PAUL B. ORENDORF
Paul Bowen Orendorf, 86, LaVale, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at his residence.
Born Oct. 21, 1916, in Jennings, he was a son of the late Simon and Anna (Beachy) Orendorf.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Cumberland. A retired salesman, he was most recently employed by Economy Wholesale Grocery. He was a member of Woodman of the World, Camp 6, Cumberland, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby J. (Buckel) Orendorf; two sons, Gary L. Orendorf, Gaithersburg, and Ronald P. Orendorf, Hightstown, N.J.; one sister, Ruth Spitzer, Harrisonburg, Va.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was conducted at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Cumberland, on Tuesday, Oct. 7, with Pastor John Duffus officiating.
Interment was in Bittinger Cemetery, Bittinger.
Arrangements were handled by the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville.

DONNIE E. FRIEND
Donnie Edward Friend, 71, Fairmont, W.Va., formerly of Charleston, W.Va., died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born April 20, 1932, in Turner-Douglas, W.Va., he was a son of the late Brunner Friend and Edith Sines Friend. He was also preceded in death by his second wife, Phyllis Cornell Friend; and six brothers and sisters, Clarence Friend, Delbert Friend, Ruby Fike, Dorothy Matthews, Stanley Friend, and Garland Friend.
He retired from McCown Meat Company, Charleston, where he held several positions. He was a member of the Northside Church of the Nazarene in Charleston, and attended the Faith Christian Fellowship Church in Morgantown.
He was a member of the Senior Choir in Fairmont, and was active with the Marion County Senior Citizens and the Dunbar Senior Citizens.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Carney Friend; three sons, Bobby Joe Harlan, Georgia, Blake Edward Friend, Charleston, and Charles Green, Charleston; four daughters, Penny Friend, Oakland, Janie Sines, Terra Alta, W.Va., Daisy Murray, Oakland, and Willa Lynn Goins, Charleston; two stepsons, Wayne Carney, Terra Alta, and Bill Case, Kingwood, W.Va.; one sister, Alice Moats, Terra Alta; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, Fairmont, and at the Northside Church of the Nazarene, where a service was held on Sunday, Oct. 5, with the Rev. Jerry Cline officiating.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park in South Charleston.
ROY J. YODER
Roy J. Yoder, 90, Grantsville, died Sunday, October 5, 2003, at his residence.
Born Oct. 8, 1912, in Grantsville, he was a son of the late John D. and Sadie (Beachy) Yoder. He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Lydia (Tice) Yoder; his first wife, Fannie (Yoder) Yoder, Oct. 13, 1974; and one brother, Cloyd J. Yoder.
He was a farmer and a member of Maple Glen Mennonite Church, Grantsville.
He is survived by his wife, Esther (Miller) Yoder; three sons, Edgar Yoder, Grantsville, Delmar Yoder, Accident, and Donald Yoder, Angola, Ind.; six brothers, Olen J. Yoder and Marvin J. Yoder, both of Grantsville, Raymond J. Yoder, Salisbury, Pa., Monroe J. Yoder, Bronx, N.Y., John Junior Yoder, Orrville, Ohio, and Daniel J. Yoder, Owings Mills; four sisters, Iva Lantz, Lititz, Pa., Verda Mast, Salisbury, Pa., Lois Stutzman, Wooster, Ohio, and Dorothy Yoder, Grantsville; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville.
A service was conducted today, Thursday, Oct. 9, at Maple Glen Mennonite Church, with the Rev. Philip Moser and Rev. Robert Yoder officiating.
Interment was in the Maple Glen Cemetery.

J. WILLIAM OWENS
J. William Owens, 79, Cumberland, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born July 25, 1924, in Oakland, he was the son of the late Joseph William and Pearl (Grindle) Owens. He was also preceded in death by his wife, June (Spear) Owens.
He was a retired supervisor for the Maryland Department of Employment Security. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Western Maryland Democratic Club, and AARP.
He is survived by one daughter, Christy L. Montgomery, Accident; and one grandson.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville.
A service was conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday, Oct. 8, with the Rev. Barry Maust officiating.
Interment was in the Oakland Cemetery.

