Vera G. Moats
Vera Grace Moats, 89, of 17222 Amber Drive, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born July 25, 1910, in Chewsville, she was the daughter of the late Otha Ray and Flora Ellen Kuhn Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Roy Moats, in 1984.
She was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church in Williamsport.
She is survived by two daughters, Lorraine L. Bumbaugh of Mont Alto, Pa., and Janice E. Dye of Dunnellon, Fla.; two sisters, Louella Shoop of Quincy, Pa., and Margaret Ferguson of Smithsburg; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Dolores Virginia Strausner; four sisters; one step-sister and one granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. James E. Swecker will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Harry V. Stipe Sr.
DAMASCUS, Md. - Harry V. Stipe Sr., 82, of Damascus, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at his home.
Born July 25, 1917, in Wadesville, Va., he was the son of the late Henry Francis and Anna Blanche Fox Stipe.
He earned a double degree of physical education and history from Shepherd College in 1939, where he was a member of Theta Sigma Chi fraternity. He then earned a masters degree in physical education from University of West Virginia and in 1993 he was inducted into the Shepherd College Athletic Hall of Fame.
He spent 2 years as a principal in Virginia. He then took a teaching job at Damascus High School where he spent 33 years as a teacher, coach and principal before retiring in 1974.
As a basketball coach, he led the high school team to its only state championship win in 1949. The Harry V. Stipe Scholar Athlete Award at Damascus High School is named in his honor. He was also one of the first certified driver's education teachers in the state.
He was a member of Damascus United Methodist Church.
He was involved in numerous civic activities. During World War II he served as a Minuteman in the Damascus Civil Air Defense Patrol. He was also a founding member of the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department and a charter member and former secretary of Damascus Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Eleanor Oliver Stipe; one daughter, Harriet Stipe Bush of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one son, George O. Stipe of Woodsboro, Md.; one sister, Elizabeth Neel of Martinsburg, W.Va.; three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Harry V. Stipe Jr. and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Damascus United Methodist Church, 9700 New Church St., Damascus. The Rev. Walter Edmonds and the Rev. Harry Cole will officiate. Burial will be in Damascus Methodist Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Olin L. Molesworth, P.A., Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus.

Loretta S. Mohler
FREDERICK, Md. - Loretta Sterling Mohler, 85, of Frederick, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born March 13, 1914, in Point of Rocks, Md., she was the daughter of the late Harry F. and Minnie F. McGaha Sterling.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Thomas G. Mohler, in 1997.
She was a homemaker.
She was a charter member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Carole M. Winpigler of Frederick and Susan E. Grove of Silver Spring, Md.; one son, Thomas G. Mohler Jr., of Frederick; two brothers, Carl Sterling and Paul H. Sterling, both of Silver Spring; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one aunt; many nieces and nephews and a special friend, John Stream of Point of Rocks.
She was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, Ashley Michele Grove; two sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The Rev. Ronald E. Reeves will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Edwin B. Glesner Sr.
WILLIAMSPORT - Edwin B. Glesner Sr., 76, of 16718 Virginia Ave., died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 25, 1923, in Maugansville, he was the son of the late Samuel R. and Mary Zinkand Glesner.
He was owner and operator of Hagerstown Produce Company.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II in Europe. He received the Purple Heart.
He was a member of Salem Reformed Church.
He was a member of Morris Frock Post 42, American Legion, V.F.W. Post 1936 and Redman Tribe 84 of Williamsport.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Helen L. Burger Glesner; two daughters, Pamela S. Jordan and Julie A. Boyer, both of Williamsport; one son, Edwin B. Glesner Jr., of Williamsport; one sister, JoAnn Pickett of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Eldon Glesner.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Daniel Jordan will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by Morris Frock Post 42.
Visitation will be this evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

Delores A. Binkley
MAUGANSVILLE, Md. - Delores Arlene Binkley, 68, of 14044 Village Mill Drive, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Towson, Md.
Born Aug. 2, 1931, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Frank Roger and Rosa Mae Wilson Hamby.
She previously was employed by Rohr Industries and Fairchild Aircraft.
She attended St. James Brethren Church.
She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 89 of Hagerstown.
She is survived by three daughters, Patti L. Mark of Sharpsburg, and Penny S. Bender and Denise L. Binkley, both of Williamsport; a son, Darryl L. Binkley of Boonsboro; three sisters, Lorena Simpson of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Betty Reeder and Ruby Branch, both of Boonsboro; a brother, Frank Hamby of Virginia; and six grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Brian H. Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
