Anna H. Risser
MAUGANSVILLE - Anna H. Risser, 87, of 13436 Maugansville Road, died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at Mennonite Home, Maugansville.
Born Sept. 21, 1912, near Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Jacob H. and Anna Horst Risser.
She was a homemaker and did housekeeping in the community area for 20 years.
She was a member of Reiff Mennonite Church, Hagerstown.
She is survived by three sisters, Fannie H. Diller of Greencastle, Pa., Rhoda H. Hege of Maugansville and Mary H. Martin of Hagerstown; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Reiff Mennonite Church, 17433 Reiff Church Road, Hagerstown. The Reiff Ministry will officiate. Burial will be in Reiff Church Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 and Thursday one hour prior to the time of the service at the church.

Helen K. Bower
WILLIAMSPORT - Helen K. Bower, 85, of 16505 Virginia Ave., died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at Homewood Retirement Center.
Born March 4, 1914, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late John G. and Helen K. Boyle Bower.
She was a 1939 graduate of the Institute for Foreigns of the University of Berlin, Germany. Previously she graduated from Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School and Junior College in Washington, D.C.
She was employed for Elmer Funkhouser Interest and Har Tru Corp., as a secretary before retiring.
She was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was a member of Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a choir member for many years.
She is survived by many cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. George Limmer will be celebrant. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m.

Carolene E. Ayres
KNOXVILLE - Carolene Elizabeth Ayres, 85, of 1138 Rosemont Drive, died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at her daughter's residence in Mount Airy, Md.
Born Feb. 23, 1914, in Knoxville, she was the daughter of the late Robert Ashby and Vaughnetta Cooper Webber.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Lewis Ayres, in 1994.
She retired from Brunswick High School as a cook.
She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Brunswick.
She is survived by one daughter, Beverly L. Dixon of Mount Airy; two sisters, Evelyn Darr of Kabletown, W.Va. and Ramona Castle of Knoxville; four grandchildren; one step-grandson; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Arden Webber, Paul Webber and Alfred Webber.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, Brunswick. The Rev. Stephen A. Swift will officiate. Burial will be in Reformed Cemetery, Knoxville.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick.

Herbert Gay
DARGAN, Md. - Herbert "Turtle" Gay, 63, of Dargan, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
Born Dec. 27, 1935, in Dargan, he was the son of the late Marvin Daniel and Nina McGown Gay.
He was a retired construction worker.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He is survived by one sister, Millie Ault of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; three brothers, Page Gay and Orvel Gay, both of Dargan and Merle Gay of Hagerstown; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Jane Gay and two brothers, Raymond S. Gay and Daniel L. Gay.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Samples Manor Cemetery, Samples Manor, Md. The Rev. Chester Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Samples Manor Cemetery, Samples Manor.
There will be no visitation.

Madeline U. Nutter
WILLIAMSPORT - Madeline Uloice Nutter, 79, of 14 D Oake Tree Lane, died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 2, 1920, in Martinsburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles Lemon and Ethel Stuart Butts.
She was a member of Evangel Baptist Church, Broadfording Road.
She was a member of Southside Bowling League and was a lifetime Little League mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, Willam F. Nutter; three daughters, Wilma Jean Beauchamp of Clear Spring, Beverly Ann Anderson and Linda Lorrine Richesson, both of Hagerstown; two sons, William Ronald Nutter of Hagerstown and Timothy Charles Nutter of Boonsboro; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and a dear friend, Lillian Wier.
She was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Ernest Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
Paul M. Catherman
Paul M. Catherman, 74, of Hagerstown, died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at his home in Sebastian, Fla.
Born July 18, 1925, in Frostburg, Md., he was the son of the late Paul M. and Frances D. Shope Catherman.
He was last employed by Dewberry and Davis Engineering Co., Washington, D.C., as a consultant engineer. Prior to that he had retired from Maryland State Highway Administration as a highway engineer 4. He was also a certified watchmaker, restoring old American watches.
He was retired from the Navy and Naval Reserve as a chief warrant officer after more than 42 years of service. He served in the Pacific during World War II and in the Korean War.
He was a lifetime member of Church of Christ in Cumberland and Hagerstown.
He was a genealogist for C/Katherman Reunion Association and had published two family genealogy books.
He is survived by his wife, Gean Steele Catherman; one daughter, Paulette Teich of Bensalem, Pa.; two sons, Mark Catherman of Hagerstown and Tim Catherman of Chesterfield, Va.; two sisters, Esther Kinsley and Beulah Jenkins, both of Frostburg; one brother, Floyd Catherman of Frostburg; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Gussie Miller and Alma Weller; three brothers, Clair Catherman, Merlin Catherman and Linday Catherman; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Richard McGough will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