HERMAN H. STEIDING SR.
Herman H. Steiding Sr., 91, Swanton, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at his home.
Born Nov. 13, 1911, in Swanton, he was the son of the late Herman Steiding and Sue (Beckman) Steiding. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Freeda (Howell) Steiding; and one daughter.
He was a retired dairy farmer.
He is survived by one son, Herman H. Steiding Jr., Aurora, W.Va.; two daughters, Bonnie J. Sunny, Swanton, and Martha S. Slawter, Aurora; 11 grandchildren; numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland.
A service was conducted at the funeral home today, Thursday, Oct. 9, with the Rev. Father Donald Parson officiating.
Interment was in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.

HAROLD E. DILLSWORTH SR.
Harold E. Dillsworth Sr., 63, Eglon, W.Va., formerly of Oakland, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at his home.
Born April 4, 1941, in Crellin, he was a son of the late Elmer H. and Pearl (Hixenbaugh) Dillsworth.
He was a retired mechanic for the Manheim Stone Quarry and was a self-employed timberman.
He is survived by two daughters, Jenny L. Johnson, Parsons, W.Va., and Dawn R. Gauthier, Hurst, Texas; four sons, Harold E. Dillsworth Jr., Red House, Steven D. Dillsworth, Aurora, W.Va., Shawn J. Dillsworth, Terra Alta, W.Va., and James A. Dillsworth, Oakland; one sister, Josephine Resh, Accident; two brothers, Howard F. Dillsworth and Michael S. Dillsworth, both of Oakland; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Friends will be received at the temporary home of the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, across from Wal-Mart along U.S. Route 219, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 9.
A service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Donald Matthews officiating.
Interment will be in the Underwood Cemetery, Oakland.
ELLAREE L. WHEELER
Ellaree L. Wheeler, 68, Terra Alta, W.Va., died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Feb. 14, 1935, in Brandonville, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Alden B. "Jack" and Jessie M. Moyers Copeman.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Terra Alta.
She is survived by her husband, James E. Wheeler, Alpine Lake; one daughter, Cindee Lou Wheeler, Alpine Lake; one brother, Edwin Copeman, Baltimore; and two sisters, Rosetta Rodeheaver, Oakland, and Rita Buxton, Bel Air.
Friends were received at the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home, Terra Alta.

BURDETTE L. BLAKE
Burdette "Abe" Leroy Blake, 82, Accident, died Jan. 21, 2004, at the Goodwill Mennonite Nursing Home, Grantsville.
Born Feb. 17, 1921, in Boynton, Pa., he was the son of the late Issac Blake and Goldie (Kendall) Blake. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara (Pugh) Lindeman Blake, June 18, 1995.
He was a member of the International Union of Operator Engineers and a member of the Hostetler Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are three sisters, Evelyn Mosser, Accident, Edna Paul, Boynton, and Shirley Baer, Baltimore; and numerous stepchildren.
A service was conducted at the M. Ray Leckemby Funeral Home, Meyersdale, Pa., on Friday, Jan. 23, with Doug Diamond officiating.
Interment was in the Union Cemetery, Meyersdale.
H. ROBERT JAMISON
H. Robert Jamison, 78, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Deep Creek, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at his home in Pittsburgh.
Born Nov. 10, 1925, in Sharon, Pa., he was the son of the late Robert J. and Sophia (Oberndorfor) Jamison. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou (Tassone) Jamison.
He was a Navy veteran, having served during World War II. He was a prominent homebuilder and developer in the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh. He was also a partner in Gibson/Jamison Homes and owner of Jamison Construction. He built such communities as Eastmont, University Park, and Holiday Park during the 1950s and 1960s. As owner of Howard Development he developed and built homes in Washington Acres. He was a part-time resident of Deep Creek Lake for 45 years.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Eileen (Watson) Jamison; one daughter, Peggy Jamison, Oakland; one son, J.R. Jamison, Penn Township, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Wolfevon Geis Funeral Home, Export, Pa.
Additional visitation with the family was held Saturday, Jan. 24, at the social hall of the Deep Creek Baptist Church, where a service was held.
Interment was in Eckhart Cemetery, Eckhart.

