va., Tim Glotfelty, McHenry, and Adam and Amanda Platter, Smithsburg; and four great- granddaughters, Ashlin and Abigail Gray, and Allison and Laci Carey.

A service was conducted at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Bittinger, on Wednesday, Oct. 8, with Pastor Patricia Pittsnogle officiating.
Interment was in Bittinger Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Roy Stanton, Joe Friend Jr., Bill Friend, Gene Brenneman, Jack Beitzel, and Delmar Yoder. Honorary pallbearers were grandsons Jeff Gray, Chris Carey, Tony Carey, Taylor Glotfelty, Tim Glotfelty, and Adam Platter.
