BOONSBORO - Carolyn Ann Spielman Ford, 56, of 6221 Clevelandtown Road, died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at her home.
Born Oct. 29, 1942, in Funkstown, she was the daughter of Helen K. Rosenberg Spielman of Funkstown and the late Harry H. Spielman Sr.
She was a 1960 graduate of South Hagerstown High School.
She was an administrative clerk at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro for 18 years.
She was a member of Benevola United Methodist Church near Boonsboro.
She was secretary and activities director for Blue and Grey Model T Club of America and a member of Mason-Dixon Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 37 years, Ronald Lee Ford; a daughter, Lori Royce of Smithsburg; two sisters, Yvonne Bussard of Funkstown and Norman Sprecher of Hagerstown; two brothers, Franklin R. Spielman of Boonsboro and Nevin Spielman of Funkstown; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Harry H. Spielman.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Helen S. Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Philip I. Winters
BRADDOCK HEIGHTS, Md. - Philip Ian Winters, 19, of 4609 Deer Spring Road, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, in Middletown, Md., as the result of an accident.
Born July 3, 1980, in Frederick, Md., he was the son of John E. and Mary Norman Winters of Braddock Heights.
He was a sophomore at Towson University, Towson, Md.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Community, Middletown.
He was active in Little League and Babe Ruth League baseball.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Joanna Marie Winters of Austin, Texas; a brother, Michael Brendan Winters of Frederick; two nephews; aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Community, 7132 Burkittsville Road, Middletown. The Rev. John C. Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Christ Reformed Church Cemetery, Middletown.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Foundation of Frederick County Inc., 6 East St., Frederick, MD 21701, for the establishment of a scholarship for graduates of Middletown High School.
Sherley M. Leatherman
SHARPSBURG - Sherley Mae Leatherman, 66, of 129 E. Main St., died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at her home.
Born Nov. 29, 1932, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Dora Mae Martz Bonebrake of Hagerstown and the late Richard R. Bonebrake.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard T. Leatherman Sr.
She was a 1952 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
She was previously employed at Family Dollar, People's Drug Store and C&P Telephone Co.
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Sharpsburg.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by one son, Robert Harshman Jr. of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three stepsons, Rodney E. Leatherman of Clear Spring, Richard T. Leatherman Jr. of Portland, Ore., and Randal A. Leatherman of Fairplay; one brother, Dennis Bonebrake of Hagerstown; seven step-grandchildren; one niece; one nephew; and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. John D. Alfriend will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Frances E. Barthalow
HANCOCK - Frances E. "Booty" Barthalow, 64, of Pennsylvania Avenue, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, at her daughter's home in Boonsboro.
Born Jan. 9, 1935, in Great Cacapon, W.Va., she was the daughter of Elsie May Unger Powell of Hagerstown and the late Boyce Nichelson Powell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Earl Barthalow, in 1991.
She was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Auxiliary Post 1483, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and McConnellsburg Post 561 American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her companion, Frederick Monroe LaNeave of Hancock; four daughters, Beverly Garland Fox of Greencastle, Pa., Brenda Garland Bishop of Boonsboro, Peggy Garland Twigg of Keyser, W.Va., and Frances Poorbaugh Cravets of Columbia, S.C.; two sisters, Marlene Vlasach of McKees Rock, Pa., and Joan McCusker of Clear Spring; one brother, Boyce Powell of Clear Spring; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Susan Powell, and one brother, Gary Powell.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. Jeff Hawbaker will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Nebo Cemetery, Great Cacapon.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home, which will be open at 3 p.m.
Mildred I. Hoffman
Mildred I. Repp Hoffman, 73, of Dual Highway, Hagerstown, died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Dec. 22, 1925, in Indian Springs, Md., she was the daughter of the late Ernest F. and Sally Catherine Clopper Mills.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, James A. Repp, in 1959; and her second husband, Donald Hoffman, in 1984.
She was employed for Fairchild Aircraft, Hagerstown, for 30 years.
She is survived by three sisters, Edna D. Keplinger and Martha Scott, both of Hagerstown, and Anna L. Stouffer of Boonsboro; six brothers, Kenneth F. Mills and John E. Mills, both of Clear Spring, Lewis H. Mills, Robert L. Mills and Theodore M. Mills, all of Big Pool, and Marvin G. Mills of Hagerstown; and her companion, Charles E. Dimon.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence L. Mills and Lloyd T. Mills.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Blair Valley Cemetery, Clear Spring. The Rev. Jonathan D. Laye will officiate.
There will be no viewing.
Arrangements are by Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.
Ellsworth Biser Sr.
Ellsworth "Jim" Biser Sr., 69, of 10623 Crystal Falls Drive, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at his home.
Born Feb. 19, 1930, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Charles L. and Mary V. LaPole Biser.
He was self-employed in the home improvement business.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Wilda M. "Pat" Hartle Biser; four daughters, Patty Cornett of Sugar Grove, Va., Peggy Spangler of Reading, Pa., Becky Bare of Fairplay and Sharon Green of Hedgesville, W.Va.; three sons, Jimmy Biser Jr. of Myersville, Md., Buddy Biser of Hagerstown and Butch Biser of Sharpsburg; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Biser; one sister, Effie Bowers; and three brothers, Charles Biser, Austin Biser Sr. and John Biser.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. Elder Dean Negri and the Rev. George Snyder will officiate. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