DAVID E. KIRK
David "Dee" Edison Kirk, 79, Cumberland, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at his residence.
Born June 27, 1924, in Barton, he was a son of the late John Kirk Sr. and Maude C. (Russell) Kirk. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Joyce May (Dick) Kirk, on June 30, 1985; four brothers, John Kirk Jr., James Francis Kirk, William Russell Kirk, and Richard Brett; and one sister, Christina Luppinacci.
He graduated from Barton High School in 1942. He worked for the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company from 1942 to 1947. He and his parents operated a confectionary store in Barton from 1947 through 1954. He then worked for Allegany County as a time keeper in the roads department, a transfer clerk, and tax assessor until 1981. He had an income tax return business from 1981 to 1986. He was then employed by the Cumberland Fair Association as manager of the Cumberland Fairgrounds until 2001.
He was a member of St. Matthew's United Church of Christ; Barton Alumni Association, for which he served as president; Barton Hose Company for 10 years; Bowling Green Volunteer Fire Company for 46 years, serving as treasurer for 19 years; Allegany-Garrett Counties Firemen's Association, serving as president from 1954 to 1955 and was the founder of its newsletter; and president of the Maryland State Firemen's Association, 1963 to 1964, and served as treasurer for many years.
He was also a past president of the CCSAC Credit Union, where he was currently serving as a director, and past president of the Cumberland Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include his brother, Robert Harvey Kirk, LaVale; three sisters, Jeannette Jarrett, Thomasville, Ga., Lola Green, St. Augustine, Fla., and Mildred "Midge" Martin, Port Orange, Fla.
Friends were received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Cumberland.
Bowling Green Volunteer Fire Company conducted a memorial service at the funeral home.
The funeral service was held at the funeral home on Sunday, Jan. 25, with the Rev. William Hunt officiating.
Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park.

KENNETH R. MURPHY
Kenneth Russell Murphy, 81, Frostburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, in Frostburg Village of Allegany County.
Born in Garrett County, he was a son of the late Marion and Clara (Min-nick) Murphy. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Aldridge and Betty Ann Murphy.
A veteran of World War II, he was a member of Farrady Post 24, American Legion, and Old Rail Post Veterans of Foreign Wars. He retired from Morton Chevrolet, Frostburg.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Evelyn (Robertson) Murphy; one son, Steven K. Murphy, Mount Savage; two daughters, Debi Scavatto, Erlanger, Ky., and Keni Ann Watkins, Frostburg; one sister, Dorothy Gilbert, Hudson, Fla.; one brother, William Murphy, Woodbridge, Va.; and three grandchildren.
At his request, his body was donated to the Anatomy Board of Maryland.
There was no viewing.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

LEWIS E. GITTERE
Lewis Edward Gittere, 83, Friendsville, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Jan. 21, 1921, in Baltimore, he was a son of the late William Leon and Mary Catherine (Kindig) Gittere. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ireta V. (Friend) Gittere, Feb. 27, 1999; and two brothers, Bernard Gittere and Melvin Gittere.
He was a welder for Fruehauf Trailer, a millwright for the local in Cumberland, and a mechanic for Interstate Lumber Company. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and member of the Merchant Marines and Keeler Glade Church of God.
He is survived by two sons, Edward L. Gittere, LaGrangeville, N.Y., and Roger L. Gittere, Friendsville; one daughter, Peggy J. Frazee, Friendsville; two brothers, William D. "Buddy" Gittere and Clarence E. "Jackie" Gittere, both of Reisterstown; two sisters, Elizabeth F. Brown, Westminster, and Dorothy L. Fritz, Reisterstown; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Interment was in the Friend Cemetery.
