Garland W. Harmon
JEFFERSON, Md. - Garland Wayne Harmon, 80, of 3884 Shadywood Drive, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.
Born Sept. 12, 1919, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Jacob Frank and Etta Leah Deener Harmon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Stream Harmon, in 1988.
He was retired from the Watergate, Washington, D.C., as a plumber.
He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1582, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1136 and Steadman-Keenan Post 96 of the American Legion, all in Brunswick, Md.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II.
He is survived by two sons, Gary W. Harmon of Keedysville and Greg A. Harmon of Melbourne, Fla.; three grandchildren, Tammy Erwin of Mesa, Ariz., Jake Harmon of Keedysville, Ian Harmon of Melbourne and a special friend, Connie Turner of Jefferson.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence Harmon.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick. The Rev. Bruce A. Gephart will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Lovettsville, Va.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. For the convenience of friends the funeral home will be open Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Thomas E. Butts
Thomas E. Butts, 70, of 11900 Harp Road, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 22, 1929, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Charles L. ands Ethel D. Stuart Butts.
He was an active participant at the Washington County Human Development Council since 1939.
He was a member of Virginia Avenue Baptist Church.
He is survived by one sister, Madeline Nutter, of Hagerstown.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Priscilla Milburn, Elizabeth Elkins and Eleanor Kling.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at noon at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Richard A. Gross will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Helen K. Bowers
WILLIAMSPORT - Helen K. Bowers, 85, of 16505 Virginia Ave., died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at Homewood Retirement Center.
Born March 4, 1914, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late John G. and Helen K. Boyle Bower.
She was a 1939 graduate of the Institute for Foreigns of the University of Berlin, Germany. Previously she graduated from Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School and Junior College in Washington, D.C.
She was employed for Elmer Funkhouser Interest and Har Tru Corp., as a secretary before retiring, after 39 years.
She was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was a member of Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a choir member for many years.
She is survived by many cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. George Limmer will be celebrant. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m.
John C. Corbett
John Clarence Corbett, 64, of 604 Guilford Ave., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999 at his home.
Born Nov. 23, 1934 in Hagerstown, he was the son of Evelyn Kershner Corbett of Hagerstown and the late George T. Corbett.
He was a 1952 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
He served on the City Planning Commission from 1991 to his retirement in June, 1999. He was co-owner of Corbett Brothers Plumbing and Heating from 1963 to 1983. He served as City Councilman of Hagerstown from 1969 to 1977 and he also served on the Board of Water Commission, Board of Technical Appeals, and was also employed as a City Housing Inspector.
He was a member of Calvary Grace Brethren Church in Hagerstown.
He was a member of Redmen of Williamsport, Eagles Inc., of Waynesboro, Pa., Funkstown Moose Lodge 2435, Hagerstown Quarter Midget Association and a 25 year member of the Alsatia Club.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Marquerite L. Kelso Corbett; one daughter, Susan Saunders of Hagerstown; one step-daughter, Robin Stahley of Hagerstown; one step-son, Russell Neff III of Hagerstown; one brother, Larry Corbett of Hagerstown; one granddaughter; three step-grandchildren; and a number of aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Boulevard North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Douglas A. Courtner and the Rev. J. Norman Mayer will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Earl L. Greene Jr.
Earl Louis Greene Jr., 76, of 729 Maryland Ave., Hagerstown, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at Clearview Nursing Home.
Born Jan. 19, 1923, in New Windsor, Md., he was the son of the late Earl Lewis and Susan Strine Greene.
He retired from Southern States.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 10 in Boonsboro; Elks Lodge No. 378 VFW No. 1936; and North American Rod and Gun Club.
He is survived by his wife, June A. Fowler Greene; a daughter, Gail T. Starliper of Hagerstown; a son, Gary E. Greene of Hagerstown; a sister, Charlotte Marshall of Pennsylvania; two brothers, Charles Greene and Richard Greene, both of New Windsor; a grandson; and a great-grandson.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. J. Norman Mayer will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Frances E. Richards
BALTIMORE - Frances E. "Fran" Richards, 49, of Baltimore, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at her home.
Born in Martinsburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of Carlton Edwards and Lovey Burger of Martinsburg.
She was a member of Hampden Baptist Church in Baltimore.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Roger Richards; stepfather, Ray Burger; three sons, Bobby Keller, Mike Keller and Tony Milburn; a sister, Angie Speaker; four brothers, Mike Edwards, Sam Burger, Ben Burger and Joe Burger; and three grandchildren.
A service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Burgee-Henss-Seitz Funeral Home, 3631 Falls Road, Baltimore. The Rev. Keller will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery in Baltimore.
The family will receive friends today and Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Marlin E. Barnhart
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Marlin Edward "Eddie" Barnhart, 38, of West Palm Beach, died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999.
Born Oct. 29, 1960, in Homestead, Fla. he was the son of the late Lola Faye Barnhart of Tennessee and formerly of Hagerstown and Marlin R. Barnhart of Hagerstown.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Riser Barnhart, whom he married
Sept. 19, 1992; his stepmother, Helen Barnhart of Hagerstown; a sister, Anita Delauney of Hagerstown; a niece; a nephew; step-grandfather, Wayne Arvin of Williamsport; aunts; and uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
